“Perfect hotel for London Sight Seeing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2014

This hotel certainly lived up to its reputation. The rooms are modern and have all mod cons. We had a King Executive room which included access to the Executive Lounge which provides hot and cold drinks and snacks all day and a quiet location for breakfast if you require. The only negative point is the check in which has already been pointed out in other reviews. We arrived at lunchtime and having queued for a substantial period of time we were told there were no rooms available yet and so we left our luggage and came back after 1700hrs as advised. However we then had to queue again for about 30 minutes just to be assigned our room and then queued again for over 20 minutes to get our luggage! And we did not get any cookies despite seeing others being given them!!! Apart from this relatively minor but irritating aspect, the hotel and staff are superb.

I used to work just round the corner from this hotel so remember the plot being cleared and saw it being built (mostly from the pub opposite!) from the very start. I have visited the Sky Lounge on a couple of occasions but have always wanted to stay here and got an opportunity last week. It is a very nice hotel; light and spacious corridors leading to well appointed (though not huge) rooms. The rooms are not lacking anything and little extras like macaroons in the room were a nice touch. The air conditioning worked very well and the beds were very comfortable. Everything was clean and fresh. A couple of annoyances; firstly given the choice of lower floor room with a king bed or upper floor room with a queen bed we went for the latter expecting upper floor to equal a nice view. Our room was on the 8th floor and the view was of a wall. Secondly, the iMac may be very high tech and clever but it was not easy to use. Possibly the batteries in the remote were on their way out but it seemed very unresponsive and, as with everything Apple, a few buttons had to perform a lot of different tasks. However, I am pleased to have stayed here and would be happy to stay here, or in another Doubletree by Hilton, again.

I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. I booked a night for my wife's 30th birthday together with a show in the evening. I asked for some balloons/banners to be placed in the room prior to our arrival as a surprise for my wife. This was fulfilled as requested after exchanging various emails with the manager "Lee Mills" over the past few weeks. The room was superb, clean, fresh and large with a great view over London (we were on the 9th floor). We visited the sky lounge around midnight for a cocktail. The view was stunning and the drinks were splendid. Breakfast the next morning was great, so much choice and was excellent quality. All in all the best hotel I have stayed in for a long while. All the staff made us feel welcome, relaxed and went out there way to make sure we were comfortable and happy. I cannot thank them enough and also to "lee" for making this a superb night away. We will certainly stay again in the future. Many thanks again.

Room Tip: Great location for all the main transport hubs etc, Choose a high room for the views over London.

I have stayed at multiple DoubleTree properties in the United States. My most recent stay was my first at a DoubleTree overseas. It is a credit to the brand and the entire Hilton family. Stateside DoubleTree locations could learn several lessons from the Brits. In this property's favor are the following attributes:

1) It is a 2-minute walk from the Tower Hill subway station, served by the Circle Line and District Line. It is the same distance from the Tower Hill Gateway DLR station.

2) The front desk is staffed by at least twice as many clerks as I've seen at any other DoubleTree.

3) The front desk clerks are trained in the special needs of business travelers.

4) The front desk can accept credit card payment in US dollars for convenience.

5) The Honors breakfast has a wide selection including made-to-order items such as omelets with ample staff and a comfortable atmosphere.

6) Diamond Honors members receive access to the Executive Lounge which offers a convenient alternative breakfast for travelers on-the-go and a beer tap in the evening (along with hors d'oeuvres of high quality).

7) The WiFi is complimentary to all guests and of decent quality.

8) The outdoor lounge on the roof is spacious and offers a unique view of the Tower and Tower Bridge.

9) Deluxe rooms and suites are equipped with an iMac which is connected to the hotel courtesy printer in Guest Services in the lobby and doubles as the television. It is equipped with external speakers which provide mellifluous audio.

Given the chance, I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Tenth floor will be slightly quieter due to noise from taxi whistle of doorman from adjacent hotel a...

This is a lovely hotel with friendly helpful staff, clean and spacious rooms and right by tower hill tube station. We stayed at the hotel before doing the London 100 cycle ride and the staff could not have been more helpful. They provided an area for us to store our bikes and the kitchen opened early to provide us with breakfast at 5am for which we were very appreciative.
A really excellent hotel that we will certainly return to.

I stayed for 4 nights on my way back to the U.S. from the Maldives. I was specifically looking for a place that is quiet but central and this was certainly it. The financial district location means relatively quiet evenings, something I needed after crossing multiple time zones, yet the Yellow and Blue tube lines (subways to us) were within walking distance. The room was clean and comfortable, though smaller than most U.S.-based Doubletrees. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. Unfortunately, there were not enough staff, so that wait times at the Guest Services desk, the bar and the restaurant was often longer than it should have been. Nevertheless, a shout out to the folks in Guest Services who tried to assist me with a complaint against one of the coach touring companies. All in all, a good value for the money, although the USD-GBP conversion rate is a killer!

Arrived by train (at Kings Cross St Pancras Station) from Paris. Bought an Oyster card, loaded it with 20 GBP and got on the Circle Line. The Tower Hill station is around the corner from the hotel (very handy). The hotel lobby was very spacious and clean. The check in was quick and easy. Wifi is free and connection was good. Elevators to all floors. The room was a good size with a nib wall separating the sleeping area from the door and bathroom. The windows were able to be opened to allow fresh air. The room looked out over the atrium which was ok. No loud noise to speak of. The Tower of London is across the road and with the Tower Hill station around the corner, getting around was simple. There was a restaurant downstairs but I didn't eat there so can't comment (plenty of customers though). Stayed here 3 nights - I really liked the location of this hotel.
