“average hotel - better options in the area”
Reviewed 1 October 2010

Stayed here on business, the area is excellent but the hotel let itslef down slightly especially given the other options in the area. These are the main points I'd like to make:

- I was told on arrival that, despite my documentation clearly stating that "full breakfast" was included, I was only eligible for a continental breakfast. Cooked breakfast was an extra £10. They blamed the booking agents as is always the way.
- I was expecting a double room with a bath but was given a tiny room (believe it was number 7?) in the basement with no bath, and a tiny bathroom / shower unit. There was also only a very small frosted window overlooking a back alley - just as well it was frosted.
- I complained at reception and asked to be moved but was told that the hotel was full and I'd have to make do with what I had. I was offered a cooked breakfast as a form of compensation which I accepted.
- the staff generally were good, despite my problems, and the reception staff deserve particular credit.
- the full English breakfast was very good with plenty of options on the continental menu too. Probably one of the best breakfast services I've had.
- the bar was nice but not much room and no real feel or atmosphere. On the plus side, the booze was dirt cheap for London - around £2.50 for a bottle of Heineken.
- very good location. Gloucester Rd has plenty of good places to eat and drink, with the underground a 5 minute walk away.

So not an awful hotel in any way, shape or form.If I would have received the room and the breakfast I had expected without the hassle it would probably be a 4/5, but felt let down and will probably choose one of the other hotels in the area in future given the option.

This hotel was, as described on Trip Adviser, a great place to stay. We had a very comfortable night with the most friendly and helpful staff we could have wished for. Quiet and clean and convenient, what more can I say! The breakfast is outrageously expensive, but not compulsory, although we did have a very nice continental breakfast at £17 per head!!

We were looking for somewhere to stay for one night because we were going to a show at the Albert Hall. This hotel was on lastminute as a "Secret Hotel". The location is absolutely fantastic - right near to Gloucester Road tube station, lots of nice bars and restaurants, and just a short walk to Hyde Park and the Albert Hall.
We were given a basement room (maybe because we got it cheap as a Secret Hotel?), but the room was a good size, spottlessly clean, with a good bathroom and, even though it was underground, had 4 windows, so was quite light and airy.
Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Breakfast was not included in our room rate but was available at £25 per person... not surprisingly, we decided against paying so much and ate a gorgeous breakfast at one of the many local cafe bars instead.
Overall, a nice hotel, in a great location.

The hotel was immaculate, the rooms are small but have everything you need. Good restaurants just round the corner and easy walking distance of the Science Museum, V & A and Natural History. Open top bus tour from the tube station which is within two minutes walk. It was hot when we visited and there is no air conditioning but a fan was provided and the window opened. It would be lovely and cosy in winter although we probably wouldn't go in the middle of summer again. The staff were polite and friendly and the price was excellent for such a central location. The only money we had to spend on travelling was to and from the train station. Harrods is also within walking distance.

We booked to see Mamma Mia & thought it a good Idea to have a couple of nights in a Hotel, took a chance on this hotel as the price was reasonable & in the right area, also it was a mystery hotel so didn't know what to expect.
I was really happy when I saw our twin room , the beds was so comfy & the room was spotless....
The bathroom was really nice & like everything in the room clean, walk in shower ( just what I required) the only thing I didn't like about the shower was that the shower was fixed to the wall... apart form that everything was absolutely fab.
The staff was nice too.

Booked this hotel through an online offer, as it was competitvely priced and fitted the bill for a place to rest after a trip to the West End. The hotel is well located, just round the corner from Gloucester Road station, so it didn't take long to get into the West End or to any of the nearby attractions (Science Museum, Natural History Museum, Green Park and Buckingham Palace all nearby). It's a little dated inside, but the rooms were clean and more than adequate for our needs. The concierge was happy to look after our bags after check out, and the staff were helpful. It suited what we wanted, but I would probably look for a reduced rate/special rate as I am sure there are plenty of other hotels on a par with this.

Stayed at this beautiful hotel for what was meant to be 1 night however the service and room was so nice we ended up staying for 5 nights, we didnt book a hotel when we booked our tickets and thought we would just find something when we arrived.... i am so glad we did, we came across this lovely hotel in a little book and thought what the heck.... The staff were so accommodating and when we decided to extend our stay they were more than helpful. We did have to change rooms but we were not charged any more and they moved all of our luggage for us. Not only did we extend once but we extended a second time and we were then given the best room in the hotel for the same price as a standard double. Breakfast was light but lovely and the quaint lounge was perfect after we walked all over london, to come back to and enjoy a scotch in a lovely leather lounge, definatley felt like home..Walking distance to Kensington Palace, Glouchester Station and many lovely old little taverns. Thankyou Grange Strathmore we will be back.
