I stayed here with my mum and sisters as part of a weekend theatre break in London. On first impression, the hotel is striking and upmarket on the outside. When we walked inside, the atmosphere was cosy , relaxed and inviting and the staff were totally professional and efficient. I told the man it was my mum's 60th birthday and he upgraded us to a beautiful, spacious room. Our luggage was taken to our room . The location is perfect- less than 5 mins walk from Covent Garden. We didn't have breakfast as part of our deal, so both mornings we ate in Mark's and Spencers restaurant opposite Covent Garden Tube- they serve excellent breakfast at a very reasonable cost. The hotel and rooms were spotlessly clean. The beds were comfortable with crisp white linen. The only problem was that our room was at the front of the hotel and there is a nightclub a few doors up, so if you are staying at the weekend you might request a room in another part of the building to avoid the noise of the music.

Room Tip: If staying at the weekend avoid rooms at front of hotel as you can hear music from nearby nightclub.

Stayed here for two nights as part of a theatre package. Only used it for bed and breakfast, but hotel and staff created an excellent impression. Staff were friendly and attentive. Only a hundred-odd yards from Holborn tube, so great for getting around.

I stay here for my friends hen weekend, the group was aged between mid 20's - 50 year olds.

This hotel is in a great location in Covent Garden (nearest tube is Holborn though). The hotel more than lived up to our expectations with spacious rooms (for london) which are well decorated and very clean. We checked in with ease and were offered help with our luggage, which we declined. We did not need any assistance during our stay as everything was perfect.

Our rate included breakfast, served buffet style, this was delicioius and set us up for our adventures in london.

Would recommend to anyone.

I stayed here with my husband last week. I arrived early as he was in meeting and the door staff were exceptional, taking my case from the taxi and showing me to reception. It was an outstanding first impression. The reception staff were efficient and friendly. The room was comfortable and extremely clean and the bathroom was the same. It took me a while to work out the tv.....I thought it was just me until I realised that the power cable had been disconnected! I treated myself to a (VERY) small bottle of white wine - no more than a glass!) and a (again small) jar of peanuts! Whilst most welcome after a fairly long day, they cost £8.50!!!
The only downside of this hotel is the breakfast we had the next morning. We were told breakfast finished at 10 and as we both had the day off, we didnt arrive till about 9.30. Juices and cereals were laid out on a table and the hot food was buffet-style, not my favourite but understandable in a hotel, I suppose. We were told at 10, that the buffet was closing and to help ourselves if we wanted anymore - which we didnt!! By far the worst was the tea and coffee that were served from hot jugs on a trolley. My husbands coffee was stewed beyond belief but my tea was a tea bag with barely hot water poured over it. The scum when poured made it undrinkable! You had to make your own toast using the communal toaster - ok in a cheaper B and B but certainly not acceptable in a hotel of this price.
I certainly would not want anyone to be put off staying at this hotel as I genuinely loved it but I just hope someone from the management team reads this and addresses the breakfast problems.

Dear janiedelang,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Tripadvisor.co.uk.

We were delighted to learn that most of your expectations were met, and I shall personally ensure that your kind comments are passed onto all those concerned.
I was of course a little disappointed to read your comments about the breakfast, and would like to reassure you that I have since spoken with all those concerned with the intention on improving standards.

It is our aim to achieve a level of service which is beyond our guests’ expectations, and I am therefore grateful you have advised me of this valuable feedback.

We very much look forward to welcoming you back in the not too distant future and in the meantime, if we may assist further, please do not hesitate to contact us direct.

First an aside about our package provider! We booked accom/theatre tickets through hoteldirect dot co dot uk and found the hotel reviews on TA to be pretty accurate - the tickets we got with the deal however were for rubbish seats for Jersey Boys so would probably not use this short break provider again - they MUST know the cheap seats at the top of the house are really so poor no-one would leave the theatre having sat there and felt they had a good evening - we were able to move at the interval and got slightly better seats but that was by chance. Many of these seats at the top deck are RV - Restricted View. These RV seats are available cheap all over London to mugs stupid enough to buy them! (mugs like us apparently)
Now to the hotel - it has a superb position and is a mere stroll from Covent Garden - its on the Kingsway side of Covent Garden and Great Queen Street runs into Long Acre i.e. east but in a very good position for theatreland and not bad for the West End - so no probs with location, location, location. The problem is investment, investment, investment - apparently this place was built on the site of an old recording company HQ by a 'private family' according to the notes in the room - well if they are a wealthy family (presume they must have been to buy the site and build the place) and they still own it then they need to put their hands in their pockets again to update some of the essentials - FIRST and foremost the doorlocks on the doors do not work properly - we had a total of 5 keycards run off for us and spent a total of probably about fifteen minutes over the three night stay trying to get into our room - one staff member told me when I asked for another keycard that it would not make any difference because they are all as useless as the rest - new keycards are run off willy-nilly and it makes no difference you are constantly fiddling with it zapping it up and down in the lock to try to get the door open - very, very, annoying - one night we had to drag a front desk man upstairs to open the door for us - he ran off another new card and did it first time!! Bit like the AA man starting your car when you had failed!
The ordinary rooms are pretty small - not much really they can do about that but they could invest in a modern TV/info system - there are just 9 free channels including news channels plus bbc and itv basics - everything else is pay tv/porn/satellite etc also the picture quality is rubbish. Wifi is charged for in the lobby and plug-in access chargeable in the rooms - in this day and age this is quite frankly rubbish!
The air-con system is also due for a major upgrade - we had to crank it up to max and it was not particularly warm outside at night - I hate to think what it would be like if it was hot! Reception took my room number and said they would get it looked at but it did not improve - we were told the windows did not open but a room maid obviously knew the trick as they were open one day when we went back - that helped but may your god help you if it is hot outside - the noise from the system on full belt was like white noise but louder!
All this was I suppose bearable if you have to put up with it for what you perceive as a good deal pricewise - breakfast is 15 per head but the table d'hote in the evening seemed reasonable by comparison at 20 quid.
The staff are unfailingly helpful and genuinely friendly - they do their best to make up for other shortcomings with the hotel infrastructure.
Oh yes and don't fiddle with the bottles in the minibar as they really do charge your room if you move anything in there - we thought it was just an idle threat so just moved a few things to cool bottles of water we bought back to the room and ended up with a 70 quid overcharge - they cancelled it when we noticed and I hope not to see it on our cc statement when we get that! Pity other electrical items are not as efficient - funny that!

Room Tip: We were told we had an upgraded room (which meant it came with a kingsize bed) well I'd hate to...

This hotel was very clean, well located and had very friendly/helpful staff.

We would definatly recommend this hotel to anyone, we stayed in the suite which was perfect.

We didn't eat in the hotel so we cannot comment on the food, although it did look very good, especially the cream tea and scones.

Our bedroom was clean and welcoming, the only fault we could make was that in the bathroom there is a speaker, which is supposed to play the radio to you, whilst in the bath or using the lavatory. However our speaker didn't work, we didnt spend enough time in the hotel to worry about this, but if we were to be there a few days, we would have asked for it to be repaired.

The location is brilliant, only 2 minutes from Holborn underground, and 10 minutes maximum from Covent Garden underground. The Punch and Judy pub is a must in the plaza of Covent Garden. The pub has an upstairs balcony over looking a wide area of Covent Garden, so you can watch the street acts whilst having a drink, brilliant.

Would definatly return to this hotel, hopefully the speaker works this time, haha.

Room Tip: We had a suite with a street view. To be honest though the street view is ok but not a lot going on...
