“not bad, wouldnt rush back”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2014

I ate here with some business associates recently, the concept is that you sit around a grill and once you have made your order the chef will cook your selection in front of you.
I wasnt paying, but if I was then i would be slightly horrified at the price, I chose a chicken and beef combination, which was 36 pounds, sure enough the chef prepared the grill and cooked our food and yes he was very entertaining and did a few tricks, but the actual food was actually fairly ordinary, and i have made tastier stirfries!. You wont leave here hungry, but you certainly wont be blown away by it either, and when you factor in the prices its a bit of a let down.

“Not hurrying back”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2014

I guess I should have taken the lack of customers as a stronger signal. Mistakenly, I took the view that most restaurants around the city are largely empty weekday evenings. Was underwhelmed by the ‘Spicy Rock N Roll’ and ‘Sashimi Combination’ I ordered, with the tuna in particular, disappointing. Whilst the service was friendly, quick and efficient, this didn’t make up for a poor meal. On the basis of this visit, if you are looking for Japanese in the city, there are much better choices.

“Yummy food and drink :)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 March 2014

Visited on Saturday 8th March having booked a table for 4. WE sat in an open area where another couple joined us. Each table area can accommodate up to 8 people. Our chef was entertaining with all the flips and fire tricks. Waiter was helpful in choosing items of the menu and the lychee sake was really good. The sauce on the Benihana salad was tooo good, could it a bowl of it!! And the Japanese Onion Soup was the perfect starter as part of the Speciality Dinners. Food was yummy and went down well! Just beware of the fire volcano, you will need to sit back. Can't wait to go back :)

“Good, but not special any more”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2014

The food is good, and the location excellent. The chef we had was very nice, but I think the "fun" has gone out of Benihana these days, the chefs don't seem to make the effort to entertain so much any more. Perhaps it was because the restaurant was pretty empty, or that it was a lunchtime? We had the £29 lunch special, which appeared to be very similar to the regular £19-£21 menu, so not sure it's worth the extra. All in all, still a good restaurant, and despite other reviews, I thought the food was of good quality (I had the steak which he cooked blue rare as I like it, and salmon). I just wonder if the place has lost its "raison d'etre". Service was excellent and fast, but as I said, the place was empty with only 3 stations running at the time. This restaurant is best when its full and noisy, with the chefs making a big show, and cooking good food.
