...and the surprise is very, very good Thai food. Okay, it's not the newest thing under the sun, a boozer doing Thai cuisine, but what's rare is to see it done with such care. The delicate seared tuna, the delicious salted squid, some excellent beef and asparagus skewers...the kitchen is producing dishes that are familiar yet fresh. No, it's not the most authentic cuisine, but the pub is beautiful and the service is friendly. This is easily your best nice lunch/casual dinner/food with drinks option in the area. Comfy leather sofas, warm wood and cool lighting, decent selection of beer and wine, and fair prices (for London, mind). Not a destination restaurant, but one you'd be happy to call a local.
