“Good, but not special any more”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2014

The food is good, and the location excellent. The chef we had was very nice, but I think the "fun" has gone out of Benihana these days, the chefs don't seem to make the effort to entertain so much any more. Perhaps it was because the restaurant was pretty empty, or that it was a lunchtime? We had the £29 lunch special, which appeared to be very similar to the regular £19-£21 menu, so not sure it's worth the extra. All in all, still a good restaurant, and despite other reviews, I thought the food was of good quality (I had the steak which he cooked blue rare as I like it, and salmon). I just wonder if the place has lost its "raison d'etre". Service was excellent and fast, but as I said, the place was empty with only 3 stations running at the time. This restaurant is best when its full and noisy, with the chefs making a big show, and cooking good food.

“Not impress at all”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 March 2014

For such a high price tag I would expect much more. The food itself is average, although the preparation is a fun little signature show. For £30-50 the meat is from Scotland, and it is obviously not that good, fish is also very average. Wine selection is pricey. In general, service is slow, and the place is very smelly, with no proper ventilation system in place. Would not recommend.

“High price for low quality food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2013 via mobile

We had to literally chase after a waiter to get a drink!

The chefs arrived at each of the tables and began to cook on the grill in front of us. The display was quite good, it was just a pity the food could not live up to the tricks which were put in to cooking it!

The starters were average and the chef kept piling different things on our plates without explaining what they were. This really irritated us as a lot of us do not eat certain things and although we told him this he simply carried on.

The main I chose was steak and asked for it well done, however, I had to physically put it back on the grill myself due to the steak being only medium. I repeated I wanted it well done and the chef told me it was! Nevertheless, I ensured he cooked it a lot more.

The steak was tasteless and the rice was terrible, so much so that I did not eat my main at all.

The chef decided to then cook beansprouts although the whole table said they did not want any! Then he simply placed some on my plate although I said no!

This put me off even more and ended the night for me.

The bill came and true to form with these restaurants the only thing that seemed to arrive straight away. The overall price was a joke and not worth it at all, overpriced nonsense!

“Very poor service and overpriced for what you get”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2013

Service was very slow. Had to chase for drinks many times throughout the night, for the price you pay the quality of food was poor. There are better places to eat in London.

“An expensive mistake”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2013

We came for a friend's 30th birthday. The service was very slow - drinks had to be repeatedly requested from the waiters and it wasn't even busy. The starter included a Japanese onion soup which tasted of nothing more than MSG in some warm water. The chef cooked each item one after the other so that at any one point in time, you were only eating one thing. Following all the meat was the vegetables and this meant that after eating a plate of meat, you were then served a bunch of flavourless vegetables. The chef overcooked our steak which we paid A LOT of money for. After making them aware of our experience, all the manager was willing to give us was ONE FREE COCKTAIL (there were 17 of us) and no service charge (which we wouldn't have paid for anyway). The manager had the cheek to doubt the validity of our complaint because the chef was giving a different story! The food is sorely over-priced, I wouldn't come back and I wouldn't recommend coming here. There are many other restaurants in London that cost less and taste better.
