I have stayed in this hotel twice in recent months and I found it to be quite pleasant. I had read the reviews before I stayed and was very apprehensive about it but I found it very clean, warm and the staff very friendly. The rooms were very spacious and the beds very comfortable. It was a very short distance from Camden Town and Chalk Farm tube station was only down the road. I would have no problem in recommending this hotel to anyone. On the first occasion I stayed on the 2nd floor and on the second occasion I stayed on the fifth floor, both of which were perfectly good. I have no idea what the basement rooms are like so I cant comment on them. I had a very pleasant stay and will stay there again.

Room Tip: ask for room on the upper floors

This is the kind of hotel to stay in if you can get a special deal. It's in a nice part of London, not too far from Chalk Farm tube station. There's free internet, the rooms are quite big for London and it's reasonably clean. It's obviously seen better days as a hotel, and could do with a renovation but I imagine that would put the price up.

This hotel is in a fairly nice area, with a number of pubs and restaurants close by - you'll need them.

If coming by tube, it's a 10 minute uphill walk from Chalk Farm station or a couple of stops on the number 31 bus. Otherwise, there's a very small car park, which is charged at £10 pn

Hotel is very dated - not really up to the mark for a London hotel. Lots of dark wood, brown painted door frames, floral carpets and pine bedroom furniture. Access is via a small revolving door that I had trouble getting my wheeled suiter through. I saw someone in a wheelchair so can only assume that they must have been brought in round the back.

No English staff, so you'll have to muddle through trying to understand pigeon English. Fine if you speak Spanish though.

Rooms - mine was a twin.. Bathroom was grubby but good shower over bath. Large aluminium framed window allowed bad draught through ineffective old lightweight curtains. I had to use two duvets to keep warm at night. A small fan heater was provided to supplement the wholly inadequate radiator. I was at the back of the hotel and had a delightful view over the kitchen vents and a council estate. Just lovely.

Breakfast - pizza and chips? Bizarre. The usual English breakfast was available though only with scrambled egg, poached and fried being by special order. Mostly cold.

Dinner - they run a hot buffet of various congealed concoctions. There is also a rather pricey (given the state of the place) a la carte menu You can't charge to your room unless you pre-authorise a card. In any event, payment is bizarre - instead of paying after your meal or charging to your room, you grab a menu, go to reception, tell them what you'd like, pay, receive a chit to take back ....... I gave up and went to the Chinese round the corner.

On the plus side, it was quiet at night. Maybe people found somewhere better to stay.

Myself and two colleges stayed here for three nights. The resultant food was terrible. And they did not car at all when we complained. The waiter was ignorant and staff in general were not friendly except the receptionist. The food was so salty that I drank a pint of water and the pudding was served still frozen. When the waiter was informed he said why? I said why what. He smiled and said he'd tell the chef. Nobody spoke to us again.
Shocking service. Never again.
Ps, the room I stayed in, had the window stuck open. Old aluminium single glazed window. Defiantly outdated.

Not happy :-(

It is rare to find a well-located hotel in London for less than £100 a night but this one was fine for the money! Yes, the decor is fairly tired and could do with upgrading, but for the money you can't go wrong with this hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful (again, a rarity in London!) and it's a leisurely 10 minute walk to Chalk Farm underground station which makes it very convenient for business or tourism. The sound proofing isn't great however - I heard some guy shouting and screaming at about 3am, but I suppose that isn't really the hotel's fault!

My boyfriend and i stayed here on a Saturday night as we were going to Camden for the evening. Location wise it was perfect we could easily walk to and from Camden (about 10 mins walk). The hotel is very dated and our room was hideous! We were in the basement, with no windows or natural light and a very small room. There was hair in the plug hole that had not been cleaned properly & a packet of half eaten crisps under the table. DO NOT HAVE BREAKFAST. Hairs in the serving dishes, cold food and very poor choice. We got this at a very cheap rate and as it was very close to camden it did the job but we will not be staying here again.

Room Tip: Ask for one not on the Lower Ground Floor

This hotels certainly not the best, however it is generally cheap and chearful. The staff are generally very helpful and the rooms are clean. The bed had seen better days and you could hear the mattress going ping when I moved. but what do you expect in london at that price.
On occasions Brittania increase the prices at this hotel and when they do it is not the place to go
The breakfast is always very good and good value. However, the evening meal is a bit variable, they offer a carvery in the evening and it is not worth booking in advance. I suggest you wait to see what is on offer as they often have better deals available.

Room Tip: The rooms in the bsement have no windows but they have been refurbished and have better tv's.
