“Nice to see once”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2014

Wow this was long and drawn out. Instead of "changing of the guard" they have made it into a showpiece. I saw it many many years ago and they changed the guard and that was it. Now they added a band that sets up and plays the theme to James Bond. There are hundreds and hundreds of people trying to take pics so it's hard to see. I had a good spot, but it was hot, long and really not worth it. I would have been happy to take pics of the palace when hundreds of people weren't crowded together like sardines.

“Changing of the Guard - The most common way to experience Buckingham Palace”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2014

The most common way to experience Buckingham Palace is to catch the daily Changing of the Guard ceremony held in front of the palace at 11.30am. This is a 350 year tradition that is well worth trying to watch if you are able to visit during the daily ceremony times.

There is usually a mob of tourists lined up against the palace gates, trying to take photos. Keep this in mind and try to arrive early if you want unobstructed views. Or just wait a while and many will leave, allowing you room to find better vantage points for viewing. The ceremony is around 45 minutes long.

In addition to the 11.30am morning ceremony at Buckingham Palace, you can also watch an earlier daily ceremony at the Horse Guards Arch at 11.00am. This is just on the other side of St. James Park at the Horse Guard Parade grounds on Whitehall. You can also see the Changing of the Guard at Windsor Castle at 11.00am daily as well.

To learn more about the history of the guards and this age old tradition or the actual Guard Regiments then you might want to consider visiting The Guards Museum on the south side of St. James Park just off Birdcage Rd. no more than 10 minutes walk from Buckingham Palace.

“It's ok”

We went along to see the changing of the guard as we heard it was kind of a "must see" attraction in London. However, we were kind of disappointed. So many people (most of whom have no sense of a persons need of some personal space) and honestly to get a good enough spot to see, you need to get there super early and wait. I'm glad we saw it, but I don't think it's essential. If you are on the fence about going - maybe give it a miss. Plenty of other great London attractions to see!

“must see”

The ceremony is held at about 11:30AM. But you need to get there early and try to find a good spot. There are so many people. And as police saying, keeps an eye of your belongings, especiailly your kid and your wife:)
