London Marriott Hotel Maida Vale
Ranked #382 of 1,078 Hotels in London
Reviewed 13 July 2014

We had booked this hotel for one night as a family of 4. We had booked a quad room through a re-seller site and got a stonking deal that included breakfast. We drove from the midlands and was able to park the car in the streets behind the hotel , saving the £30 a night parking the hotel charges. On a weekend local parking is fine.

We arrived about 11am and was told the room was not ready, so we dumped the bags with the concierge and headed into London. We got back at 11pm! Using a technique that always works at Marriott hotels we got upgraded to a suite! We had a large bedroom and large king size bed. Sitting room, kitchen with fridge, hob, washer machine. Large bathroom, with 2 showers (one with side jets) The kids has put-me-up singles that we arranged in the Lounge area. Was great. We had 2 TV sets!

Breakfast was amazing (make sure you get it included in the room rate as its pricey otherwise!). Even had a little area for kiddies with sugary cereals, waffles etc. I was going to list it all, but there is all types here, breads, continental, salami, fish, fresh meats, cereals and the usual full cooked English. Fresh juices, great coffee etc. You get the idea.

A special shout out to the staff. From the young lady who checked us in, to the guy who came to make up our beds, to random staff you meet in the hotel, polite, friendly and genuinely nice.

There are lots of buses that pass the hotel. We used them a lot to get all around London. The tube is a 5 min walk and can get you anywhere. I have read past reviews and I strongly urge that the "slightly out of central London" is a strong advantage. No congestion charge which means you can drive right up to it and park for free locally.

There is lot of little touches that helps your stay and make you feel your in a nice place. There is always a jug dispenser with iced water on the go at reception. On hot days its great. Plus a little popcorn trolley that the kids helped themselves too every time we went through reception.

We used the swimming pool the hotel has an agreement to use next to the hotel in a local gym. Its not a big pool, but the kids loved it, it also has a steam room and sauna. We went Sunday morning at 9 and had the place to ourselves for the first 30 mins. They even provide you towels. The kids loved it and built up an appetite for the lovely breakfast. Which was served until 11 am on Sundays.

Locally there is a star bucks next door, over the road is a foreign shop (next to a great pub) which sell products to local people. Ie 4 cans of soda (sprite) cost less than £2. Large bottles of water (1.5L) were 50p. Try to beat that in London. Turn right out the hotel and walk 5 mins and there is all kind of shops. KFC through to Primark, these are local shops for local people so you dont get the London "Mark up". Yet only 15 mins to central London. I dont think you can beat the location.

We wont stay anywhere else now in London. Happy to take questions through the messaging system.

Room Tip: The suites are amazing.

The staff is very friendly and want to please you by going above and beyond. We love the executive lounge and they provide great snacks, soda, coffees, teas, nice breakfast. In early evening they provide beer and wine complimentary. We are very impressed. On Friday and Saturday happy hour they only offer drinks but on Sunday through Thursday they have a nice spread of food. We were hungry and thought they offered snacks on Friday night so the manager Sam, provided us with delicious appetizers and was so eager to make us happy. They also have great concierge desk to help you get to your tourist attractions and restaurants . The tube was only one and half blocks away, I was worried but it really was a nice walk. I would recommend this location and I would definitely stay here again when I return to London .

Room Tip: Ask for room that is way from the street. Our room Was very quiet.

This was our first Trip to Europe, and knew nothing about London. The hotel had easy assess to the tube. We thought the hotel was more north of the London area and we would have liked to have been more central, but the tube was so well marked, so it didn't matter where we stayed. The rooms were clean, a good size, and very comfortable. We had a great breakfast at the hotel every morning. Shopping and restaurants are close by. Our only negative was NO wifi in the rooms, you had to go to the lobby to get WiF. But, we would love to return at sometime and stay at this hotel again.

We only stayed for 1 night but the thing that sets this hotel apart from the many other hotels we have stayed at was the welcome by staff and the way we were looked after by the team whilst there.
The welcome was warm, friendly and genuine. We had lots of questions which were answered very patiently and professionally by the reception staff. Every member of staff we encountered in the corridors always gave us a friendly greeting. Our room was spotless and spacious with lots of nice touches. The tube and bus stop was a few minutes away and we were on Oxford street within 20 minutes.

I have stayed in many Marriotts, but this one has probably the largest rooms and also is located pretty much at the heart of London. In other words very comfortable stay in a very well connected location in London. The Underground is only 3 mins away, and lots of bus connections. In fact I had to stay here for quite a few weeks and found out that there are enough conveniences around for one to be able to enable such a stay - restaurants, convenience stores, supermarkets, launderette nearby.

The rooms, are clean, beds are comfortable. The food is OK. There are good restaurants in the lobby. The folks at the reception are helpful. The service staff is great. In fact they take quite good care of guests.

The only downside I found here was the air-conditioning controls were a bit dated and I couldn't quite get the automatic temperature control under control ! And yes, the gym/pool have to be accessed from the outside.
