“Fantastic view of the river”
Reviewed 18 June 2010

We spent just one night at the Marriott County Hall in May. We paid a little extra for a fantastic view of the river, across to the houses of parliament and the tower of Big Ben. We had a light meal in the bar when we arrived, which was all we wanted as it was unseasonably hot that night and the a/c could not keep up. Our salads were good and we got cold beer. We strolled outside to the London Eye and watched the lights fade...a lovely evening. The next day we got some excellent assistance from the concierge who arranged a chauferred car to take us to Gatwick, which we were able to charge to our room (very convenient). A very nice place to stay, predictable good Marriott service but sadly no comfy Marriott bed!

Hotel was nice, very generic. We had the free breakfast included with our room which was great- traditional English breakfast or continental or anything off the menu. London is very pricey so this was a nice way to save a few dollars. The hotel is located in a very touristy area- it was good for our first trip to London, but I would opt to stay in a more central area next time. Staff was very helpful.

Marriott county hall is very expensive, but the room (big ben/river view) was perfect, and spacious with everything I needed. I paid extra for executive lounge access, and that was well worth it, with really good quality service, snacks and breakfast. the lounge was a bit small, so avoidable at peak hours, but still and excellent respite.

You can't beat this central location for seeing the best of london. You may be able to find a better value, but I needed reliable, quality and a great view and I got it. I'd recommend it if it's in your budget.

Not a 5 star hotel good location is the only plus point. Entrance to the hotel is poor. Room standard ok bathroom average with a drip of a power shower. Breakfast was terrible the staff did not seem organised, had to ask for everything down to side plate and salt and pepper. Bacon was sitting in a inch of grease, not what you expect . Asked for low floor as i dont go in lifts, on arrival was told room was on 5th floor even after they changed the room to lower floor had to go up fire escape stairs (disused corrider from hotels previous existence) which was less than acceptable. Overall not impressed with the value which my husband paid for my birthday.

We booked County Hall off a $135 bid from Priceline - as a treat for our last two nights in London. Immediately, I wished we were there for longer. Yes, it is a Marriott - but after two weeks of budget hotels it feel super luxurious.

Our view wasn't of the Thames, but of Jubilee Garden - which was still quite nice. And my husband enjoyed the fact there was an indoor pool.

Would definitely visit again.

Staying at the County Hall for a week was in general a great experience. The location is perfect, especially since I was working in Westminster. Opening your curtains to be greated by the London Eye, Thames and Houses of Parliment is a great start to the day.

The bars and restaurants were relaxed, elegant and very comfortable. The staff were professional, efficient and discreet - faultless. The room was good, only issue was the difficulty it took to connect to the expensive Wifi.

Certainly recommend the hotel to any business travellers with a larger budget. The local attractions, great bars, restaurants and sights also make it a great spot for a city break, and I will look to stay here again on my next visit.

The good : the staff are unfailingly helpful, courteous and knowledgeable; the rooms are kept very clean; the location on the Thames just behind the London Eye and across from the Houses of Parliament is one of the best in London, and the food is very good.
The bad : the layout is the worst of any hotel I've visited, and inexcusable for a Marriott. For starters, there are two entrances through the County Hall building which are under the control of other organisations which employ your average rent-a-guard type to sit at a desk. Less of an issue if these entrances didn't allow access to the Marriott itself at certain times, but they do : one at the back of the sitting area, one from the embankment. Yes, there is video surveillance throughout the hotel, but so what ? Second, and just as crucial, if you get a low-numbered room (say 501), regardless of floor, you're in for a long walk. I specifically asked for a room near an elevator for my mother who had trouble walking long distances. I got two rooms side by side at the back of the hotel, which entailed a trek along four long corridors. The staff were good enough to change this when I asked, but be aware, if you have mobility problems - specifically a heart condition - insist on a room near the elevators. The downside is that you may well end up with a view of the solid centre of the hotel.
