“Lovely hotel, fantastic location”
Reviewed 6 September 2011

We arrived during a downpour to a very friendly welcome and check in. Hotel is quite posh but welcome was very down to earth and friendly. The hotel is in a fantastic location, quite literally spitting distance to Buckingham Palace. Lift to upper floors is very small so one couple and a suitcase and its full!
We stayed on the 4th floor in a Superior king and the room although very small was dominated by the bed which was v large and very comfy. The bathroom was small as well but ha everything you needed including bath and brilliant shower. The hotel was very quiet so we had a great nights sleep and the breakfast next morning was very good. If you pay at reception you can get a special rate of £12 each for full English.
All in all i would definately stay again as the service was very attentive and polite without being obtrusive.

Room Tip: Pay at check in for a special rate for full English breakfast at a bargain rate of £12 pp

Perfect service- no exaggeration!! Super location, great bar!! This hotel our favorite. We stay here often. The rooms are small but very well appointed and heck if you spend a lot of time in your room while you are in London-well that is just wrong :)

Seriously The Rubens is the perfect English Hotel!

This hotel is right opposite the mews of Buckingham Palace. This is the second time we have been and it is a really nice hotel. The staff make you feel comfortable in the hotel and they will go out of their way to help you should you have a problem.
It is quite central as Victoria station and underground are a short walk away.
The rooms are very nice and all different. We have eaten in the library restaurant and cannot fault it. Will certainly go back again.

having telephoned to book afternoon tea for 4 people, AND specifically asking the price, I was outraged to discover that the qouted price did not include VAT.
This bumped the bill considerably, PLUS service charge.
The tea wasn't even that special....

I have now stayed at this hotel a good number of times - in fact I always stay here when I visit London for business. It is my home away from home in London, the best service - always. Friendly staff and always willing to help. The food in the Library Restaurant is very good and the breakfast is outstanding. However the rooms are small - I will not recommend the standard single rooms - they are more like shoe boxes. But the style of the rooms and the decor is charming. One of the good things also about this hotel is the central location.

Room Tip: Go for a supior or executive room

We stayed once again at the Rubens Hotel for an anniversary celebration weekend in London. We are happy to report that the high standards are undiminished, and the Rubens continues to be a top-notch, traditional, professionally run, 4-star hotel.

The location is excellent, slightly away from the hurly-burly of the West End, but very close to tube (Victoria) and with plentiful taxis and buses passing outside. The hotel is within easy walking distance of three Royal Parks, and Trafalgar Square is just about 20-25 minutes walk away through the park (St James's), if a bit of fresh air and exercise is called for.

The hallmark of the Rubens is the superb service and staff attitude, which is undoubtedly 5-star+. The staff manage to maintain just the right balance between friendliness and courtesy, and are unfailingly responsive and on the ball. Food and beverages are excellent, notably the wide choice at breakfast and the carvery dinner, provided with excellent service in very comfortable and pleasant surroundings. No wonder many Americans like this hotel -- there is no trace of the "I hate my job" undercurrent which is sadly all too familiar in the UK.

The Rubens has found the secret to providing that indefinable 'feel-good factor' to its clientele, which is why we, and no doubt many others, go back there each time that we stay in London.

Room Tip: Royal Mews view and King rooms are worth paying a bit extra for.

In spite of the absolutely perfect location, the service ALONE makes this place one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at! We were catered to our entire stay and just can't believe how superior the service was. Concierge service? Wow. Felt like we made forever friends with them all. Thank you for making our vacation so incredibly special!!!

Rooms are pretty small, but the beds are so comfy! Totally quiet and the restaurant service was great!
