Owner description: Set on the picturesque and extensive grounds of historic Kenwood House, this is a highly genteel and elegant way to enjoy classical music during pleasant summer evenings.

We've been to a few of these concerts, always had a fantastic time having a picnic with friends overlooking the lake, enjoying the music

This year all food and drink was confiscated, food and drink had to be bought inside for complete ripp off prices, 6 pounds a can of beer, 30 pounds for their cheapest red wine. Food was a joke as well. View of the Lake is completely gone, layout was very poorly planned.

I will DEFINITELY not be going again, well done English Heritage for destroying what was a fantastic evening out

Gone was the easy going event, replaced by a vicious over priced money making plan, where the lakeside views are now encased with high metal fences and the overpriced food runs out, picnics are no longer allowed. A REAL disappointment for all of us brought up on Kenwood concerts, shame on English Heritage for allowing this North London institution to be so thoroughly destroyed. Event started late, the actual performers where very good, just ruined by the commercialism.

We were also at Kenwood last night to see the Royal Philharmonic concert which was wonderful. Unfortunately the event was run to make maximum profit from a captive audience. The no picnic rule was enforced by a bag search and only one small sealed bottle of water per person was allowed into the venue. Flying with Ryanair comes to mind, the price of drinks and coffee was eye watering.
Having been to concerts at Kenwood in it's heyday it's a huge shame to see it fall victim to such greedy organizers.

Up until a few years ago, these summer concert evenings were one of the highlights of the year, having a picnic whilst listening to fantastic music in a beautiful setting. Unfortunately, the greed of the new organisers have ruined the event and it is highly unlikely that we will return.

Badly publicised information regarding picnics resulted in our crisps being confiscated due to security concerns. The fence line was littered with food, cool bags and rucksacks where other people had had all their picnic items taken off them. Of course this is so they could sell you a hamper for £65 on the other side of the gate. 2 small bottles of beer and a glass of pims will set you back £20 and if you want a coffee to keep you awake while waiting hours for the music to start, it will cost you £3.50.

The tickets said gates open at 5, event starts at 6, but it was 7.30 before the solo support act came on for a half hearted set and the Royal Philharmonic came on at 8.30. Of course they are world class musicians but by that point a lot of the excitement had drained out of the evening. Security guards were patrolling looking for food that they had neglected to confiscate.

The toilets were among the worst I've experienced.

By half time, people were streaming out the gate and by the encore the top field was looking a bit sparse. Such a shame as these concerts use to be so incredible. Not everything should be about money and ripping people off leaves a bitter taste in the mouth

We visited Kenwood on Saturday 23rd to see the wonderful Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra playing movie themes of John Williams, who were fantastic. However, the magic and ambience of the open air picnics concerts we had enjoyed for years previously has now been completely ruined, and sadly this can only be due to the corporate greed of the event organisers.
There was nothing clearly advertised to state you couldn't bring your own picnic (as we have done in previous years), upon arrival, security bag checks were taking place (which I have no problem with), however, all our food was immediately confi
scated and placed in a wheely bin!! We were advised we could search the bins when leaving and collect our food (unlikely with a thousand people + attending!) The tickets stated the event started at 6pm, arrival from 5pm. The orchestra did not appear until 8.30pm. This entire process was to ensure the public had no choice but to spend as much time as possible purchasing food and drink at the venue. A bottle of beer cost £6 and a coffee £3. 50...many people left at the interval. It was actually difficult to enjoy the concert as so many people were heading off and weaving in between those left on the grass. I assume the evening was too long for those with young children (or they had run out of money !) And the toilets were repulsive.
Kenwood, I hope you take note of this. You will make a far larger profit going back to the old format. Let us purchase a deck seat chair in advance, overlooking the beautiful lake. Allow the picnics, people will still buy food and drinks on site (as they always used to) and you will continue to have a sell out concert. With this new format, people are highly unlikely to return year on year, or recommend, and it will be the demise of these one very beautiful, relaxed and magical evenings.
