Good, clean, modern hostel, great location, friendly staff.

We arrived early but were welcomed and allowed to store our bags and complete the check-in process anyway. Staff were friendly and helpful and there seemed to be a nice vibe around the place.

Booked into a 5 bed female dorm while my husband booked into the male dorm, as all the double rooms were booked out (apparently they go very quickly, so get in early if you want one). My bed was the only non-bunk bed in the room but didn't have its own light (the only one not to), but this wasn't the end of the world. Shower and toilet/ bathroom was in the dorm, which I liked as it was convenient and meant fewer people shared it.

Excellent value food, coffee and alcoholic drinks served until midnight in the hostel café, and breakfast was plentiful and filling. The café downstairs was great, with sockets to plug in laptops etc. I liked that we could hang around and relax in the café without feeling pressured to spend a fortune. There is no kitchen in this hostel but we knew this before we arrived and it wasn't a problem. Coffee served 24 hours in the café downstairs. We didn't use the lounge area on floor 1 as we didn't think there was much atmosphere up there, but staff were happy to deliver food up there if you ordered downstairs - a nice touch for groups or those preferring a quieter option.

All in all, I think this hostel is well worth its price as they don't try to squeeze more money out of you elsewhere. Plus, you'll save money because of its great food options and its location. I walked into Covent Garden in 15 - 20 mins, St Pancras and Kings Cross stations are just across the road and Euston Station 5 - 7 mins walk. Luggage storage also available at a reasonable price (GBP 2 - 3). For all these reasons, I give this hostel and thumbs up. Personally, I would recommend it over the YHA near Regent St/ Oxford Circus.

This hostel has a really good bar! Being in Kings Cross I also felt like I was in the hub of things. There are plenty of pubs and bars around the area and it is also across the street from the tube and international trains (eurostar) The bathrooms are in the rooms which can be a bit annoying, especially when there are 5 people wanting to use it at the same time, but other then that I didnt have any complaints.

Stayed here on 16/10/10 for one night; paid £63 for the two of us (excluding breakfast, extra charge applies if not YHA member); booked by telephone to the hostel.

The location is excellent for transport connections, especially Eurostar.

We had a two person room, with two-tier bunk beds, en-suite. The room was good, comfortable, in good condition and reasonably spacious - subject to it being a hostel room. The bathroom was rather cramped, but otherwise fine. All bedding is provided, but not towels (they may be in more expensive rooms).

The staff on reception and elsewhere were friendly, helpful and efficient.

The building generally is quite modern and in good condition, and of course it is always busy here. Most rooms face on to the very busy Euston Road, but soundproofing was good, and we did not have any problems with noise.

Continental breakfast is £3.95; you are given a set amount of food and help yourself to juice and coffee. This was good in quality, and reasonable in quantity. For £4.95 you can also have a bacon OR sausage OR egg bap; this was poor, the bap was undercooked. There is also a good selection of light meals and various snacks and drinks at other times, apparently 24 hours. There is, of course, a huge range of places for eating in the immediate area.

There are, we consider, two drawbacks to this hostel: the communal areas and the price.

We have stayed here several times over many years. Since our last visit in 2008, there have been substantial refurbishments and ‘improvements’. There was a lounge on the ground floor, and the whole of the first floor was for catering. Extra rooms have now been built on the first floor, together with a small lounge, and downstairs (adjacent to reception) is now the catering area where breakfast is served. So with the addition of five new rooms, the communal areas have diminished. The downstairs catering area was not large enough for the number wanting breakfast (even though the first floor lounge was also being used); it was cramped and not enough tables. A case of squeezing in extra rooms at the expense of other facilities.

While London is obviously expensive for accommodation, £63 seems high compared to discounted rates available at some hotels and remembering that this is a hostel. (Getting comparable prices at hotels would vary day by day and depending on when you book). We could have stayed elsewhere slightly cheaper, and a few months ago we did stay in London (similar standard) for just £29. The big advantage of hostels is usually communal areas, and self catering if required, and being able to meet others, rather than just stuck in your room, but that is not the case here now - the self catering has gone as part of the improvements. So, compare prices with elsewhere and think whether there is really any advantage in staying at this hostel.

It would get a 3.5 rating if such a thing existed.

Well the location, right at Kingscross Station, is clearly good. However this hostel leaves a lot to be desired. For a start Hostelworld should make it clearer than ading in the small print that there is a £3 p/night supplement charge for YHA hostels if you are not already a paid-up member. Our room (4-bed private) was fine, narrow but quite comfortable beds. However no towels provided - you have to buy for £2, which isn't great if (surprise surprise) you are backpacking and don't want to take a soggy towel with you! Another annoyance is that it's £1.30 for a bottle of water in the hostel and there is no free left luggage. the bathrooms were disgusting - why design a shower room with no ventilation or fan? So they all damp and smelly. Plus my girlfriend almost cracked her head when she slipped stepping down out of the (luke-warm) shower. Add to this far to many old aged pensioners staying there! So to sum up, great location does not mask a whole string of disappointments.

It was so close to the station. I loved that it was within walking distance of the British Library and Regent's Park. The staff was very friendly and it was great that you could buy tickets for the bus tours at the hostel front desk. The rooms were clean and the beds were sturdy. I slept on a top bunk and it was great that the bunks did not move around when you slept. I also liked the convience of breakfast served in the lounge. Although it is not included, for a few pounds it is worth the convience of having it right there. Also there are two great pubs next to the hostel so it made for a great place to eat dinner after a day of sight-seeing. If you are staying in a hostel in London, this is the best place to stay!!!!

I stayed there for 5 nights and liked the hostel. The people at the reception were friendly and helped me a lot.
The bedroom was small but comfortable with quite new beds and lockers. The little bathroom was okay and there was another shower + WC outside the room. The room had an air condition (which unfortunately couldn't be turned up or down by us).
The breakfast, which is not included, was continental and rather boring: only a few things to choose from. However, for a few days it's okay.
Other snacks like pizza or burger and also drinks were offered throughout the day but I didn't try anything.
The YHA is in short distance from St Pancras / King's Cross, and supermarkets, pubs, fast food restaurants are close by, too.
