“Very Nice stay”
Reviewed 21 July 2014 via mobile

If you have to go to the excel centre you Can not have a nearest hotel! It is very modern. When you go in you smeĺl a very Nice intérior perfume. The lobby is Nice and Clean. The room as Well is not big but really enough and Well organized. A thing which is very important and good to note is the efficiency of the staff. For the chambermaids: They replace everyday what you used without forgetting anything (tea, water, glasses...) thing Where it is not the case in all the four star Hotels...And the staff at the réception during the evening is very professional. Thanks partucularly to angelo who is very professional, steel smiling and helpful for the guest, we was here during All my stay to be sure That i did not need anything. Good to see those elements un the hotel industry! Then a quiet hotel, confortable, Where it is really Nice to stay!

We have had two stays over the past 2 weeks – one for a conference and the other on passing back through London. We chose to do this as the hotel was ideal for the Excel centre and City airport. We were able to leave half our luggage for the return stay. The DLR is on the hotel’s doorstep into London or other attractions. Watch for the DLR being out of action on weekends. One weekend there was scheduled maintenance and the other a broken down train disrupting all traffic on the line. The Emirates Skyline is a way to get to the Jubilee line that has a better track record on availability.

Our memory is of the friendly staff at reception – especially Indri – who went out of their way to ensure we had the best stay possible. The staff were all young and hip in appearance and manner - funky but efficient. We immediately felt younger.

We had suites on both stays on the 8th floor overlooking the Excel centre and the dock plus air traffic in and out of LCY.

The room had two toilets and one shower. My wife prefers a bath and me a shower so at least one of us was happy with that. The shampoo and body wash were attached to the shower wall with separate soap for the basin. The water pressure and temperature were fine and you can set the temperature and turn off the shower separately so the next shower involved no having to get the temperature right. Towels were only just adequate – well-worn and not that big – a come down after staying in the Radisson where the towels were big and fluffy.

There was ample tea and coffee and milk, kettle and a bonus espresso machine. The main detractor was the absence of glasses and china cups/ mugs. Only disposable paper cups. We made alternative arrangements for these. We moved the tea/ coffee facilities out of the bathroom into the adjoining room/ lounge area. There is a bar fridge in the room for your own snacks and cool drinks.

The lounge area consisted of comfortable seating and a round table and chairs for dining etc… Big TVs in both rooms.

The beds were big king size that were very comfortable. Lots of cupboard space to hang and fully unpack. The working space was good overlooking the Excel centre and the old docks. Good lighting, easy to access electricity sockets, USB cable ports etc. – all quite modern in design.

The housekeeping service was not the best. Often having to call reception to get housekeeping to make up the room and bring toilet paper etc.

There is a gym and pool. We usually do not use these other than for an occasional swim – but not this time.

There is an effective guest self-help laundry - £4 to wash and £3 for the spin dry. Bring your own powder etc. or buy from the vending machine.

We enjoyed the breakfast. Cereals, fruits, yogurts tea and coffee were easily accessible. The buffet was generally fresh and well presented. The Aloft also practices the serving of boiled bacon like most British hotels. Our requests for the bacon to be cooked more again resulted in hard boiled bacon. We gave up on that and made do with the sausages, tomato, scrambled egg, potato frits and mushrooms. We were not offered eggs to order. Breakfast can get very busy at times and best to go early or late. Check with reception on their recommended time for breakfast. Once we were warned on the messaging about the expected rush. Once we were not warned so found ourselves in a long queue.

Being a SPG Gold member also helped the comfort of our stay.

Room Tip: The higher up the better overlooking the Excel center and old docks. the other side overlooks the ca...

Hi Rob N, thank you for leaving a review here. We are indeed very closely located to City Airport and next to the ExCel Exhibition Centre. I am sorry to hear that the DLR did not run during your stays with us, it's a shame as the DLR stop Prince Regent is indeed on our doorstep and a very quick way into central London. Great to hear though you used the Emirates Skyline as an alternative! Knowing the memory of your stay includes our friendly Talent and especially Indre is a real pleasure. Indre will be delighted with your special attention to her professionalism. It’s definitely a compliment that our funky and efficient staff made you feel younger. I understand you very much enjoyed our suites but were slightly disappointed with the size and quality of the towels. This feedback will certainly be shared with our Refresh department as well as your comments on cleaning service and restocking the room with bathroom items during your stay.
Luckily you did not miss out on a visit to our Splash pool and Re:charge gym which I am sure left you relaxed and re-energized! We are very excited about the fact you enjoyed our breakfast as we have just renewed our selection and set-up, unfortunately we did not get your bacon right and you were not offered the choice of a special egg order. I will share your experience with our restaurant team. Many of our guests are enthusiastic about our new breakfast set-up so there is indeed a great vibe in the morning and at peak times it does gets busy so my apologies for any waiting time. If you are in a hurry next time you can always have breakfast at Re:fuel as well to be found opposite our reception desk. We are looking forward to have you staying with us again and wish you an easy breezy day! Martijn Mulder

