A great hotel on a quiet tree lined street ... Very close to the underground station, and maybe just over a mile walk to the delights of Notting Hill and Portobello Road.

The buffet Breakfast was terrific ... Lots to choose from - proper orange juice too!

Lots of computers in the lobby, with free wifi, but what made the trip was the ability to print our boarding passes for our flight home. That facility saved us 20mins faffing about at the airport.

Have already booked a return trip in September .... I think this might be 'our' London Hotel.
All I need to do now is find my Hilton Honors number so I can take advantage of their membership scheme.

This hotel is out of the way - down the road from Notting Hill. It is on a bus route so it is not horrible but takes time to get to the parts of London where all the excitement is. There is nothing around. The restaurants are at least 2 or 3 blocks away and not open late. So, after a long days exploring, the only food to eat is the hotel food which leaves little to be desired. The menu is limited. Only 1 salad (caesar with chicken/beef/fish). No fish and chips. The burgers are good but you can't eat burgers every day. There is a Tesco up the block but this is good only for snacks and water.
The one great part to our trip so far has been our concierge Rachid. He has been EXTREMELY helpful during our stay. He went above and beyond to show us how to navigate the buses and underground. He gave us great tips on sights to see both in London and outside. He's treated us like family.
Hotel staff has also been extremely helpful during our stay. When we needed some items fixed in our rooms (TV remote) and housekeeping items (extra blanket and pillow), they were very quick to respond. Front desk staff went above and beyond to help up with gaining access to our rooms very quickly upon arrival. Check in was at 3pm and they were able to give us one of the two rooms (connecting) at 1:30.
Service score is for concierge. Would score a 4 without his extra efforts.

The hotel was located about 5 minutes walk from Sheperd's Bush tube stop. It is next to Westfield mall which if you like shopping, you would be in paradise. However, the hotel itself was dated. The check-in staff were friendly. We signed up for executive lounge access which was 30 pounds per night, it provided breakfast, tea time snack and pre dinner drinks. They could pack a breakfast box for you if you leave early morning. That was nice.

The hotel itself was quite dated. I could hear the water from upstairs running through the pipes throughout the night. The room was small with adequate amenities and coffee making facilities. However, the house-keeping staff did forget to refill it sometimes. Wifi was not free in room but in lobby only so that's a disappointment.

On the day we left, a concierge guy came whisper to us about taking a taxi to Heathrow for 50 pounds and when we said no, he was not very happy. It seemed strange to me. But other concierge staff were nice throughout our stay. Overall I don't think I would stay there again.

Room Tip: Get a room on higher floor coz it's located on main road, it could be noisy on 1/F

Before complimenting the room, I want to take issue with the hotel's name. It can only be called the Kensington on a technicality IMHO. It is located in Holland Park, way outside Kensington itself, and barely 100 metres inside the boundary of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is right next to Shepherds Bush, but in truth that's a positive thing because you have a convenient tube station and railway line close by. It's also a relatively short walk to Holland Park tube station.

Reception staff were friendly and efficient despite being very busy at checkin due to a bus load of American tourists arriving. We also had a positive experience at checkout.

The hotel room was comfortable, quiet and cool, with good quality bedding. We had a great night's sleep, albeit I would have preferred a king- to a queen-sized bed. What really surprised me was the quirky plumbing - I've probably spent over 1,000 nights in hotels in my 50 years yet I have never seen such a bizarre over-bath shower before. It took me a good few minutes to work out how to get water to come out of the shower head. The shower pipe also had a serious leak, yet despite calling housekeeping prior to going out for the evening it wasn't fixed. Luckily it wasn't noisy so it didn't affect our sleep.

Our room (4th floor at the back of the hotel) had a really fast wifi connection courtesy of BT Openzone. I'm not sure if this came from the hotel itself or a neighbouring property but it worked well. I therefore didn't connect to and can't comment on the other wifi networks in the hotel.

Negatives: Room size is extremely tiny and if you plan to spend time watching TV in your room, well the telecast is not clear.. especially in days when you have LED/LCD TV's everywhere.. the huge TV with a bad reception is a shock.. (I was there during the Soccer world cup and was extremely disappointed with this)

Positives: Staff is extremely courteous and pleasant. Reception/ House Keeping and concierge everyone was nice.

I stayed here for 4 nights with a friend in a twin room- it was tiny! Could not even open our suitcases fully without putting them on the beds. Bathrooms felt grimy and the whole place could do with a makeover. Staff were unpleasant and made you feel as though they were doing you a favour just to do their jobs. To top it off wifi was only complimentary in the lobby so you would see many people loitering. On the positive side, the hotel is only 150 metres away from the underground, overground and London Westfield. Would not stay again.

We noted her name as she was exceptional, Christina, at the reception of Hilton Kensington was fantastic. Greeted us with a smile and made effort to make us feel very welcome. Beyond checking us in (which was smooth) Christina also offered local knowledge before we left to explore the area. The pleasant welcoming experience resonated throughout the rest of our stay as a result of receiving such high quality service at the very start of our visit.
