The Montcalm is a very pleasant hotel in a quiet area about 2 minutes walk from Marble Arch. The hotel has rooms on both sides of the road. We stayed at the smaller location which has a small cafe, but of course one is able to use the facilities of the bar and restaurant opposite. The welcome was warm and helpful and the staff were excellent and could not do enough to help us. Our bedroom was on the lower ground floor so therefore no view from the window, but this was compensated by a very modern, comfortable and well equipped bedroom. The breakfast was a help yourself style and was not very exciting but adequate . The fact that the hotel is so well placed for Oxford Street was a bonus. We would certainly stay there again.

i must admit when reading reviews of hotels you do start to panic.
and especially for my wife's birthday i was a bit nervous. However rooms are not small . about the same as a premier inn size .but the quality is of a very high standard I would suggest 4 star to 5 star.

Excellent service and nice clean rooms . Absolutely ideal for Oxford street/marble arch and bond street
4th floor rooms are nice and airy . Dont be put off by the negative reviews. just ask when booking for a nice room not in the basement. The only thing is the bar prices are not cheap .but stay here especially iof you get a good discount offer

My Mother and I stayed at the Montcalm for one night at the beginning of February. From the moment the doorman opened the taxi door, to checking in, to room service - all was faultless. The room was excellent (I think it was 212), roomy bathroom, super bed linen, furnishings etc The bathroom is separated from the bedroom by a sheer glass screen and even when we couldn't find the switch for the blind that comes down, for privacy, after ringing reception a charming member of staff was quickly dispatched to show us where it was and also pointed out a few extra details about the room we hadn't noticed. We were aiming to go shopping that afternoon but the room was so pleasant (and quiet) we stayed in and had a room service lunch. Served with charm. There are nice touches such as abundant bowls of apples for guests located by the lift but by far the most outstanding element to the hotel are the staff, who we found were exemplary, polite and charming. They couldn't do enough to help. I don't think we were just lucky with the Montcalm I feel this is a true 5* hotel and they work hard to maintain their standards. Would definitely stay again when next in Town.

Room Tip: Can only judge our double room which was on second floor, excellent room.

We paid a bit more and booked a Club Room for 2 nights, and it was a lovely room and the hotel was lovely too. Continental breakfast was very nice and the service was good and the breakfast restaurant was in a lovely room in very stylish surroundings. The only thing that I found a little annoying was I heard a gentleman complaining about his (standard) room been too small and was demanding to be moved, so the hotel manager upgraded him to a club room foc, which was very nice of him, however, if he wanted a bigger room he should of paid extra like we did and booked (& paid) for the club room in the first place! We could all be tight and pay as little as possible and then get upgraded for free but what about the decent guests that have paid full wack? Anyway, rant over… a very nice boutique hotel in a perfect location and we would definitely stay here again

We stayed here last week for one night. First impression was good with attentive staff making the checking-in process simple but professional. Our room wasn't ready initially but we were offered tea/coffee while we waited. Unfortunately it was downhill from there. We were given a room in the basement, not our preference, but this was a 5 Star Hotel so no worries yet! When we were shown the room I initially thought it must be a mistake, it seemed no bigger than a large cupboard. The room was very very small, with a tiny window that provided little natural light. The whole ambience of the room was gloomy and dark with just enough room to manoeuvre around each side of the bed. The bathroom also was very dark, no bath (remember this was supposed to be a 5* Hotel) but with a shower cubicle that had no lighting – very dark! Returning late in the evening after a show, looking forward to good nights sleep was, in retrospect, over optimistic to say the least. It would seem that our room was underneath the main corridor of the floor above and consequently it was very noisy and we had very little sleep. Breakfast was taken in a room on the ground floor. It was fairly cramped with little leg room at the tables. The breakfast fare was fairly average and probably sufficient for a 3* Hotel but woefully inadequate for a hotel marketing itself as 5*. The only thing that was pleasing was the staff, who were very attentive, but woefully under strength during breakfast. In summary our experience was a bad one, the room far too small and the noise during the night dreadful. If it had marketed itself as 3* hotel, fine, but creating bedrooms in areas where guests will be disturbed by noise and unable to sleep is unforgivable.

Room Tip: Don't accept rooms in the basement!
