“Fantastic hostel - ignore previous comments before March 2010!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 June 2010

Clink261 is an excellent hostel...clean, comfortable and vibrant. Formerly Ashlee House, the hostel had a major refurbishment in mid March 2010. Therefore, we must bear this in mind when reading the other comments prior to this. The rooms are now comfortable and the public areas are really colourful and exciting.

Breakfast is served everything morning in the clean kitchen area. With an endless supply of toast/marmalade, cereals and tea/coffee/juice...it's perfectly adequate for the day ahead.

There were negative comments in the past about the shower rooms. These are in a process of being refurbished and the hostel says that they will be improved very soon.

The location is great...just a short walk from King's Cross station...and there are many shops and cafes nearby. The hostel does provide internet access...but there is a much better internet cafe just down the road which provides very fast and cheap connection. (I needed to upload photos and the hostel's computers had a block for uploading.)

We travelled in a large school group of 24 people. We booked several months in advance and did a lot of research on other hostels. Clink261 dealt with us very well...and am so glad that we chose them. We didn't receive a single complaint from any of our kids...and they all said they liked the hostel.

For sure, we'll be happy to come back!!

Nearby Kings cross, which is ideal. Nice lounge basement. Perfect hostel for backpackers and people who don't want to spend a lot of money for a stay!

My friend and I stayed in 8 bunk beds room and at first, it was a kind of ok and fun to meet people from all over the world. But it was very noisy especially because there are loads of people in the hostel (bunch of french kids who was apparently coming as a school trip) and I realised I got bitten by a tick. Also, even I was on the top of the bed, there were no safety fence on my bed so i couldnt sleep very well. There wasn't enough space as well. Therefore my friend needed to take her expensive camera all the way and she broke it up sinking it in a toilet. It is still great value if you are a budget traveller, but I wouldn't recommend my friends / families to stay there.

Only good thing about it is the price and it's location (about 5 mins walk from King's Cross station)

Mattresses have seen better days. While hostel is not exactly dirty, it's not very clean either. Carpets are stained everywhere. Shower area floods. Found the 10-second shower button extremely annoying. We were lucky to get a room not facing the main road, but can understand why some people complained about the noise from the streets.

Suitable for people going there to meet other travelers and their little lounge is quite nice.

Ashlee House tries to keep the vibe youthful and urban while it is just dirty. Rooms are dorm style (bunk beds for up to 12 people) and you get clean sheets everyday, but not a clean blanket! Computers with internet access are located in the basement (also where they serve breakfast), but since everyone smokes down there, it isn't a pleasant place to hang out (unless cigarette smoke with no ventilation doesn't bother you). Showers are dirty and you have to press a button and the water comes on for 10 seconds at a time. We stayed 3 nights, and on the remaining nights of our trip (7 nights total), we found a nicer hotel for less $ down the street. I usually don't complain about where I stay while traveling, but there are much better hotels/hostels out there for the price. The only thing I liked about staying here was that I met a lot of interesting people from all over the world, and it was in a good location to Kings Cross Railway Station.

This hostel was dirty and loud... I stayed there threed nights. The toilets were broken. It was horrible to take a shower having the smell of toilets full of s*** and p** . There were two Italian girls working there whose English was very bad. They were not friendly and not willing to help. Only one receptionist ( her name was Lucie) was very nice and helpful. She gave me tips and answered all my questions.
I will never stayed there anymore and not recommend this hostel to anybody...
