“Better than we expected”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 February 2014

Just spent 2 nights at this Hotel which our children booked through Groupon, we were very apprehensive after reading so many negative comments on this Hotel but we had a fab time, we had a basement room which we were dreading but it was fine & we had a window, bedding & towels very clean, bathroom needed some updating but it was clean. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice of cereal, fruit & hot food, our cooked breakfast was hot enough & everything to pick from, bacon, sausage, black pudding, fried bread, hash browns, mushrooms, scrambled or fried eggs, beans & tomatoes..what more could you ask for. Evening meal was not great but again you had a choice from buffet style. When we arrived they brought a bottle of Presecco in ice bucket & 2 champagne glasses to our room which we really enjoyed. All in all I would defo go back to this hotel if I could have the same room...Hotel does need updating but I am glad we had a nice room.

The staff were friendly and the breakfast was good. The building is old looking and a bit dated. Only complaint was the bath taps which looked like 1960s and well used. Overall average. Bit awkward to get in with the revolving door.

I genuinely find it difficult to find something nice to stay about this hotel. As I walked past the hotel I could tell I was going to regret this, the building looked shabby. We waited a good few minutes to be seen by reception in a lovely looking lobby. It all seemed ok until we walked to our room (no. 12).

There were rooms that were being renovated that absolutely reeked ans stunk out the hallway. We stepped into the room and I was immediately disappointed. The carpet was stained, the furniture dated, the room was tiny, bathroom floor was dirty, mildew on the windows and there was a huge gap in the window where an annoyingly freezing cold draft came through. Just pitiful.

To my surprise the basin and toilet were clean and there were fresh towels and linen. I dare not take my socks off during the stay because of the state of the floor

Not only was the room a shame but the breakfast was a ridiculous £10.50! We obviously declined and went elsewhere however my friend went for a spirit and coke in the evening and was charged £7. Atrocious prices really.

Overall I will not stay at this hotel again as it was a sham. Completely displeased and do not recommend.

Thank you for your review,

I am sorry that you have been disappointed with your stay at Britannia Hotel. All feedback is treated with the utmost seriousness and we will investigate your comments with a mind to improve our service to all our guests.

I aknowledge what you say but I disagree when you complain about the carpet which is clean and follow standards.

I am surprised that you have been dissapointed with our breakfast price £10.50, which includes a buffet you eat as much as you want.

Kind regards

stayed here on a wowcher deal....upon checking in there was a problem with the wowcher code. the staff were very helpful and kind. We finally booked in only to be put into a twin room...once again, staff lovely, and we were upgraded to an exec room on 5th floor, which was much quieter and bigger. The hotel itself is a typical chain hotel, with tatty upholstery and dingy bathroom, but it was comfy and clean. Good place to stay to explore London although the tube is necessary, but easy, to get into the city.

well done to the reception staff!! :)

we stayed here for one night on a groupon deal ,like most reviews the décor and furnishings are a bit out dated, but it is in a ideal place if you want to head in to London for a show which we did.The staff are very friendly and helpful and Camden market is just a short walk away which is very interesting to.I stayed in a Britannia in January which was not good so was dreading staying here but I have no complaints and if I was to return to London to see a show I would keep this hotel in mind.

Room Tip: we had 311 which was ok just the curtains were hanging off the rail

stayed for a night at this hotel as a special deal with breakfast and a bottle of wine on the first night....we had room 313 on 3rd floor, the furnishings are quite dated and a little shabby and the carpet is the same and the two chairs in the room are quite stained !!! .....but we found that the bedding and towels were spotless and that the bathroom although again a little shabby was clean, the water was hot and plentiful but it did ""steam up "" as there was no extractor fan. we did have to ask for tea and coffee satchets as none had been left in the room but they did arrive quickly along with the wine. the rooms on the front are a bit noisy and the old style metal windows are difficult to open and do steam up quickly...... I have to say that there was a slight smell in t.he corridor on the 3rd floor but NOT in our room.. the bar area has furniture that has really seen better days and overall the hotel could do with a good refit....... breakfast was plentiful with hot and cold food on offer,but...... tinned tomatos,,tinned mushrooms, tinned fruit but fresh crossoints...tea and coffee in flasks. very basic...reception staff were really lovely and helpful with directions to different places and bus routes....... so overall"""" MY""" personal experience is ... this is an ""average basic hotel"".. situated in a very good position and is almost exactly what you should expect for the price you pay..in the london area

Room Tip: rooms on the back might be quieter traffic wise better views from higher floors,
