I purchased a Groupon voucher which provided a glass of prosecco, canapes, starter, main course, dessert and coffee for two people, the face value was supposed to be £141.00 but when I received the bill the value of the meal was actually only £85.00. Lesson learnt don't believe the hype.
Having said that my daughter and I had a pleasant dinner.
As we arrived a doorman helped us from the cab, another doorman greeted us at the hotel door and guided us to the bar for pre-dinner drinks.
The bar staff were also friendly and helpful, as there had not been anyone at the restaurant reception desk at our arrival I had been unable to advise anyone that we had arrived, but the bar staff took care of that.
The bar area is quite gothic in appearance. As the bar and restaurant are below ground level there are no windows and so they are dark, with mood lighting scattered around, but they are safe as lights highlight steps and doorways. We did find that the bar was a little cold though.
As soon as the time of our reservation arrived a waiter came to the bar to greet us and lead us to our table.
We had a selection of three canapes, which were tasty and beautifully presented. We followed these with a pigeon breast and a salmon starter. Again these were very nice and the presentation was excellent. We each chose the chicken burger as our main course because we were restricted for time and felt these would be quicker for the kitchen. The chicken breast was perfectly cooked and had flavour! Something that can be missing from a grilled breast. The burger bun was a little dry however, not toasted enough to be toasted but too dry to simply be warm.
For pudding I had a selection of ice cream and sorbets. They were pleasant but I think shop bought rather than made on site. My daughter had a cheese board. The cheeses were nice, although a mature cheddar would have been better than a mild one and the biscuits should not have been as strongly flavoured as they clashed with the cheeses.
We didn't have the coffee as we had to leave to get to the theatre and roadworks nearby meant that traffic was terrible that evening.
The staff were excellent throughout the hotel, polite, attentive without being intrusive and helpful.
I would go back when I have more time to enjoy the other dishes on the menu.
