Charming hotel with wonderful staff

Review of La Gaffe
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Jan 2020
My husband and I stayed here for four nights while visiting our daughter and we couldn't have been happier with our experience.

The room reminded me of ones on the Continent. In other words, smallish in size but with everything you need.

We had a twin and both found our beds to be comfortable. There was a small writing desk, place to hang our clothes, a couple of drawers, a kettle and a small bathroom (shower no tub).

Our room faced the road so you could hear the traffic (but they supplied ear plugs).

There is a restaurant and a wine bar within the hotel. My daughter and I had two glasses of Prosecco at a very reasonable price.

We didn't eat dinner in the hotel but did have breakfast there (it was included with our room). A nice array of cereals, wonderful croissants, breads, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, juice and, of course, tea and coffee. Service was quick and friendly and we were able to have a leisurely breakfast without feeling rushed.

The location is wonderful. Lots of shops and restaurants close by. The tube station was only a few minutes down the street.

One thing to note is that we had to climb stairs to get to our room. Due to the age of the building, they were a bit narrow and the staff brought our luggage up to our rooms so we didn't have to deal with that.

The desk staff checks you in and out in person so if you have to leave early to catch your flight, you can check out the night before.
Date of stay: January 2020
Room Tip: If the sound of traffic would bother you, ask for a room away from the street

This is the third time I have stayed at La Gaffe and I just love it! Rooms are small however very clean and I always meet such interesting people.

The food and service is great at the Italian restaurant.

Pino and Lorenzo always make me feel at home and it will always be my go to place when in London.

Room tip: If you would like a slightly larger a room I would request when book.

We are so glad we found La Gaffe! Wonderful B&B style place with breakfast. Small, but very comfortable and clean rooms. Fantastic location! Very near the Hampton Tube station (intersection of Heath and High Streets) and the main street (High Street). Near the Keats House, Freud House, and more.
Extra friendly and welcoming staff.
The affiliated and connected Italian restaurant shouldn't be missed! Plan to have at least one dinner there.
Really worth a visit!
HIGHLY recommended.

Room tip: We took the room with the adjoining bunk beds. Nice extra space for other guests or just for storing and organizing your things.

Thank you so much. Glad you pointed out our dining option, as before we ever had rooms, we were just a restaurant. I believe this is one of our great assets as once our guests have returned after a busy day of sightseeing or work, they do not have to go out again for dinner.

I just enjoyed another wonderful stay at La Gaffe. La Gaffe never disappoints. The owner, Lorenzo, and his team are amazing. You won't find people like them at the large, chain hotels. There is a reason why so many of the hotel guests return again and again. And the food! It's like having my Italian grandmother cook for me again. The restaurant is enjoyed by locals as well as hotel guests. That says a lot, especially in an area with so many restaurants to choose from.
The rooms are spotless and cozy and you'll sleep well after walking on magical Hampstead Heath just a few minutes away. I've already booked my next stay!

Room tip: All the rooms are a bit different so it's best to let Lorenzo know what you require.

We spent 12 days at La Gaffe, and it couldn't get a higher recommendation. The room was a little small (this is London!), and that's the only negative comment I can make. The accommodations were clean and comfortable, the staff was as friendly and helpful as could be. The owner, Lorenzo, sees to everything personally. The breakfast is good, the restaurant is always available for dinner, and the food is delicious. We will certainly be returning.

Room tip: Couldn't say. Our room was just fine!

A sincere thank you. Our aim is to make La Gaffe your home away from home and for you to feel happy to come back to us every night. Very glad we have achieved this for you. I am glad you mention the room size as this is something we particularly try to convey via our website. Being an old building from the 1850s we are limited with room dimensions. But we try our best to make the best of the spaces that we have :)

The room was quite small but it was clean and warm, The bed was very comfortable indeed and the linen was pristine. Not the most powerful shower I've ever used but the water was warm and there were plenty towels.

It was very close to the main attractions in Hampstead, the town and the Heath.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was a cold collection of cheese, ham, croissants etc but there was plenty of it. The coffee was excellent!
