“A Sweet Treasure in the Heart of London”
Reviewed 17 July 2013

My daughter and I spent two wonderful weeks with the Ruskin B&B as our main base, while we traveled to outlying destinations periodically. Located directly across from the British Museum, with two great relaxing shady parks at either end of the street, it was infinitely convenient to everything in London. Our transportation to everywhere we wanted to go was right across the street. The B&B is relaxed with a very informal atmosphere. The staff were not only considerate, kind and informative, they were an absolute pleasure to do business with. We were lucky to receive one of the double bed in suite rooms (means we had our own shower & toilet) with a lovely overview of luscious green gardens and chirping birds. The wifi service extended to our room from the main lounge. The lounge was a bit dated, but comfortable with a large flat screen TV. The linens were great and soap was provided daily. The breakfast was a traditional eggs,bacon/sausage, beans, tomatoes and toast. Cereal, tea, coffee and juices were also offered. I would definitely stay here again as our main base while traveling in the London area. A gem of a find! I would highly recommend it to anyone I knew traveling to London.

Room Tip: As it was in the middle of a heat wave, the rooms in the rear were considerably cooler facing the ga...

The hotel has really good location, it's next to the British Museum. It's situated in tradicional victorian house and it's quite nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. Only breakfast was a bit monotonous but that's probably normal in England.

First the bad: While we gave 6 days notice that we had to cancel our last night, we were refunded only 80 of our 130 pounds for our family room. The lift was out our entire 5 night stay, and it seems to have been so for a while. Finally, while our reservation indicated that toiletries were provided, they weren't, so bring your own. Now the good: Great location - literally beside the British Museum, which is perfect for several one-hour visits whenever the urge strikes. Russell Square is a beautiful area, with a convenient Tube stop, markets and restaurants. The same staff member was at the front desk throughout our stay (does he ever sleep?!?!?!) and he was very friendly and helpful, providing us with biscuits and juice when our departure time was too early for the full English breakfast (7:30-9:15). The breakfast is made to order, and a great addition to the comfortable, relatively large rooms. Our room had a view overlooking a lovely garden. The bathroom was a welcome sight after putting up with much smaller versions in our last two hotels. It is not a luxury hotel, but overall exceeded my expectations, with the exception that it ended up costing us more than we bargained for because we only received a partial refund for the last night.

What a find! We spent literally hours trawling the net for somewhere to stay without being ripped off. Located only 5 mins walk from Russell Square tube, is this superb B&B which has recently been refurbished. Our double en suite room was compact but clean, fresh and very comfortable. It didn't have a tv (big lounge downstairs with huge tv) but has a hair dryer. The shower looked brand new and there was plenty of hot water. We paid £91 for both of us which included cereals, fruit and a cooked breakfast and you could have as many eggs and as much bacon as you wanted. The chap was so polite and charming and kept coming round topping up our tea cups and offering more toast. We even watched the news whilst munching.
Absolute bargain and a real gem. They also have a family room so we shall definitely come back!!

Room Tip: We asked for a room on the top floor and they were very accommodating. Lovely view too.

Last minute booking, read reviews, most are spot on. Our room on ground floor had a huge window looked out over a garden with green parrots in the trees! After 4 days in paris looking at scaffolding in an air shaft for 3x the price this was a welcome surprise!

Location just cannot be beat, near 2ntube stops, between russell square and bloomsbury parks and across from the FREE British museum, walk to soho for nightlife.

We booked a room here on a spur of the moment decision to stay overnight and we weren't disappointed. Compact but clean rooms, brand new shower room and a great breakfast in the morning with exceptional service. We'll definitely stay here again

After looking around for a room for myself, my partner and son, I found The Ruskin on trip advisor. It was one of only 3 places that I could find that let a 15 year old share a room. I read the other reviews and thought for the price offered we would give it a try.

I was very apprehensive as we have not stayed in many hotels over the years as we normally camp.

We arrived late which was not a problem. The owner gave us a local map showing where the hotel and tourist attractions were, took payment, gave us the room key and told us the wifi password and breakfast arrangements. We were in room 102 from where we could still use the wifi. It was newly decorated and had a double bed, single bed, double wardrobe, desk, sink, kettle and hair dryer. There were two large windows which faced the side of the British Museum (well worth a visit and free entry). There was a toilet straight across from the room and a shower room with another toilet next door to this. Both bathrooms were newly fitted out and newly tiled and both were also spotlessly clean. The bedroom and beds were all immaculately clean and very comfortable.

Breakfast is served in the basement and is cooked to order. If you want more than one egg, slice of bacon or sausage just ask. Along with the cooked english breakfast there are cereals, fruit juice, tea, coffee and toast.

The location is great as it is an easy walk to theatre land and Covent Garden and is also close to the tube and is on a bus route.

All staff were pleasant, polite and helpful.

We will return!

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor can access the wifi still. The lift was out of order when we went and may h...
