“Great hotel for the O2 and London”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

The hotel was very easy to find (right next to the Prince Regent DLR station).
We received a nice warm welcome from the staff at check in, which was quick and easy.
Breakfast had a good selection, although I think it's slightly over priced.
Easy to get to the O2 and into London. Plan your day, if you only want one or two journeys on the trains, buy an Oyster card, cheaper than a day travel card.
We used the pool, sauna and steam room while we were there, which was very clean.
The bar was also slightly overpriced compared to other places in and around London and it became very rowdy during the evening, so we left as it wasn't very relaxing.
The surroundings are lovely and quiet and hardly heard any noise whilst in the room, except for what sounded like the aircon all night, which disrupted my sleep, even though I had switched it off. The blackout blinds work very well.
Nice touch to "be green" to select not to have your room serviced, giving you £5 to donate to charity or use against breakfast.

Hi Grendel_666_DH, Thank you for leaving your review here! Great to hear you easily found us and you experienced your arrival as welcoming, warm and efficient.
We recently reviewed our breakfast offer and are excited to learn you liked our selection but also take your comment into account about the pricing. How nice you had time to relax in our Splash, sauna and steam room during your stay! Our Re:mix bar is indeed a hotspot and a place where a lot of our guests like to mix & mingle so it can indeed become quite busy. I am sorry to hear that your sleep got disrupted by a sound that sounded like air conditioning although you switched it off. Let’s have a look at a different location of your room in the hotel upon your next visit which may help. Good to know you appreciate our Green Choice which helps our guests being conscious about the environment. Looking forward to having you stay with us again and wish you a easy breezy day! Stayed for three nights recently. Great looking hotel from the outside very modern and clean. Reception and bar very cool and again clean!! Check in went very smoothly and lots of car park spaces, although expensive at £14 for 24 hrs maybe there should be a reduced price for multiple nights stay!! Headed straight for the bar as it was happy hour to be welcomed by a great bar man who told us had only been there three weeks and looked nervous but competent in what he did!! Our first cocktail ordered from the menu and asked if we could add it too the room which our barman promptly went to do only to do be told by his co worker we had to pay cash as it was happy hour and we wouldn't get it at the reduced price. Us and our barman feeling confused exchanged a few glances and then while the co workers back was turned we were told this was rubbish by our barman and of course we could put it on our room!! Our barman then kindly offered to make our next cocktail according to our individual taste...very personal touch we felt!! But it all turned extremely awkward when the co worker returned along with I assume a manager who was waiting for our barman for some sort of key arrangement we over heard. Our poor barman then nervously making our cocktails with the co worker mocking him rolling his eyes and generally belittling him in fact at one point saying "don't get cocky your new remember" when finished the co worker then syphoned a taste out of our cocktail with a straw and exclaimed it was ruined as he added tequila,When we were happy with our cocktails and as customers felt we should nt of seen this cringy power trip of the co worker and the manager should of quietly told the co worker to leave our barman to his job!! Nice rooms great air con, nice touch with bottle of free water. Although four star don't expect paper cups for tea and coffee!! Also no dressing mirror in the bedroom for us girls to straighten and dry our hair!! Also no bath which for a four star would expect!! Swimming pool was amazing to look at but absolutely freezing put us off using again, also shame there is no hot tub. All in all nice hotel would return good location and access to tube!

Hi Allday-grazer, Thank you for leaving us your review! Great to know you like the design of our hotel and regard our Lobby and Re:mix as cool. Parking in London is indeed pricy, if you could consider an alternative, the DLR drops you right on our doorstep. It is exciting to learn our barman was confident in created a unique cocktail for you, this is certainly the kind of service we expect from our Talent and I regret he was obstructed by a team member in his efforts to provide this service. We will obviously look into this matter.
We appreciate your comments on our bed and bathroom facilities and certainly take these into account. I am sorry to hear our Splash was too chilly maybe the sauna and steam room are a good alternative on your next visit. We look forward to have you staying with us and wish you an easy breezy day! Lovely hotel, very modern, great location, we got a real bargain, stumbling distance to Excel and Prince Regent Tube Station. If any criticism, check in was a slow process and we were in a rush, drinks are pricey and maybe not as quiet as we would of liked, but if we could get the same rate again we would stay here for any event in London.

Room Tip: Maybe not facing runway but view was lovely

Hi Rontastic, Thank you for leaving your review here! Great to hear you like our hotel and the location. At times it might indeed get busy at the reception desk but do not hesitate to use our check-in terminals in the future in case you are in a hurry. Our Re:mix is indeed very popular with our guests to mix & mingle so it can get busy but we certainly take your comment on the pricing into consideration. We look forward to your next stay and wish you an easy breezy day! Martijn Mulder

I stayed at the Aloft London Excel during Wimbledon and Pride in London, and the hotel was remarkably helpful. I arrived in at 11am, and they were great at getting me in to a room with a view before check in started. I realized that I had forgot to pack a US-UK charger and they were great at assisting me in finding the nearest Tesco that could help me buy one and than later for an Asda for a tent to Queue for Wimbledon Tickets. The hotel itself is fairly new, so it helps with all the amenities and furniture since they haven't had too many guest to destroy things. The Grab and Go in the lobby was pretty quick and helpful, especially in the morning considering that the restaurant ONLY serves a Traditional Full English Breakfast.

