“Superior location, and a good standard quality hotel ...”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

Hotel is well located with good access to public transit and sightseeing transportation. An older hotel, but lobby and restaurant areas have been updated. Rooms are clean, standard sized, and reasonably appointed. Wi-Fi and air conditioning both work well. Staff is pleasant, but not well versed in surroundings ( many are not UK nationals.) Lifts are dated, and function marginally. Self serve buffet breakfast was good. Good restaurant options in immediate area. A 45 minute taxi ride from LHR.

Great location, handy for the tube and many London attractions. This is a standard Mercure hotel, however the staff don't speak good English and can't explain things and the breakfast buffet was a mess and certainly not worth the price £13.95 I think it was - food was dried up and spilt on the floor and buffet counter. Not what you'd expect from a 4 * hotel

Green Features: Poor - we hung the towels so they would not be changed, but they were

We have stayed here several times, as past reports will indicate. It looks not that attractive from the outside, but the lobby, reception and bar area have all been attractively modernised. We enjoyed yesterday the house Merlot in the bar, and the plates of cookies laid out for sampling! The checkin system using tablets is a bit laborious but it goes to convey a more "with it" image.
Our room 420 looked like others we have occupied there. Large bed, comfortable. Quite small. Bathroom still had a bath-tub though we would have preferred a walk in shower at our ages.
Location on the South Bank of the Thames means prices are usually lower than on the north side, but London Bridge and Southwark stations are about 10 mins walk in opposite directions from the hotel

Room Tip: All much the same, I would say from previous visits

Stayed here several times in the past with my wife when visiting London for a long weekend. Recently refurbished lobby. Great location in trendy Bankside / Southwalk. So may places close by and well connected via bus or underground and close to Waterloo, Blackfriers and London Bridge train stations.

Great breakfast and friendly staff. One tip - if offered a drink when waiting to check in, you will be charged for the drink - £7.00 for two coffees. So now you know.

I usually stay next door at the Citizen M when visiting London but, uncharacteristically, it was fully booked this particular weekend when I had a planned visit to The Globe. So I booked into the Mercure, around the corner, and oh, the difference is enormous. Despite friendly and courteous staff, The Mercure is a slightly down-at-heel, old fashioned London hotel. Short on space, character or atmosphere it is a throw back to the 80s in shabby decor, comfort and quality. The location is its best feature. The bed was comfortable but the room was featureless, airless, bleak and depressing. Toiletries were poor and the whole place had the feel of a budget hotel masquerading as something smarter. I'm afraid I was not convinced. Give me the chic modernity and wit of Citizen M any day, and there was only a tenner between the two in price.

Green Features: They employ an eco-friendly policy regarding towels etc but toiletries have a break-open cap so you cannot take them with you - not that you'd want to! - which seems wasteful.

I spent the last five days of July with my wife in London. It was a relaxing holiday. Mercure London Bridge was an excellent choice. The location is perfect near London Bridge and the embankment. Two tube stations are very close and Vapiano on the other side of the street. Hotel staff were very friendly and the room was very comfortable. Weather was also nice most of the time.
