The comparatively low TripAdvisor rating is misleading, given the recent extensive remodelling to the hotel under the DoubleTree banner. This is now a very sleek and attractive hotel which suits both work and leisure travellers, midway between Heathrow and central London.
The standard rooms are definitely small, possibly the smallest I have ever encountered. They probably wouldn’t be great for an extended stay. However, for brief visits they are fine and of course have been refurbished to a high standard. If you are just using the hotel for sleeping you can have no complaint. The mattress is well up to Hilton comfort standards, the flat screen TV has dozens of cable channels from around the world and the coffee machine is state of the art. Sound insulation from other rooms and from outside was also good.
As for food, breakfast is exactly what you expect from a Hilton, with a wide selection served in pleasant surroundings. Happily the hot items were grilled as opposed to fried so I didn’t have a load of fat in my system first thing in the morning. Dinner was also good although expensive for the size of the portions.
There are 2 areas for improvement. Firstly, service in the restaurant was friendly and enthusiastic but not finely honed. My ordered evening drink and meal took ages to arrive, which gave me time to notice the unacceptably dusty wine glass on my table. On both of my 2 visits, when I got up to go to the buffet, my table had been cleared by the time I returned.
Secondly, not everything supplied by the hotel was up to 4* quality. The toilet paper was cheap and rough and the breakfast “orange juice” tasted like flavoured water.
But overall, this is a great hotel which seems to be priced attractively with advance booking.
