Hidden away in the Guildhall Yard in an unprepossessing modern building. Inside is delightfully quiet (apart from occasional group visits) and there is a fantastic collection of painting, London paintings and of course the Roman Amphitheater. We were lucky enough that our visit coincided with an Anniversary for Tower Bridge (120 years). In the summer it is also fantastically air conditioned!

Have to admit we only had a quick peek at the art gallery. Though one picture caught my eye and the staff member in the room went out of her way to tell me about it which was good.

The Roman amphitheatre in the basement was the real reason for our visit. Sorry!
Anyway well worth the visit to see it, though you do have to kind of try to imagine where it would sit in things lay out wise. Maybe a map of Londinium at the time and where it sat in it would help?
All staff were friendly and helpful.

I visited the Guildhall Gallery on spec and what a treat it was. No queues, no entrance fee, few other tourists and a great collection of quality artworks. In the basement is a well-presented display of the remnants of a roman amphitheatre uncovered in recent years. You need about an hour or so to do justice and then you can join the throngs and handover your money at St Paul's Cathedral.

This is a very interesting collection of mostly Victorian paintings, with the bonus of an excavated Roman amphitheatre in the basement. The architecture of the guildhall itself is beautiful, and the area (the City) is one that I wouldn't otherwise have explored, although St. Paul's is also close by.

This is a wonderful art gallery with lots of information to help you read the pictures. Very quiet for a Friday which was bliss. We attended a free tour. The Roman Amphitheatre at the bottom is the icing on the cake. Highly Recommended.