Hi DM L, Thank you for leaving us your review! Great to hear you experienced our Talent as helpful and in the know to assist you with your questions. The hotel opened in 2011 so it is indeed still fairly new which shows in our up-to-date design. The fact that we have the option of a full English breakfast or the Grab and Go breakfast option is indeed a winner for anyone who does not have a big appetite in the morning. Aloft is a very nice hotel outside of London but with a good comunication.
The staff was very helpful with the check-in and to find some places on the map.
Room was clean and big enough and I really liked the shower.
The breakfast gave enough energy before we hit the town.
It was pretty easy to get to the centrum and back with DLR.
We used the self check-out terminal that made very fast and easy to leave the hotel.

This is a really good hotel, but be prepared for the little quirks that do unfortunately get in the way of making a stay here excellent. Don't let them put you off staying, just be aware of them to mitigate them.

First impressions of the hotel are excellent. The public areas are bright, light and ultra modern and very comfortable. Which is good because when you check in, your partner will be sat there for some time. The hotel has what seems the most bizarre check-in system I have ever seen. It took close to 15 minutes to complete. All the information they ask for has already been given through the booking agent, so why they ask for it again. The hotel offers ultra hi tech 'air charging' for mobile phones in the lobby, yet are still insisting on paper check-in procedures. Very odd.

After completing checking you may, like I find yourself in need of some re-refreshment and lunch. Well not at this hotel. Be warned, the bar and restaurant do not open until 5pm!! Coupled with the fact this hotel is quite 'remote' and some distance from elsewhere offering bar or restaurant services. Had I known this I'd have stopped for lunch on route and checked in later.

The do offer a small shop that sells snacks and beer and wine. However note at busy times like check-in during the afternoons there is nobody around to serve you. I wondered around looking for someone as the checking desk staff were all busy with a queue of people waiting. It took me 20 minutes to find another member of staff. I was starting to see that this hotel is actually under staffed. However those you could find they where always helpful and polite.

Once checked in and had got over the disappointment of not being able to get a drink in the bar, I headed up to the room. The room was exceptional. very large, well specified with comfy beds and a huge bathroom area which was modern and very clean. But another quirk,.. Paper cups for tea and coffee facilities.

But now I come to the excellent.. The pool and sauna facilities are amounts the very best I have used at a hotel. The pool design is amazing.

The gym too is exceptional, light and airy, with the latest equipment and large too.

Breakfast however on the Sunday was a shambles. we went in at 8.45am. I was shown to my table and it was not ready. It was exceptionally busy. After the table had been sorted,we went to the buffet food counters to find they had run out of dinner plates and cereal bowls resulting in another wait, by the time they had arrived, they had run out of scrambled eggs, milk for the cereal, croissants, pastries, orange juice, apple juice and the tea and coffee machine had also just temporarily broken down too. There was also other items that missing too. This resulted having to make numerous trips up and down to see if anything had been replaced. There were virtually no staff around to ask as those that were there were completely run off their feet. As there was so few breakfast things available that we wanted, we decided to cut our loses, left and went to the The Novotel the other end of Excel and paid for breakfast there.

Quite simply the 'restaurant' area is far too small to serve that number of people and again was very under staffed.

The small issues and quirks about this hotel are very much 'process and procedural' issues and therefore lay firmly at the door of senior management. The staff where really busy due to lack of them, but where always helpful and polite. If aloft addressed the issues as outlined, which would very simple to do, they'd have an exceptional hotel.

Despite the problems, I still recommend this hotel and would stay again. Its very nice inside, very comfortable and when the bar did open it was like being in a trendy West End bar.
Its also a good base to explore East London, Stratford, The Olympic Park, Westfields, The Docklands and the O2 Arena with all that has to offer.

Room Tip: Check in later and get lunch en-route. You won't get anything here bar a prepacked sandwich in t...

Stayed as part as a Stay & Show package. Excellent facilities, 35 minuets by DLR & Underground to Covent Garden, need to change DLR to underground but the instructions are very clear on DLR, Friendly, comfortable, Breakfast buffet delicious and excellent Value for money , pool and spa facility very nice, plenty of towels.

Only slight hic cup we had was black cab had never heard of the hotel and we had a a scenic tour around the docklands, but excellent cabbie kept us well entertained and turned the meter off. The post code on older sat navs and phones takes you to a housing estate, best type in Edexcell good inwards or get the hotel to arrange a taxi.

Have a great stay fellow travellers

Room Tip: Ask for floor 8 - views across london sky line excellent

Sorry to hear there was hiccup in getting to our hotel. Top tip for next time: use post code E16 1RH to put in your navigation system and you will get to our side of the Docklands hassle-free.
Great to hear you enjoyed our breakfast buffet in the Fede Restaurant and our cool Splash and Re:charge areas, they are great spaces for relaxing after a busy day at ExCeL.
We hope to see you again soon!
Have an easy breezy day,
