Initially booked for a group of 5 people (family and friends) in the same room (2 women and 3 teen agers) but it was booked by the hostel in 3 different rooms... We discussed with the staff (not very friendly) and waited in reception office until obtaining satisfaction... the room that we got (in annex) was pretty poor state, not so clean and not warmed; but quiet for sleeping.
No arrangement in the common bathroom, no place to put toilet bag or suspend clothes or towels, and no individual lamp near beds..; While a little of friendly development would make the more welcoming place... Location in London is good (near Natural History Museum, underground and buses very closely.
I don't even know where to begin.
Arriving at the Barkston Hostel we (my study group and I) realized that the Hostel was undergoing a renovation. The place was being repainted and everything was a mess!
We were living in rooms of 6 people and there was no bed light, only one light bulb in the middle of the room. Since we were girls, we were a bit disappointed that there was only a little mirror by the sink, and the lamp above the mirror didn't work.
During the stay, the showers were out of order one day and generally, the water was usually quite cold. When going to the toilet, we weren't allowed to throw the toilet paper in the toilet (this made the toilets smell a bit!)
Okay, the last thing that I have to add, is the night we were leaving the Hostel. The receptionist had orders taxis for us (we were 19 people in total). The first taxi to arrive was an unauthorized taxi, and 6 people left with him. The rest of us waited for a long time, and just before leaving to get another taxi, the SAME taxi arrived againg to pick the rest of us up. We only had 10 minutes until the airport bus was leaving from Victoria Station, so we had to get all 13 (!!!) into the taxi, including bags etc. It was horrific! Never have I had such a nerve-racking drive!
I would never recommend this Hostel to anyone. Period
Quite poor customer service. They do not even have lockers for your stuff. Extremely small dorms. It is like your are sleeping with your roomate and not in different bed. There was a lot of wall painting when i was there so there were lots of workers in the hostel. Great inconvenience.
No hot water for one day for shower. On other days, water is either too hot or too cold. Water pressure is so low, it's like showering in the rain. No table in private room. Comparing with another same level of accommodation standard, Hipotel in Paris is cheaper and better.
