“good value and location”
Reviewed 19 June 2012

I stayed here for 2 nights in May, the hotel is well located 5 min walk to Gloucester Rd Tube station which is on the Heathrow line. Hotel is an old building, very historical, a lot of tarten and old style, and tiny lift so used the stairs a lot. However room was spacious and newly decorated. It had 4 beds for 2 of us, so lots of space, bathroom small but well equipped. Breakfast was included, choice was ok not very imaginative but did fine. Not many in the bar area, the hotel overall was good value and good location for sightseeing, very comfortable and quite. I would stay here again as good value in London is hard to find.

Room Tip: they are in the process of renovating the rooms, higher floors have been renovated first.

Booked this hotel at the very last minute for an impromptu trip during halfterm on a very good deal (£60 each room). For the price it was excellent. We dropped our bags off in the morning and the concierge was more than happy to store then until our rooms were ready. On our return we found our rooms on 5th floor - ok so the double was small, even by London standards, but it had good clothes storage, was newly decorated and because of the high windows, we could leave the curtains open without being overlooked. The shower room was very small but had nice toiletries and powerful shower. The twin next door was much bigger, with a bath and more space. Staff were friendly and helpful. Only slight downside was small, slow lift - but you can always take the stairs! The location is excellent - a short walk to Gloucester Road tube in one direction and the Museums of South Kensington in the other. It really is a nice part of London.

Stayed here as a family of five mid summer 2010, the location is perfect for exploring the Victoria and Albert, the Natural History and Science museums all within a lovely walk of this hotel, The underground station and a variety of shops and eateries are only a short walk away. The hotel itself would appeal to the traveller who enjoys staying in buildings of historical and architectural significance which have retained the character, style and features of its original build, Our room and facilities were very comfortable and clean for two adults and three children under 12. The staff were most helpful and attentive, simply loved the ambience and style of this townhouse.

I stayed one night at the Grange Strathmore for a business trip on a late deal (room only) in a single room. The only downside I can think of us that the single room was absolutely tiny (no room for a desk and they had to be pretty creative with stacking furniture on top of each other, and even putting plug sockets in sideways!) but apart from that it was very nicely furnished, modern, and great if you just want a bed for the night. Plus a big bonus was that it seemed pretty quiet as it is on a side street just round the corner from Gloucester Road tube. I've previously stayed at the Radisson Vanderbilt round the corner and the Grange Strathmore was much nicer. The staff were also very welcoming and helpful too. Can't comment on the food as I didn't eat any meals there, but the lounge/bar was very beautifully dove as well. Would definitely consider staying here again if I could get the same deal.

We found it easy to get all over London from this very nice South Kensington location. This is a fine place to stay if you don't plan on spending a lot of time in your hotel. Our room was very small and the closet door only opened half way. Everything else was in working order and comfortable enough. Breakfast was included, which was nice, but the food wasn't very appetizing. The staff was friendly and we didn't have any problems, but this is not a luxurious or overly comfortable hotel.

I stayed here on business for a week as my usual hotel was full up. I arrived in a huff because I like my regular hotel. Trip Advisor ( my constant travel companion ) had put me off with some of the comments too.

Upon arrival reception staff were helpful and polite. The put me in a quiet room which I had asked for in advance. Consierge service is also very efficient and helpful.

My room was unexpectedly nice. Very recently refurbished to a high standard, new carpets, curtains, beds, bathroom fittings etc. Not a very big room though and when staying for 7 nights there's not much space to put clothes etc. It was a living out of suitcase experience. Towels were changed every day probably because there was no where to hang them to dry.

The bed was very comfortable.

For the person who couldn't find the hairdryer, it was in the drawer as it normally is !!!

The top 3 floors have been renovated and they are working their way down, should be very smart when the reception rooms are finished

Breakfast was an unusual sit down service with buffet continental. Quite nice with everything you would need and good service.

Nice quiet location with great access to Gloucester Rd Tube.
