We've spent here 10 nights. Pros - Room number 2 was very clean with modern spacious bathroom. Bed was comfortable. wardrobe was big enough. Bus stops are near the guest house. 10 mins walk is McDonald which we used for breakfast. Cons - minimum storage space, 2 little bedsides and 1 little table for tea/coffee. You could hear everything above you. Every night we've heard squeaking. During 1 night somebody in room number 1 which is next this room had a party with loud music. This night was the worst! This guest house is very good but noisy!

Dear MatejSimko,

Thank you for taking the time to review our guest house.

We are pleased to read you enjoyed your stay at the guest house. We are proud of our spacious rooms and modern en-suite bathrooms in our guest house and are glad you also enjoyed them, as well as the location of the guest house being just a few minutes walk from Clapham High street with many café, restaurants and bars to enjoy during the evening after a busy day in the city.

We are continually looking for ways to improve the guest house, and will take yours and others feedback into consideration when doing so. We hold a strict no-party policy at the guest house, and do all we can to enforce this, we were made aware of this and this is why the 'party' did not continue on any further evenings during your stay.

We look forward to seeing you at the guest house once more.

Until then, All the best.

Very clean and comfortable.
Not really an hotel, but a good room with a new bath with a shower.
Breakfast may be included, but you have to walk for a while. Good if you like English breakfast, otherwise it is better to go nerby (North Street is full of pub, bar, restaurants, ... .

There is no sign, but the street address is clearly shown so it wasn't too hard to find. It is a bit far from the train if you have a lot of baggage (about a 10 minute walk) but the very nice man at reception told us where the closest bus stop is which is much more manageable (although we just used the trains as we knew them better). Very clean room and bathroom--the room is small but if you are expecting a large room in London you will have to pay much more. It was plenty comfortable, and we never even saw another guest so it was nice and quiet. Our window opened right to the road which I was fine with but I guess if you are an incredibly light sleeper you may not like the noise from the road. Overall this is a great place to stay, after reading reviews of other hotels it seems like there are a lot of small dirty places to stay outside of London so I was very excited to arrive and see how comfortable and clean this place was. Definitely would recommend staying here.

Dear Moshan4,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review our guest house. We are pleased to see that you found the location of the guest house just right, and of course you can always hop on a bus from the station with a bus stop just outside the guest house to accommodate those guests with a lot of luggage, alternatively we can book a taxi to meet you at the station or even the airport, making your transfer that little bit easier. We are glad to read that you found the guest house quiet, and we want to make our guests feel at home when staying with us, though ensuring we give all the information we can to our guests to make travelling around the city that little less stressful.
We are very glad to see that you appreciated our efforts and hope that we will see you at our guest house again, when you next visit London. We’d like to thank you once again for this lovely review and wish you all the best!

lovely room and really nice bathroom! (big and modern shower)
situation nice, there is a lovely park at ten minutes walk
but for the centre of London we need to take the underground at 15 minutes walk.
reception very bad: they were not there most of the time and if we didn't write e-mail for our arrival they would probably not have been there!!
It's really not easy to find the address from the Clapham Junction station, we had to ask people in the street and finally take a bus...
We had a fan the first day but after 1 night they took it , and it was very hot so I asked why we didn't have a fan any more and they told us that they had to take it because an other room needed it! we were confused!!!
If you want a bathroom, be careful; some rooms don't have bathroom! There is a public bathroom and a public toilet in first floor. And I know a room doesn't have any window!

I think it'y OK for 1 night or 2 nights maybe...but like i said, it's really hard to organize ourselves because the reception is close most of the time! However it was 2 nice days for my boyfriend and me!

Dear Lynn T,

Thank you for taking the time to review our guest house. We are always pleased to hear from our guests about their experiences with us and there visit to London.

The unexpected mid-July heatwave came as a surprise to all of us, as such we were not prepared for this unusual British weather, however please note we have taken all our guests comments regarding this on board and will ensure we will be more prepared in the future.

As a small guest house, we believe one of our big advantages is the comfort and relaxed feel our guest house offers, hidden away on a busy road and with guests left to enjoy their stay without too much staff interference, our aim is to provide a home away from home for our guests.

We also are in the process of reviewing our reception hours, and this is due to comments and reviews such as yours that allow us to look into these things.

You are correct in your review, some of our rooms are not en-suite, as many of our guests like to enjoy the city whilst on a budget and all they need is a place to rest their heads after a long day of exploring the capital. All these rooms are advertised as not being en-suite so none of our guests are made to share a bathroom.

We do hope you will come back to visit us and our beautiful city of London.

Kindest Regards,

Danielle Mort

Upon arriving at Clapham Guest House late Sunday morning, July 14th, my husband I were initially confused about whether or not we were at the correct address! The lack of sign or any indication that we were at a guest house left me a bit panicky as the taxi drove away – but alas we had arrived. We immediately realized that the doors were locked and a sign was in place saying that Clapham reception was closed, without an indication of when they would re-open. A phone number was listed for the guest house’s sister hotel but since we do not have a cell phone that operates in the UK this was of no use to us. After buzzing for quite some time, a housekeeper answered the door. She didn’t say anything but beckoned us inside and disappeared to the back of the house. A young woman, clearly having been awakened from bed and still in her nightgown, greeted us. She was kind and helpful and took time to show us maps of London and the tube system and give us transportation advice.

We were in room #2, an interior room on the ground floor, which my husband and I would affectionately come to know as “the sweatbox.” The room was spacious and clean with an enormous private bathroom and very nice shower. However, there were no windows and the one door that opened to the outside and may have provided some relief from the stifling temperatures, was locked.

