“Nice Hotel no heating in public areas in December a let down.”
Reviewed 4 January 2011

Just returned from a New Year break at the Britannia International. Staff were great overall impression of the Hotel good value, good location friendly staff enoyed what we saw of entertainment.
However the whole experience was spoilt by the heating in all public areas not working. We were so cold some of our group had to go out and but heavy cardigans etc.
On evening of 30th the entertainment room was empty, it was just to cold to sit there any longer, the same for all the public rooms. Everyone seemed to retire to their bedrooms, which was a shame as the Duo were really good. At no time did any member of staff attemt to explain to the residence why there was no heating. We felt that the management should have been mixing with the residence and explianing the situation to us.

On behalf of all the staff of the International Hotel I would like to thank you for taking the time to post these positive comments about your recent stay with us. Please accept my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused during your stay with us because of lack of heating in public area, it was because of technical fault in our boiler and because of bank holidays we were no able to fix it completely, as we where waiting for one of the part from outsource company.

We are looking forward to welcome you back in the near future.

We did a three-day break which was very enjoyable. Hotel was impressive both in the location and the friendliness of the staff. We had an excellent full breakfast. Every request was attended to during our stay. We were upgraded to the 11th floor and the views were stunning. We certainly could not find anything to complain about.
The directions from South Quays was misleading though. You need to turn left when you come out of the station - not right!

Like others I had read the reviews on this hotel and had mixed feelings, however one thing that that I thought was very good was the fact that the Operations Manager read the reviews and took time to answer some of them. We have stayed in other London Hotels and have enjoyed our time there, but value for money you cannot complain about the Britannia. All the hotel staff were friendly and polite. During our stay there was a strike on the underground and one of the lines were closed. The staff on reception were on hand to advise which was the best way to get into the centre of London, nothing was too much for them. On our first day it was quiet in the hotel and breakfast wasn't a problem. The next couple of days a lot more people arrived and it was very busy, but there was never the queuing for food that someone had mentioned earlier. The rooms were cleaned to a high standard and I think Siddharth Mahajan and his staff do an excellent job, together with that and the fact that it is in a good location for the underground I wouldn't hesitate coming back.

hotel was very grand and invting, beautiful christmas tree.
the reception staff on our arrival were not very freindly which was a little disapointing. the rooms were very clean, warm and inviting but the toilet paper was very cheap !
At breakfast we were shown to a table which had not been cleaned and re set and after waiting for quite a while we ended up getting our own cups etc which again was disapointing.
We had to pay an extra £2.50 each to use the swimming pool which suprised us as residents.
Car park charges were very high, but that is fairly normal for London.

Dear helellis,

Thank you very much for posting your comments on the Trip advisor Website.
Please accept my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused during your stay with us.

On the day of your arrival, Front Desk staff were very busy, as we had major arrivals that day.Never the less to say that Staff should have gone out of their way to assist you, which they generally do. In regards to Breakfast, I have taken your feedback and will look into it. It is a hotel policy to charge minimal charge of £ 2.5 for Gym.

I am concerned that you have taken away a less than favourable impression of the International Hotel as a result of the above and I am anxious to redeem our reputation in your eyes. With this in mind, I would be grateful if on the next occasion you require accommodation in London you make your booking through this office so that I may personally attend to the details on your behalf. Please do not hesitate to contact me on siddharth.mahajan@britanniahotels.com

I had a one night stay here and chose the hotel because it is handy for Canary Wharf offices. The hotel itself was average quality, a little tired and worn, but at 98 GBP per night B&B priced about right. I must say that some of the other more enthusiastic reviews of this hotel do not match my experience.

not for the first time I have problems reconciling my experience with a hotel to other reviews. This hotel is good, clean and has helpful / friendly staff. Bedroom was spacious, clean and quiet. Buffet breakfast was good and no problems with quality or quantity
Only slight downside is the small swimming pool.

Where do i start ? we booked this hotel for clients to stay at after a Xmas do through Alpha rooms . I managed to check in ok but one of our clients was refused a room as the Britannia Hotel said the paperwork was incorrect and that we did not have a booking for another room . Our paperwork clearly showed the correct number of rooms and we had a separate accomodation voucher for each room. The Britannia still refused to give us the room , even though they had ample spare rooms ! They told us to go on our night out and when we got back the room would be sorted .
Returning at midnight , they had still not sorted a room and asked us to go and sit in the bar whilst it was sorted out - this was the final straw and we refused to do this .
In frustration my client got a cab and went home in disgust !
The incompetence of the reception staff has to be seen to be believed , this is not the first time this has happened as we have had similar problems in recent years .
As a client who had clearly paid for a room they should have given us a room and sorted the "paperwork problem" out with Alpha rooms separately.
Very very poor customer service !!!!!
In additon to the above problem the hotel is about 30 degrees throughout and is like a sauna . It go so bad that i had to get maintenance to come and open the glazed curtain walling in attempt to cool the room down !
The rooms are tired to say the least , the shower was hanging off the wall , the wardrobe door was broken and the bed was like a sheet of ply with springs digging in your back .
to say i am annoyed is an understandment !
I have now officially given this hotel the red card !!!!

Dear Mr Brightside99,

Thank you very much for posting your comments on the Trip advisor Website.
Please accept my sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused during your stay with us.

I have done the investigation and found out that there was communication error from Alpha Rooms ( Travel Agent ) to our reservation team, therefore your client’s reservation was not there in our system. I have spoken to Ms Watkins (Director of your Company) today and explained her situation in detail.

I am concerned that you have taken away a less than favourable impression of the International Hotel as a result of the above and I am anxious to redeem our reputation in your eyes.
