My husband and I both thought this tour was great! This is a very fast-paced day, and the Windsor, Stonehenge, and Oxford tour was accurately described by our tour guide Charlotte as a "taster" day. You could easily spend a day in each of these places, but this was our first time in the UK and we wanted to be able to see all of these places and really only had a day to do it in. Our guide Charlotte was exceptional, very organized, very knowledgeable about all of the places we visited and made the day very enjoyable overall. We had just a little over an hour in Windsor, just enough time to tour the castle (excluding Queen Mary's Dolls' Houses), grab lunch and be back at the bus. At Stonehenge we had about 45 minutes, again just enough time to walk around the monument, grab a souvenir in the gift shop, and use the restroom before leaving. In Windsor we had the option of going on a 30 minute walking tour with the tour guide, or we could go on our own. We decided to go on the short walking tour and it was great - we got to see a number of the different university buildings and our tour guide pointed out a lot of points of interest for Harry Potter fans. After the walking tour we then had about 30 minutes to tour the area on our own before getting back on the bus.
The only negative to this experience was the pick-up and drop-off. We booked this tour knowing that we would have to take a short 10 minute walk to a nearby hotel to get picked up. The bus was nearly 20 minutes picking us up, then once we got to the station it was complete chaos. The guide that picked us up explained that the tour company was picking people up from all over the city, we would then all be going to the bus station where we would get organized into our actual tour groups and get onto our buses. The tour guide also did a nice job of making sure we all knew where to go and which group we were in. She then told us that we would have about 15 minutes before the buses would leave... "Have a coffee or tea, grab breakfast, use the bathroom, etc..." We arrived at the station at approximately 8:40, expecting that we had a few minutes. My husband went to the restroom and in the minute and a half that he was gone our guide showed up to collect our group and walk us out to the bus... we definitely did not have 15 minutes, in fact we didn't have 2!
The drop-off is something that you also need to be aware of. While Evan Evans does pick-ups from all over London, the individual bus that you are on will only make approximately 3 or 4 stops to drop people off and you are responsible for getting back to your hotel from wherever they leave you. Although it might have said this somewhere in the information when we booked the tour I think they need to highlight this a little better. The closest drop-off for us was all the way across the city and involved a 10-15 minute walk to the metro and then a 10-15 minute ride on the metro.
Overall we really enjoyed this tour and would book with Evan Evans again. I think it is important to keep in mind if you are booking this specific tour that you do NOT get a lot of time at each place.
