“Good budget for London family accommodation in great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2014

If you travel with a child, especially an older child, Premier Inns always have big enough beds and rooms, rather than the squeezed in camp beds families often have to put up with. This hotel has a great location just behind the Millennium Wheel and in six stays we have never experienced a problem. A clean hotel, friendly staff and a perfectly adequate restaurant. Do not expect great views because of it's location as it occupies the back of County Hall, the Marriott occupies the front and you will have to pay at least double there. If you want a view at Premier Inn prices try their Waterloo hotel which is about 100 yards behind this hotel and has great views from the higher floors. County Hall also has a park playground next to it for young children.

We decided to book at this hotel due to the location and reviews on TripAdvisor we were a family of 4 with 2 children aged 7 and 5. We stayed for one night on Saturday 2nd August, when we checked in the the room was lovely if not a little hot. When we went to bed that evening we fou d out we could not open the windows or adjust the air con in the room it was 28 degrees! The following morning we had to call down to reception to request some towels as we only had 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel for a family of 4! After a 2 hour wait we still did not have a my towels and all had to share between the 4 of us! The receptionist Matthew was kind but I am sure was sick of me calling down after the 3rd time for them. When we checked out I mentioned that I was not happy about the towels and was offered a refund on to my card and over a week later I am still awaiting this to show!

What to like:

Best possible location on Thames behind London Eye.

Great breakfast. Nice bar.

Big rooms with comfortable beds and good bathroom.

Fantastic staff who went above and beyond to help when our flight was cancelled.

Quick check in for our group of 88.

Great value for the quality and location.

Quiet (amazing!)

What not to like:

Room was a bit warm and it isn't possible to open windows.

We will definitely return. A great find.

August 2nd – 10th

I found this hotel on booking.com and found it a great combination of price and location.
This hotel is one of two hotels that occupy the historic County Hall Building. For that reason, there are some shortcomings that may be due to regulations of occupying a historical building.
Normally, I don't review the hotel restaurant with the hotel but since my rate included breakfast, I have included that in my review.

The room:
The room is an average size hotel room at about 250 square feet. Premier Inns largest bed is a queen-size bed and that is the type of room we got. The bed was comfortable and had nice bedding. It is important to note that this hotel does not have air conditioning. In the August heat we were able to get by with both windows opened and running two fans. I would like to see Premiere Inns have standalone air conditioning units in their rooms for the summer. The bathroom was of decent size and had a toilet, wash basin and shower/tub combo. I noted two things about the bathroom. First, the door has an automatic door closer. We needed the door open to vent out the steam from the shower so they provided us with a door stop. I found it strange that there are no electric outlets in the bathroom or a hair dryer. We did have a work-around, the hotel provided us with a door stop. There are no refrigerators or microwave ovens in these rooms. We didn’t need a microwave oven but a refrigerator would have been nice. There are no ice machines on any of the floors so our work-around was to get ice from the bar. The electricity in the room is dependent of having your room key in a card slot by the door. This may be a European way of conserving on electricity. There are steps that lead from the sidewalk to the lobby which requires you to lug your bags to the ground floor level. I would like to see Premier keep a porter on station at the stairs to carry bags. To be fair to Premier, I noticed the same problem at the Marriott hotel at the other end of the building. We boarded a tour there and their lobby was hot so they might not have air conditioning either. Housekeeping was outstanding so we never had any housekeeping issues. This may be a British custom but there are no wash cloths. Again, that may be how the British do things.

The amenities:
This property does have wifi available for a cost of 3.00 GBP per day. The level of performance in room 364 was more than acceptable. The hotel does have an on-site restaurant and bar. In the morning, the restaurant is the breakfast room and Premier does have a nice, large selection of breakfast items including traditional English breakfast items. The breakfast buffet opens at 6:30 am weekdays and 7:00 am on weekends. The food is tasty and is all you can eat. Our breakfast plan was included in our room rate and was a very good deal.

The location:
The location of this hotel is perfect. It is next to the London Eye and across the Westminster Bridge over the Thames River to Big Ben, Parliament, Westminster Abbey and walking distance to Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace. It is also near the Westminster and Waterloo tube stations. We took the tube from Heathrow Airport to the Westminster Station.

The staff:
As I mentioned in previous reviews, the staff can either make or break the experience. The staff here does a great job with customer service. Any shortcomings in facilities was made up by the “can-do” attitude of the staff. Everybody greats you as you make you way around the ground floor. I do want to mention so people that made this a special stay:
Simon – the hotel manager. He fixed my wifi issues very quickly.
Wozani – Assistant hotel manager.

The reception staff:
Anam who checked us in,
Rahella who taught me how to schedule a wake-up call,
Mo who helped me with directions to the post office to change dollars into pounds.
Elisha and
Ron the maintenance man.

The food staff:
Irene – I think she is the Food and Beverage manager,
Catherine and
Betiel.

We would stay here again.

-The hotel do not have airconditioning.
-Do not direct a parcel to the hotel to arrive during your stay.
-Bring a door stopper to keep the bathroom door open to get rid of the steam when showering
-Bringing suction wall hangers will help you to hang your wet towels

For anyone looking for a good price family room in a great location I can't recommend this hotel enough. We stayed on Thursday night and it was great. We were 2ad &2ch and the room was huge. The beds were comfy and the staff couldn't do enough for us. We commented that short of some posh toiletries there was nothing setting the hotel apart from somewhere like a Hilton or Park Plaza which would charge a lot more for the room.

We did the dinner and breakfast meal deal that was great value and lovely food. It was £22.95 for two courses, a drink and breakfast the next day. You could have anything on the menu including steak. The kids evening meal was £5.95 for three courses and they ate free at breakfast.

We paid £120 for the room but we dawdled a bit on booking and it had been under £100.

Location: Perfect, right beside the London Eye, London Aquarium, Westminster, Big Ben and very close to Waterloo (closest) or Westminster subway stations.

There are also a few restaurants and shops right across the street so you can eat out right beside the hotel if you prefer. (We ate at Cucina one night, the food was not bad and the price was very reasonable)

Check In: Efficient (you can check in online if you register with Premier Inn). We had the keys in less than a minute.

Room: We had a family room for our family of 4 (two teenagers), the room has two queen beds and a roll-away bed, and enough room still to move about. This is great value for central London.

The room did not have Air Conditioning but they did supply fans in the room as London was very hot and humid making the room uncomfortable. To be fair the weather in the UK is not often this hot so it might be unreasonable to fit expect expensive AC in the room to use once or twice a year.

Room and facilities are spotlessly clean. The staff are a credit too, everyone gave us great service.

Breakfast: Buffet style, lots of options, cereal, continental, cooked...enough to satisfy two (sometimes) fussy teenagers! Great value.

Dinner: Again good value and in the same (very large) room as the breakfast. There is also a bar where the adults can sit with a drink (kids welcome too).

Other: Vending machines and luggage storage room are available.

This is a really great value for money hotel, perfectly located in central London...we will definitely stay here again when visiting London.

Room Tip: We had a room on the third floor facing away from the Thames and London Eye, it was quiet as the roa...