This hotel is right outside the London Excel, which was perfect as I was taking part at the Fitpro exhibition. If you arrive at London City airport and have a lot of luggage, it is easiest to take a taxi. It will cost around 6 GBP, but is well worth it as it only takes you 5 minutes to get to the hotel. The journey on the DLR is a little more time consuming (about 30 minutes- changeover onto a Beckton train at Canning town, although no platform change), but cheaper. The Prince Regent station is just round the corner of the hotel.
The staff is very welcoming! The rooms are modern and big enough and very light. No noise from outside can be heard and the beds are very comfortable. There are also a swimming pool, gym, Sauna and Steam room. Everything is very clean and well looked after.
The Breakfast is a buffet and is very good. I had 2 very good evening meals at the Hotel Restaurant, and the prices were correct at £22 for a 3-course menu. A bottle of wine cost around £20.

All in all I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be close to the London Excel, London City airport and Canary Wharf, or to people who don't mind travelling 30 minutes to get to the centre of London.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 637 on 6th floor, and it was very quiet

This was a spur of the moment hotel selection,a last minute desicion to stay overnight and make a short informal business meeting ,into a bit of our time weekend ,with it being a 3-4 hour drive down from our home.
The hotel was a breath of fresh air, very modern /boutique type hotel ,with nice decor of furnishings and colour. The use of space and design of the bedroom was such a pleasant change to the same old familiar layout you generally get in most hotels.
We had an evening meal which was very nice and the service good as with all the staff.
Breakfast was even better , although they did seem to keep on running out of things ( maybe there should of been more staff ) but it was one of the best breakfast we had ever eaten.
Reception was plain sailing when booking in and out, very quick, informative and helpful ......overall very good. The only let down was that the bar did not open till 5pm ,which meant that if you wanted a drink of any kind you had to go to the self service type cafe area bit, which spoilt it for me,but i would still visit this hotel again.

Hi janet b, thank you for sharing your experience with us. How great to learn you like our stylish decor and appreciate our modern set up. You also visited our FEDE restaurant for dinner and we are excited to hear you had a nice meal and received good service but even more so because you are so enthusiastic about our breakfast which we have recently renewed. More of our guests rediscovered our breakfast which creates a nice vibe in the mornings but at peak times it does gets a bit busy. Great to hear our Talent at reception was in the know and able to help you quick and efficiently. My apologies though for the disappointment experienced when you found the bar closed until 5pm, as we have a lot of business guests the hotel tends to be very quiet during the day but obviously we have to take of our weekend guests into account as well so I appreciate your feedback. We look forward seeing you again with us and wish you an easy breezy day. Martijn Mulder

Hotel is very modern and stylish with excellent links to central London (Prince Regent DLR is 2 minutes walk away). It was near the airport and although we could see the planes fly past the hotel very nearby we never heard them as the sound insulation was so good. Room was very clean and modern and the free bottled water was appreciated (I recently stayed in a 5 star hotel and they wanted to charge me for room water). Beds very comfy. Breakfast was superb with a very wide selection and all well cooked/presented. Parking is right outside the door (payable, eg £14 for 24 hours) but was reasonable considering London's usual high charges. Bar was comfortable with friendly staff. I'd definitely recommend it especially if you need the Excel which was right next door.

Room Tip: Don't drive into London from here as too far and London has huge traffic problems. The DLR (Metr...

Stayed in this hotel for 5 nights. What a treat. Firstly I arrived here after 24hrs of travelling, I was under the weather and not feeling my most pleasant which completely changed when I was greeted by Nick at the front desk!! Nick has exceptional customer service skills and could not have been more lovely, helpful, warm, professional and accommodating!! Check in was just seamless with him and his attention to detail is the start to making your stay at this hotel just lovely. We stayed in a twin which was a lovely big room. The room was spotless and everything worked. Free wifi was terrific. The showers are huge and powerful which is a must for me. Rooms are kept well maintained by house keeping through your stay. Pool and gym were perfect. Breakfast, although pricey at £15 each, had a fantastic selection and how nice to finally find a hotel that does not cook scrambled egg into rubber!! The hotel is about 2hrs from Heathrow via the DLR / underground lines but is well worth the journey as the comfort awaiting you here cannot be beaten. It's a stones throw from London City airport. Honestly cannot wait to be back here and again a huge thank you to Nick for your outstanding customer service!!!

A one nights stay for a trip to the Theatre and Sightseeing. Rooms & Breakfast Excellent. The one thing that really shone out were the Staff, with everyone from Reception to Bar Staff being so friendly and helpful. We all wished we could have stayed longer than one night. The only down side was that Black Cab Drivers did not know where it was without using sat nav which caused mega problems when returning from The Lyceum when we had a tour of a housing estate at night and the driver had to get out and ask where we were! Bless him, he only charged the £30 it should have been and not the £52 on the meter! Hope he got home alright!
