We stayed for one night and were very happy with the facilities. The staff were very friendly and helpful (left luggage facility - great!). We enjoyed our veggie breakfast, eaten in a happy atmosphere in the main building.
We will definitely be returning!

This was the second time I had stayed here whilst in London on business. I had an enjoyable stay the first time so was happy to visit again. I chose a single room to keep costs down but went for the en-suite option (some of the rooms do not have en-suite facilities - but I would rather pay a bit extra to have a shower / toilet in the room).

The single room was quite small, but to be honest it was big enough for my needs. The room was on the front of the hotel on the first floor and when I entered the room the window was wide open (I guess to keep the temperature down as it was a warm day). The bed was against the window. There was a small work-desk area although this was very small and only just big enough for my laptop and papers. The room rates include tea / coffee making facilities and free Wi-Fi so not too bad for a budget hotel, and all room rates include breakfast.

Breakfast is in the basement room, but there are less tables than there are guests, so if you arrive at a busy time you may have a short wait, or have to share a table with others, which might not be to everyone's taste.

The 3% surcharge for paying by credit card is a bit mean to be honest as most hotels in London don't do this (last time I stayed here they didn't add it).

My reception experience was a little odd...the two workers on the front desk were pleasant enough but the person serving me was then heading off for her break and served me whilst simultaneously taking a phone call and it appeared she was struggling to understand the request of the person on the phone...to the extent she advised him to ring back in 30 minutes when 'someone who could understand English better would be on duty'...if I were that caller I wouldn't be happy with the service.

Staff in the breakfast room were very friendly, and the staff serving the tables were efficient.

Overall a good value budget hotel in central London, with a few quirks, but if looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful in the centre of the city I would recommend giving it a try.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for placing your feedback on TripAdvisor. It really is important to us.

We are sorry to hear that although the staff at the reception was friendly and polite, the service could have been better. We will speak to the member of staff concerned and ensure that these situations do not happen again in the near future.

We enjoyed our stay at the Alhambra hotel which is well run with helpful friendly staff. The room was clean and everything was in good condition. The bathroom was new. Our room was at the back of the house and it was very quiet. The location is convenient with Kings cross station around the corner.
We can recommend a stay at the hotel and will come back for our next stay in London.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in May, 2014 and I can assure you that this is a clean, well-run hotel operated by a wonderful family! The rooms were very clean and the location across from the Kings Cross/St. Pancras stations is excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning breakfasts and conversations with hotel patriarch Frank, as well as his son-in-law/manager Bruno! An overall pleasant stay........

Lovely stay with 4 children for the weekend. Very clean & Friendly staff. Good choice of breakfast in the mornings. The only downside the rooms are very warm in the evenings and it got to stuffy to get comfortable, will come back though as good area, close to everything and very good price.

Dear Guest,

From all the team at the Alhambra Hotel a BIG THANK YOU for placing your valuable feedback on TripAdvisor.

We are delighted to know that you were happy with your stay and that we offer a GREAT CHOICE OF BREAKFAST and GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY.

With regards to the hot weather, unfortunately, the unusual hot weather in London this week means that the rooms can be warm during certain times of the day but we are more than happy to provide guests with fans.

We recently stayed at Alhambra Hotel recently and enjoyed our stay here. Based on our experience, we'd be happy to stay here again in the future.

What we liked

Easy and quick reservations through booking.com, quick check-in upon arrival, luggage storage, accommodating staff.

Room was cleaned to a good standard each day. Bed was generally comfortable. Limited but adequate storage space in the room, facet, working TV and ok wifi service.

Location is very convenient, just 2 minutes walk from King's Cross Station, 5 minutes to Euston Station and the British Library and 15 minutes Russell Square and the British Museum. Loads of restaurant options in the area.

Morning breakfast was surprisingly good. Cooked Full English, Vegetarian and Continental food selections available and nice strong coffee, perfect for getting started each morning. This part of the stay was a pleasant surprise.

What we didn't like

No lift so top floor rooms require a bit of stair climbing. Hallway and stairways are very narrow, which might be a problem for guests with mobility issues. This is similar to other area hotels.

Rooms are small, leaving little space for luggage in your room and bathrooms are tiny. Room safe was too small, just large enough for passports, folded documents and the smallest of cameras. No chance of getting a tablet, laptop or larger electronics inside.

Payment surcharge of 3% if you want to use your credit card, which we are not big fans of seeing. Further, this is not specified on booking.com when you reserve with Alhambra Hotel. They should really do away with this practice. It is not befitting of this good little hotel.

Overall, we found our stay at Alhambra Hotel to be fine. Rooms are good enough, breakfast quite nice and the location very good. Prices were reasonable for this area of the city as well. In the end, we'd have no problem staying here again.

Room Tip: Reserve early to secure room. Shared and private bathroom options available.

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for sharing your views on TripAdvisor.
We are happy to hear that you were happy with your stay at the Alhambra Hotel and that you would consider coming back to us.
Unfortunately, the hotel is a listed building and therefore no internal major atterations are possible for placing a lift in the hotel but we are always willing to help with luggage when necessary.

Great that you found our BREAKFAST SERVICE and LOCATION GOOD.

Kind Regards,

Everything here was a disappointment. I knew this was a budget hotel but £140 per night puts it in the same price bracket as Ibis, Premier Inn etc, which offer much better facilities. A 3% surcharge for a credit card is always a bad sign. I have no idea if there is a guest lounge or bar, certainly none was pointed out to me at check in. My room was twin for single occupancy. It was situated across the road from reception and up narrow flights of stairs. Really the room would have been small with only a single bed, as a twin it was cramped. The en suite was tiny with a washbasin too small to put shaver or toothbrush mug on. There was no space either for towel rail. The bed had a sheet and blanket (no duvet here), the bed-cover over the blanket had several unpleasant looking stains on it. The bed was a small single which was not very comfortable. The night was punctuated first of all by the noise of people bumping up the narrow stairs and then in the early hours by creaking and bumping from the room above. I did not get to experience breakfast as the dining room was down yet more narrow stairs with people trying to get both up and down. I gave up left my key and headed for a cafe.

Dear guest,

Thank you for sharing your views with TripAdvisor.

We are sorry if we have failed to meet your expectations on this occasion. We will take all your points in consideration and try harder in the future. As a family business for nearly 40 years customer service has been always our strength and we take all feedback seriously.

We offer a great location, clean room together with a great family feel service.

Please accept my apologies if you found our rooms and common areas to be small but in London hotel rooms are generally quite limited in terms of space.

Kind Regards
