Owner description: Most of this iconic building was built in the mid-19th century following a devastating fire in 1834. Westminster Hall survived the fire and dates from 1097. Visitors can book tours through the House of Commons and the House of Lords, and are welcome to watch debates and committees when the Houses are sitting..

“Fantastic Visit Dreadful Advance Ticketing System”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

This actual tour is deserving of a 5-Star rating without doubt. Such history stretching back far beyond the 19th Century period of the current Palace of Westminster.

The building is a quite magnificent defiance made even more appealing by the fact that it is a true working environment and not just show.

The Guide we had was of quite outstanding quality - deeply knowledgeable, irreverent and philosophical in respect of the political systems past and present!

Now for the advance ticketing system. We booked our guided tour well in advance with no problems other than the total lack of instruction or direction about where to collect the tickets from or how to enter the Palace. I researched via the internet a found a few pointers from other disgruntled advance bookers. This didn't help and it was only helpful policemen who put us right!

Even when we joined the entrance queue, having finally picked up the tickets,m&e almost missed our allotted tour time as there was no pointer to the fact that the queue contained many who had later tours. We barged to the front and were promptly told that we were late! Hopeless - the staff seeing us in agreed.

Fantastic place to visit but the advance ticketing is unbelievably badly organised!

“Best tour in London”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

First of all, our guide Fernando was great. Our family of four, including two teens, felt it was the most interesting site and tour guide in London. It's just really interesting to see and learn about the place where politics happens - even if it's not your own country.

“Loved it!!”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

I dont know why I thought you could only visit when Parliament was sitting & through your MP. I think its probably better to go while its in recess as you can take your time looking around & go into both the Commons & Lords chambers. We did the self guided audio tour & took it at our own pace- listening -to all the bonus extras took a total of 2 hours. I think you could do it in just over an hour if you got on with it & didnt keep sitting down to gaze at the ceilings!
Our 2 teenage children liked it as well though maybe they would have preferred the 1 hour version. I would highly recommend though maybe not suitable for younger children although I believe they have a youngsters audio guide available

“Superb ”

Irrespective of what anyone thinks of today's politicians, this is a superb tour through the history of the palace. Steeped in history, stories, and procedures. Found it fascinating - superb. Tour guide very knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

“Interesting Tour”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

Impressive from the outside, it's well worth taking a tour of the inside during recess.
To arrange a tour when you're in the area, from the Houses of Parliament walk over the bridge, turn right and the office is just across the road.
We took an audio tour - the equipment was easy to use and the commentary is very informative. It was fascinating to see inside, particularly the House of Commons. Because of timed entrances for tours it was uncrowded inside and the tour can be taken at your own pace.
