“Breakfast chef needs to go back to basics”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

Just stayed one night in this hotel. Room was adequate and bar stayed open late. However my colleagues warned me about the breakfast. Didn't think it was possible to a get a breakfast buffet quite so wrong. Didn't try sausage, egg, mushroom as they looked inedible. What I did try was pretty bad and croissant I resorted to was stale. Apple juice was ok!
Next time I work at the roundhouse I will try somewhere else.

We have just stayed here for two nights. We read the reviews before booking but thought it was worth the risk as there were as many good as bad. Ignore the good ones. So the good points first. It's close to the northern line so is a great base for sightseeing in Central London . The area seems nice enough so you don't feel unsafe or anything like that. The staff are friendly and did their best with what they have. This is where the problem lies. The hotel looks to be late 60s vintage and to be honest a lot of the interior fittings are probably original. The whole thing is just tired. Don't get me wrong the bedding and towels were spotless as we're the toilet and sink. The rest of it needs total refurbishment. We were given a room which turned out to be on the lower ground floor. It was like a furnace and as it was next to the pavement the small opening panel wasn't something you would want to leave open. The bed was broken and the mattress was totally gone. Not being the complaining type we thought oh well and just got on with it. After a sleepless night we complains and asked to move room. The staff didn't seem surprised. We were then moved to the second floor which was a better room, but still very hot with only a small window. The bed seemed better but by the end of our second night my back was ruined. Breakfast was ok but wired. Full English buffet with salad and chips.....the croissants had been around for a while but it was ok. If you must stay, avoid the ground floor but my advice would be to go somewhere else unless you know some serous money has been spent.

Room Tip: Avoid the ground floor.

This hotel was comfortable and clean. It is in a great area and was relatively close to a tube station and great bus access. It is old and probably needs a freshen up. No air conditioning - and we happened to get to london in a mild heat wave! (Not the hotels fault!) it had a weird smell always present the whole time we were there.

The advantages first. Great location. A 5-10 minute walk to nearest underground station, in London center in less than a 1/2 hour. Neighborhood around hotel has lots of restaurants, cafés, shops... Staff very friendly and helpful.

The disadvantages. The hotel is in need of a major renovation. Everything seems old and worn out. While I didn't find it disgustingly dirty, I felt like it could have been a lot cleaner.

The star rating is WAY above similarly rated hotels in London.

Run down rooms. Broken tile in the bathroom. Mold in the bathroom. Beat up furniture. Peeling wall paper. Ripped and stained carpets.

No air conditioning (avoid in a heat wave.)

Room Tip: Go to another hotel.

Sorry but this hotel was not cheap at £149 for a single room without breakfast. The carpet was dirty and stained. The bathroom fitments were disgraceful. There were dirty plates in the corridors left from the previous guests. Curtains were off the rails, coffee table was badly stained, wallpaper coming off the walls. Plumbing noisey, I could go on and on. Staff were not helpful. Sheets and towels were clean but that is the only good thing I can comment on.

Room Tip: I was told all rooms were the same. No air con.

We came here after I had to have surgery in London during Wimbledon. When we arrived we were dismayed to find that we would need to be transferred to another hotel due to the busy period, but after consulting the staff of my condition they immediately gave us a room and were very helpful and friendly to us.

The room was clean and tidy - no complaints, yes this is not the most modern hotel but the price does reflect that.

The manager was fantastic and caring - so pleased we chose this hotel.
