“Very good hotel”
Reviewed 8 June 2014 via mobile

I really like this hotel , very modern and chic. Great sized rooms , free internet, it is a train ride from the city, but if you are confident with the train system all is good. We liked the green emphasis and the clean funky trendy environment , it's a hip and happening hotel.

Hey Maheramanda,
Thanks for your review! It seems you really appreciated our style at a steal, it's great to see you are a fan. We love being hip & happening!
Top tip: we have a number of Live at Aloft music events set up throughout the year - they are really cool to attend should you be in the area again in the future! The next one is on June 20th.
Have an easy breezy day,

We stayed here as we were going to an event at the O2. Fabulous looking building within 2 or 3 mins of Prince Regent DLR station. The check in was speedy, friendly & informative. Our king size room had an excellent view across the water & was light, airy & modern. Bathroom well equipped with large powerful shower & bliss spa toiletries, the only problem was the size of the towels which were a bit on the small side for my 6ft plus boyfriend! After we got back from the O2 we took full advantage of the bar where there were plenty of comfy sofas, soft lighting & good music with fairly reasonable prices considering the location. My only criticism would he the signage as on arrival we struggled to find Reception. Unfortunately, we didnt have time to try out the pool or cooked breakfast skthough er could have grabbed something from the mini market style breafast bar where you choose cereals, padtries, fruit etc % pay as you go. Would definitely stay here again.

Hello there,
Thank you for your great review. I'm happy to see you enjoyed yourself! We are very proud of our stylish building - we think it's really cool and I am glad to see you agree. Our W XYZ bar is a really nice area to have a sip in the evening. We have recently also installed Chill & Charge tables in our bar and the Re:mix lounge so you can charge your smartphone wirelessly. Easy breezy!
We hope to see you again soon,

My partner and I stayed at Aloft London Excel for one night at the beginning of June. The location is great if you are traveling from City airport or attending a show/conference at the ExCel Centre, but not for much else - though it is within walking distance from the Emirates cable car that offers spectacular views of London over the Thames so do that if you have a chance! The hotel looks great, shiny and funky; the lounge and common areas are kept very clean and tidy, and are pleasant to sit in. Our room was of a good size and very clean. We asked whether we could have a river view room and were accommodated, though clearly they were not planning to offer us one otherwise (we mainly saw ExCEl Centre and the docks only partly on the side). The room was practical, with a nice desk and a little sofa type bed by the window. The bathroom with walk-in shower was elegant and clean. Our bed was very comfortable and faced a big TV screen. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room, a iron with iron board, hair dryer etc. The hotel has small but very nice spa and gym facilities; we enjoyed using the swimming pool, sauna and steam room in the morning, and we had them all to ourselves for the most part!
Now for the moaning: there was a fan in the bathroom that made a low muffled sound throughout the night, which I found superbly annoying. The big windows which make the room pleasantly bright by day make it bright also early in the morning, so make sure to close the shutters all the way! We tried to make coffee but there was only one coffee pack though this was a double room; the other was decaff - disappointed! The coffee was good though - it featured a funky invention for making filter coffee without a cafetiere. Unfortunately we were also only offered 2 milk portions, so we couldn't have a proper cup of tea the next morning; and only carton coffee cups were available, one of which was leaking -drinks not the strongest point! We were also surprised to be told that the closest area where we could have a bite was Canada Water or the hotel's own restaurant -don't believe them, though not many, there are some nice restaurants within walking distance. Finally, though the internet worked well and was free (hurray!) we were not told we needed a code to log on, so I spent a good 5 mins fidgeting with it and had to call reception to work it out. That's the moaning done.
I would recommend Aloft London Excel but only if you have a reason to be at that part of London.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with river view.

Hello there,
Thank you for your comments - one person's "moan" is another's room for improvement! We are upgrading our tea and coffee facilities at the moment and are looking to put ceramic cups in shortly, next to the paper to-go cups. It's great to read you were able to enjoy all our facilities.

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in.

The room was massive, with a separate lounge area. Everything was exceptionally clean and tidy. There were even two TVs!

The only downside was the lack of a bath, but the power shower made up for it (nearly).

The breakfast was excellent and there is also an opportunity to purchase a "grab and go" option for those people who don't have time for breakfast.

It is really close to the Excel but is also great for the City, being on the DLR and not too far from London City airport.

Hi Heather,
Wow, what a great review! Thank you so much for your kind words.
The vast majority of our rooms have a shower, but we do have a few with a bath tub. Next time you are over in East London, just give us a buzz and we'll see if we can perhaps set you up with a bath for a relaxing soak. Alternatively, you are always welcome for a dip in our Splash swimming pool!
See you soon,

We stayed for one night in April 2014. While I have attended a conference at the ExCel Centre previously, this stay was during a vacation, and is written from that perspective.

