Business trip. Didn't want to go overboard on budget, found this, photo's looked good, but more importantly, the location was key.

What did i get?

Arrived quite late (8pm), nice foyer and reception staff. Bar looked good, but didn't go in.

Check in was polite and friendly.

And then the lift...... what's going on with that? It was like stepping back in time. As the tiny box rattled upwards, i had visions of me falling out into a 1950's film set, only to find i was involved in some sort of quantum leap.

But i didn't

The room was small, warm, looked out onto a roof and some other large buildings. The furnishing made me think i had ended up in the 1950's, but then the flat screen TV set reminded me i hadn't.

No iron and ironing board, had to ask for one. Come on....

So i headed out, for food and some drinks. Arrived back at midnight, slept and left at 7.30am.

It was a room for me, and it felt like one. OK for the price range, but certainly wouldn't select this hotel from a list.

Thank you for your review.

I am pleased to hear that you found our location excellent and the check in polite and friendly.
Our décor being classic, is commended by many reviews on Tripadvisor, and our Iron and ironing board is, as in most hotels, on request, even though we have a trouser press in every room. I am disappointed that this was not of your like, but maybe you can return to a club or suite room on your next visit, where the décor is more luxurious.

I hope to see you again soon at The Rathbone.

Kind Regards,
Miguel Silva

We were in London for a family get-together last weekend. Four of our party were staying in the Rathbone Hotel - a last minute, unknown choice which could not have been better. The staff, the room, food, service, everything was second to none. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking for a central location, 5 mins walk to Oxford St, British Museum, close to many bars, restaurants and cafes and ideal for the West End too. Will be back there for sure.

Hotel was fine. Service was great, they went to great effort to get us the drinks we wanted at the bar and ensure that everything was just right for the Bloody Mary - and it was pretty good.

Room was clean but a bit old fashioned, but I liked the magazines to read.

They were friendly and welcoming and breakfast was good and the reception staff helpful and welcoming.

Excellent location with a good foyer. Concierge was not friendly but reception staff were good. Matchbox size room with dated furniture. No provision for charging the mobile telephone and one needed to go down for an adaptor. No drinking water provided in the room.
Continental breakfast was average and the extra charge for an English breakfast is not worth it.
The excellent location made up for the other short comings. Stay here if you have work in the City of Westminister or find a better property.

Thank you for your review.

I am pleased to hear that you found our location excellent and our reception staff good. We have a range of room sizes, which varies from the single room, perfect for a single business traveller, to our fantastic suites, very spacious and prepared to accommodate special occasions.
We have a complimentary bottle of mineral water on arrival to every guest, had you popped the question to our helpful front office team, they would have been delighted to indicate where is it situated, as well as taken the adaptor to your room.
I am sorry to hear that we fell short on your expectations regarding the breakfast, which surprises me, since we often receive very nice comments about it.

I am looking forward to your next visit to The Rathbone Hotel.

Kind Regards,
Miguel Silva

Having stayed at this London hotel a few times in the past had no hesitation in booking again for a short visit. Went for a suite too as wanted it to be special. On arrival, although a speedy booking service we were not offered a complimentary drink on arrival which was advertised. The room was lovely. The washbasin in the bathroom was cracked and the bath did not drain properly so when having a shower you were stood in a few inches of water! The TV although quite a large screen was very poor picture on some of the main channels, almost unwatchable. We also had to do a bit of work and the wi-fi was appalling kept dropping out. Air conditioning very noisy and had to turn it off during the night but then we were freezing in the early hours of the morning. Would we revisit? Probably not, think there is better value and amenities in serviced apartments.

Stayed for a couple of nights. Staff pleasant and foyer area gives you a good impression. But unfortunately when you access your room it's a let down. The room is dated , bedside cabinets are falling too bits at the bottom. Also when you sit on the bed it moves showing a horrible stain hidden on the carpet. Bathroom needed some re-grouting . Taps and towel rail had lost their metal coating and infact looked quite grubby. Although this maybe due to the poor housekeeping staff trying to make a tired bathroom look acceptable. Also as you enjoy their quite good shower you have to the right of you, a grubby looking window. Also be warned if you use the bar and order yourself rather than being seated you will still have to pay a service charge. There are plenty of bars, pubs and restaurants within the area that were fantastic. Finally be aware that they take your payment details on checking in and hold this. Also when checking out take Payment.5 days later still waiting for held money to be returned. This may be a hotel policy but would of been nice to be informed when booking or checking in or out.

Thank you for your feedback and of course we are disappointed to read your review.

We have identified the room in which you occupied and would welcome an opportunity to speak with you. The points you raised are being addressed and rest assured that this is not our standard. Service charge is discretionary and will be removed without question should any guest request us to do so, I will arrange to refund such charges to you. The preauthorisation taken at check-in is utilised or cancelled on departure and unfortunately the guests bank is responsible for these held funds. It is difficult for us to advise on this as banks differ in their policies.

I am sorry that your experience was anything less than completely satisfactory and I hope that you will allow an opportunity to discuss this together.

Regards,

Miguel Silva
