“Great choice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014 via mobile

We were really happy with our choice of hotel for our family of 4 staying 3 nights in London. The location is perfect - a stroll to the Natural History Museum, lots of restaurants and pubs close by and good access to central tube stations. The room was maybe a bit smaller than ideal for all of us, but was well equipped and very clean.

Breakfast was a bit busy but very efficient with great customer service and good quality and choice of food.

The garden access is a real differentiator, it was lovely to be able to sit outside with a drink after a long day tramping around London.

Lovely hotel, nicely situated, close to the Gloucester Road tube station. Rooms are clean and comfortable, & in terms of London's standards, a nice size. Staff are friendly and professional and ready to assist with any queries you may have. Breakfast buffet offers a large variety. A number of good restaurants & stores in the vicinity. Hotel also offers a lovely garden which is ideal for light snacks/drinks. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden quitter than those overlooking the main road.

London is among the most expensive cities in the world and the accommodations are often very pricey without being particularly nice. The Crown Plaza is well maintained, friendly, and well located in South Kensington close to a number of transit options and the museums. There are number of good restaurants and stores in the area. This is a solid 4 star place by US standards. The rooms are larger than most comparable rooms in the city and provided a good base for our family while on vacation. They happily stored our luggage while we toured on our departure day. I would definitely return. It deserves consideration if you are looking for something in the neighborhood.

First impressions make this an appealing option for business of social travel. The location of this hotel is ideal for visiting the Royal Albert Hall without being directly on its door step, also other attractions. Gloucester Road tube station (2 minute walk away) enables you to get back to Liverpool Street with ease. We had room 306 which over looks the back gardens which was very quiet considering it was a Saturday night. Check-in and concierge was faultless and the reception area was immaculately clean. The hotel bar was smaller than expected but the gardens and shaded canopy was ideal for escaping the heat. Nice gardens and drink prices were more reasonable than expected. Mixture of nationalities and ages. There are better breakfast offers outside of the hotel in nearby cafes / restaurants. The air con in the hotel room was excellent and despite the heat of summer the room could be chilled without the need to leave your room key in the room. The bed was comfortable and the only reason this did not get a 5 rating was the overall size of the room and the quality of some of the furniture (scuffed, little tired and marked in some obvious places). Bathroom ceiling was slightly peeled and the shower was not as powerful as other London hotels we have stayed in. Overall positive and we will stay again due to the location and professional service.

My wife and I stayed for 11 nights at the hotel in June and thoroughly enjoyed our time here. The location is outstanding with Gloucester Road tube station a few minutes walk away and buses operating along Cromwell Road in front of the hotel. The Piccadilly Line is out of service until December 2014 but the District and Circle Lines will get you around adequately. There is a supermarket and two restaurants directly opposite the hotel which we used on several occasions. There are also several other restaurants, KFC, Burger King and a pub nearby. Also within a short walking distance are Harrods, two Museums and the open space of Hyde Park. Check in was smooth and quick with my Platinum Priority Membership recognised and a room upgrade and drinks voucher provided. The room was quite a decent size by London standards and well appointed with all the creature comforts one expects from the Crowne Plaza brand. The hotel also has a lovely and quite spacious garden at the rear where guests can relax and enjoy a drink and read the paper which was very pleasant on a warm summer evening. Our interaction with all hotel staff was postive with any request handled promptly, with a smile and to satisfaction. With the World Cup on at the time of our visit the ground floor bar provided a vibrant venue on many nights which was fun. The nightly rate for accommodation is certainly not cheap but given the great location, level of comfort and good standard of service is not unreasonable, particularly in comparison to other inferior hotels in the Kensington area we saw This hotel is one of my favourites and I look forward to our next stay here which hopefully will not be too long away.

Room Tip: A room on the upper levels at the rear overlooking the garden

We stayed here in July 2014 during London's first warm weather of the summer and boy, were we glad we had chosen a hotel with air-conditioning! Americans take such a thing for granted, but most of northern Europe doesn't have such a thing. Trust me and spend the extra bucks. Our room was large (yes, really), had a navigable shower with a tub, in-room coffee, and a view of the private garden. Cocktails in the garden were a delightful way to start every evening. A cool room with a garden, walking distance to Harrod's, the V and A, and Royal Albert Hall, and 30 feet to the Gloucester Rd. tube stop...what else are you waiting for?

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the garden side.

Unexpectedly stuck in London on a Friday night, I was pleasantly surprised to find an affordable vacancy at this hotel, just 5 minutes' walk from the nearby Gloucester Road station with its connection to the Circle and District London Underground lines (the Piccadilly line is temporarily closed at this station for refurbishment works until late 2014). Across the street there are a number of restaurants (e.g. Garfunkels) and high street stores including Boots and Waitrose.
Check-in was easy, and I was very glad of the drinks voucher provided through the IHG Rewards Club programme which gave me much needed refreshment at the bar as I ordered my evening meal (just missed the 10pm cut-off time at the restaurant). No matter, as the excellent service continued from reception to bar and I was able to enjoy a fabulous combination of Thai beef salad, satay chicken, and the most astonishing Thai fishcakes that I have ever tasted, all to a backdrop of some very cool jazz. Nice.
The room had a small balcony overlooking the garden and church, and came with complimentary refreshments of water, chocolate, and biscuits in addition to the standard tea and coffee. Airconditioning allowed me to forget the stifling London heat and enjoy one of the most relaxing night's sleep I've experienced in nearly three years' of working in the capital. Both the room and the ensuite bathroom were very roomy, furnished and decorated to a high quality.
Breakfast opened at 7.30 am (weekend timings), consisting of a fairly eclectic mix of hot and cold options ranging from muesli, salami, and cheese through to black pudding, and fried eggs.
If I had more time, I would have explored the fitness centre located in the basement. If I can afford another stay here it will be on the list for next time.

Room Tip: Garden view from 306 was beautiful, especially in the morning