Rooms: a pleasant surprise. Clean and just very well-organized. The room is furnished simply, with all the essentials; they say that you can take anything in the room - and they mean it. Even though the rooms are not that large in terms of square footage, they are set up in such a way that it _feels_ very spacious, and not cramped at all. The windows extend from wall to wall, resulting in a lot of daylight, and an almost panoramic view.

Service: only really checked in and checked out, but the front desk was friendly, courteous, and efficient during our limited encounters.

Location: attached to the ExCel Centre, so obviously an excellent location if you're attending a convention or conference there. Even if you're not, it's connected Prince Regent DLR station by a walkway and a very short walk. It's a short DLR ride to Stratford or Canning Town, at which point you can speed into the centre of London on the Jubilee line. Although it's not easy to pop in and out of the hotel throughout the day if you'll be in the centre of town, it's a reasonably easy and quick commute for any visitor.

Value: can be totally hit and miss - the room rate varies _dramatically_ depending if there is a convention going on during that time. If there is, the rate may be much higher, or rooms may not be available at all. If not, the rates are very reasonable, and can be one of the best value propositions in London.

Overall: certainly more than what we expected. It's a lovely hotel whose rooms make great use of space, and as a result feel more comfortable than they should. The service is very good, as is the location. What may end up determining whether or not you stay is whether you need to make use of the convention centre, and if not, whether the rates are a good value for the nights you want to stay.

Hello Iclaprim,
Thank you for your review. You are very right in saying that although we are not located in Central London, our amazing transport links make it easy breezy to go over to the city centre.
Thank you for your nice comments on our rooms - our Refresh team is really proud of our sassy style and they work hard to keep everything sparkling clean!

Booked here overnight when going to Wembley Stadium. The hotel was virtually empty. Rooms are clean, bright, beds are very comfortable. 42" TV in the room, large shower, iron, board and tea making facilities. The view was over the back of the hotel (they charge more for dock view) but that wasn't a problem for us.

On the downside, hotel is reached from Prince Regent DLR Station. The dockland light railway was closed for the weekend when we visited. They had locked the TFL ticket machines behind the steel gates, meaning we couldn't buy our day travelcard to get back to Kings Cross on the Saturday. We walked the short route to Canning Town (about 1.5 miles). I don't recall any warning from the hotel about that particular problem. Not an issue for us but could cause problems for the less mobile.

Staff on check-in desk were very helpful. Didn't eat here, didn't even see the restaurant, only really there for a few hours to grab some sleep. Would revisit if prices are competitive, as there are lots of hotels in this area.

Hi Moorbius,
Thanks for leaving your comments here. I am happy to see you enjoyed our sassy style and our lovely beds. A good night's sleep is essential, it's great to hear you were able to get a good rest.
We normally have notice boards with travel advice up in our Front Desk area. There should have been replacement buses from Prince Regent to Canning Town during the DLR maintenance work. Please accept my apologies for our lack of communicating this to you clearly.
We hope to see you back soon!

I booked this as I wanted a venue with car parking (£14 a day) and close by an underground station (Prince Regent DLR was 3 min walk).

Alas, the underground was replaced by a bus service that weekend, so not the hotels fault!

The swimming pool was very exclusive looking, but the lack of proper male/female changing rooms was a bit odd. The shared sex cubicles didn't even have a door lock!

The nearby www.yi-ban.com restaurant was very nice - set meal with 3 courses for £22. The nearby pub "The Fox" was ok, but I wouldn't recommend eating there - the place was heaving with East End drinkers and the menu looked like microwave fare. Prices for drinks was also expensive - a German beer + a cider = £9.95. London prices!

Door hinges need "quieter" as all teh doors on my floor (5) seemed to slam shut, which made for a disturbed sleep. I had a view of the railway, but the noise didn't come into the room.

The room needs to get rid of he cardboard cups and replace them with china ones!

The full English breakfast is a buffet and they have complimentary newspapers, which wa good. The breakfast was good quality - I had the full English. Coffee was also nice.

London City Airport is nearby and you can walk along the river and watch the planes take off and land, which was great.

Hello there,
Thank you for leaving your review here. It's great to see you enjoyed your time with us. We will definitely be looking in to the doors - I understand this disrupted your rest, which is not something we want to happen.
It seem you have seen a lot of the Docklands during your stay. Next time, do try out our Fede Restaurant for dinner as well, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
We hope to see you again soon!
