Lucky enough to be within a few metres of the security gates on the early evening when the Prime Minister chose to make a short public statement from a lectern in the road outside the black door and opposite the world’s press. The point where he stood seemed to have been positioned so as not to be in direct line of sight from most people standing in Whitehall and the sheer weight of numbers meant that few of us could catch any glimpse but there was a good deal of organised shouting as he spoke which we were later pleased to hear was clearly and distinctly audible on TV replays. This was one of the more interesting weeks of the current upheaval, the last days before prorogation, loss of the vote to activate the Fixed Term Parliament Act, the loss of the government Commons majority by one defection and the ejection of 21 MPs from the party. 10 Downing St had, at least temporarily become a greater focus of national attention than even Parliament Sq or the palace.

Not much to see except for the street sign but we saw a lot of civil servants leaving through security before the protest march started.

Downing street is now completely barricaded and heavily guarded for security reasons. You cannot see number 10 any more.

If you are in the area, it might be worth having a quick look, but it’s definitely not worth going out of your way for. It’s totally gated off and heavily guarded (understandably), and was full of vans when we visited. We could barely see any of the buildings. We got a very brief glimpse of the building where number 10 is, but it’s quite difficult to even see it from a distance. Children won’t be able to see anything.

It’s not a tourist must see in my opinion.
