“Great service”
Reviewed 17 February 2014

A simple place, but fantastic service. I was an idiot and left something in my room after I left. They searched high and low for it and found it for me. They posted it back to me. As it said, a simple place, nothing fancy, but clean and in a great location with incredibly helpful staff.

Although I thought booked a en-suite single room for 2 nights, was allocated a double bed on the top floor. Cost £69 per night.

Room 3 had a single layer window, looking out to the back. Bed was fairly comfortable and the Samsung freeview TV was good.

The bathroom was not bad with a shower inside the bath but the fan was very noisy (and hadn't been cleaned for a while).

Also a persistent noise present at night - may be due to an air-condtioner outside?

And agree that the stair carpet needs replacing - quite worn in places.

So a good location, pleasant staff in Reception for the AM and at the next door Phoenix Hotel, but KG Hotel needs some renewal work.

Room Tip: Book early.

Great service! Very kind and warm-hearted owner.
When we were disappointed about the family room in the basement, the owner gave us two very nice rooms at the third floor the next day. She also gave us a lot of tips on city trips.

I only stayed one night in a standard room at 66 pounds. I ended up on the top floor which was a result of booking a week prior to arrival. It was my fault and certainly gave me exercise, dragging my suitcase up those multiple flights of stairs; the offer was made for the porter to take my luggage up once he was off his break but I needed items from the suitcase so did it myself. I was told the next morning by the lady at the desk that she threw in a continental breakfast only because she felt bad I was given the top floor (even though their website states all rooms include continental so that confused me). The plus was that this standard room included a shower. Bottomline is that I give it a so-so rating and if you can't find any other place to stay, you could do a lot worse.

Hotel was well located and easy to find and the setting was peaceful however on arrival we had to use the reception of the hotel next door (Phoenix) and the 2 girls on reception where not the most helpful. The entrance hallway was shabby with worn carpets and this theme continued into the room. The room was in need of some decorating but was clean and the beds were very comfy so enjoyed a good night's sleep. When we checked out the following morning the reception in this hotel was open and the service was much improved. Overall not a bad hotel if you get a good rate (we paid £75) otherwise not worth the money.

I wanted a super cheap hotel, as an alternative to a hostel. This was the highest rated which cost <£120, in actuality I paid £66 for a single room for a Saturday night.

Good location for central London and Paddington station; accessible via Queensway or Bayswater. No problems getting in at night, reception closes 6pm so you have to press the buzzer, and let in by the sister hotel next door.

Having read some of the reviews I was expecting a rabbit cage sized room, it was actually a perfectly acceptable size for a single room. No noise street level at night, area seemed safe.

My only two (minor) complaints 1) The pillows were pretty uncomfortable, too hard for me 2) The staff in the sister hotel (BEST WESTERN Phoenix Hotel) weren't great as they managed to give me two wrong sets of directions. That said, the lady/attendant who I met in this hotel the next day (after reception was open) was fantastic. Ultimately, if you want a cheap place to crash this is a decent choice.

Great location. Booked a twin room - given a room with one bed which was placed against a wall and a minuscule bathroom. Staff just shrugged and implied we were lucky to be in London. We had to find another hotel at short notice - turned into an expensive holiday as Kensington Gardens refused to refund money despite not fulfilling the requirements of our booking.