Undeterred, we dropped off our baggage and headed to Central London for the day. That night we arrived back at the hotel near midnight and found the room to be unbearably hot. All we needed for some relief was fan and a key to the elusive outside door. Unfortunately, reception at the guest house closed at 10:00 pm and no one answered the bright red “24 hour” courtesy phone which purportedly connected with Chelsea Guest House down the road. We barely slept at all.

The next day we were up and out before reception opened. When we returned they had again closed. I called on the red “24 hour” reception line and this time someone answered! I asked for a fan and was told someone would get back to me shortly. A few minutes later the young woman who had checked us in came by and said that they were out of fans but that we could have a key to the veranda door. However, she sternly mentioned that we were not permitted to venture out on the patio. Without explanation – she then left. Some sort of state secret must have been out on that patio to necessitate such a warning!

The next day, while in London, we purchased a very small, very expensive and largely ineffective fan from a department store. That night my husband called the “24 hour” reception line at the Chelsea and had what could only be described as a very bizarre conversation. He enquired about the possibility of obtaining a fan to which he was directed to the Clapham’s reception office. He explained that we had tried that already but no one was responding to repeated knocks though it was within operational hours and the door was slightly ajar. After this was explained to the individual at Chelsea, and a fan once again requested, the Chelsea receptionist stated “that since your reception is closed I am not going to answer that question.” My husband again explained that the reception office was indeed open and that no one was responding. He was told that someone would be with us shortly. A short time later a man popped out and apologized that there was still no fan (night 3). He assured us that we would receive one the next night after the people who had “it” checked out.

Nights 4 and 5 we gratefully were able to sleep in relative comfort after having received the fan. I understand that a heat wave in London is not the fault of this establishment. However, in a city where central AC is not routine, I believe that the guest house should have a fan for every room – especially interior rooms without windows or ready access to the outside.

Other minor complaints:
• Very thin walls – you could hear every movement from neighboring rooms and the people above.
• Total lack of storage space in the room or bathroom. There are NO shelves besides one tiny one above the sink. We literally had to balance our toiletry bags on the furnace and put our stuff on the floors.
• The tea pot had old water in it when we arrived. The bottom was scaly and full of scum. Decided not to have tea at Clapham after that!
• Receptions hours are totally inconvenient for busy tourists as we generally left before they opened and returned after they closed.
• The “24 hour” reception phone was of limited use because they didn’t always answer and when they did they were rude 50% of the time.

Overall – we don’t recommend Clapham Guest House. It was disappointing though has potential as it is located in a very active and interesting neighborhood with easy access to Central London.

Dear CorgiButtercup,

Thank you for taking your time to review our guest house. Feedback from our guests is vitally important for us and can be used to improve areas which our guests feel are important to them whilst staying away from home.

As a small guest house located in the city, unfortunately we do not operate a 24 hour reception. The reception operating times are written on all our booking channels to ensure our guests are aware of this. We will always contact all guests, where possible, prior to their stay and collect a time of arrival so that we can ensure there is someone available to greet and check in the guests to the guest house as well as providing any information, directions, hints and tips for visiting the city. Although we do not have a 24 hour reception, there is always someone available to help if our guests require any help or need information during their stay.

The mid-July heat wave, as lovely as it was, came as a shock to us all. As the British weather is usually wet and unpredictable we have not needed the use for fans in each room of the guest house before, however we have learnt from this year and we will ensure we are prepared for the future.

Although we cannot control the British weather, we can control our guest service, and I am sorry to hear that you felt this way about our staff at our sister guest house. I can assure you that I have taken your comment on board and acted accordingly. We are constantly looking for ways to improve guest services at the guest house through training and other methods and reviews such as yours help us to do this, so once again thank you for your review.

As you mention in your review our rooms are spacious, bathrooms large and clean, also mentioning that we are located in a very active and interesting neighbourhood, and tucked back off the main road we believe it is the ideal place for a business person, or weary tourist to rest their heads after a busy and bustling day visiting the centre of London, all of which are just a bus ride away from the guest house.

Once more I thank you for your review and do hope that you will return to Clapham Guest House to see our improvements, and once more enjoy the beautiful delights London has to offer everyone, whatever their tastes or budget.

Kindest Regards,

Danielle Mort

The young lady on reception was great. Very helpful and explained very patiently how to get into inner London. Excellent value for money and I would echo it's not the quietest place due to the main road. Great location nr to Clapham Common and transport into London. Would definitely visit again.

trip to london with my daughters , and will definately stay again. staff friendly and great for travel advice as we were trying to get to the O2 . with tube problems they found us another route and we were there in 25 mins using the overhead railway.
towels changed everyday, tea and coffee supplies in abundance for when we got back from hectic days in London. Bus outside was brilliant , straight into parliament square and Clapham common tube was only a 10min walk away. only negative comment was the road noice outside , but as we were there during a great sunny spell , we had to keep the windows open to stay cool overnight .

Room Tip: family room is great for 4 , but can get a bit stuffy due to bieng at the top of the house

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for reviewing our guest house, and such a lovely review too. We always try to ensure our guests have a pleasant and enjoyable stay in London, and try to make sure it is as stress free as possible. When London has issues with the transport links, it can majorly affect the outcome of a trip or event so I am pleased to hear the team were able to find you an alternative solution and you enjoyed your event.
Our housekeeping team work hard every day to ensure our guests return to a clean and fresh room after a day in the city and ensure you have everything you need on your return.
Our location is on the Wandsworth Road, which by bus can lead directly into the centre of London within 20 minutes to Westminster, Parliament Square, Trafalgar Square and more.
We hope you enjoyed your visit to London, and hope your next visit will be just as splendid and perhaps next time we can book some sightseeing tours for you at the guest house to enjoy in City, especially if the weather is a good.
We look forward to seeing you again, and thank you once more for your review.
