We stayed here from August 11-16. Our confirmation from booking.com said that check-in was from 3:00-9:00 PM, but when we arrived around 4:00 PM, there was a sign saying that they were at their sister hotel, and left a number to call. However, as we were from the US, we didn't have a phone with which to call, which meant we had to walk down the road a half mile or so with all of our luggage. It seems to me that this problem could've been avoided if they simply communicated a bit better about checking in upon booking. We stayed in one of the en-suite rooms, and were pleased with the size and cleanliness. The bathroom in particular was huge and seemed pretty new. The room we were in didn't have any windows other than a bathroom skylight which was too high to reach. There was a back door that led outside, but it was locked. Therefore the room could get stuffy. However, the receptionist was able to get us a fan, which helped immensely. The cleaning person came each day and provided us with whatever we needed. The bed was comfortable, outside of the fact that the bed frame was broken in one corner which made the mattress collapse closer to the floor on that side. The television, as others have pointed out, is mounted strangely high on the wall, and is hard to watch from anywhere on the bed. There was a large closet, which helped with storing our piles of luggage. The neighborhood was great, and the guest house is only about a ten minute walk from the Clapham Common stop, a walk filled with cool shops and restaurants. Overall, probably more like 3.5 stars, and, even with the problems, a really great place to stay for the price.

Dear Cetperry,

We greatly appreciate this extensive review of your stay at Clapham Guest House and hope that you enjoyed your stay in London.
As a small guest house, we try to use our staff as best as possible, so we are happy that someone was able to promptly provide you with a fan, as this has been an exceptionally warm summer in England. We’re trying to make it easier for guests to communicate with the other guest house, and are currently in the process of making chances to avoid unfortunate situations like yourselves. We are glad however that your small walk through the neighbourhood gave you the chance to enjoy the small shops in Clapham, an area now famous for its eclectic treats.
We have taken your suggestions into account and will look into ways in which we can improve our rooms and service and hope that you will visit us again to see the results. We thank you once again and look forward to hearing from you again!

Best regards,
Paul

When we arrived at the room the was no one on reception just a note by the door informing us to go to a sister Hotel reception (about a mile away). When we arrived at the sister hotel there was no one at that reception desk either with another message saying they had gone to the hotel we had just come from and would be back in 20 mins. 30 minutes later they arrived back. So it took us over an hour to check in. The rooms where clean and comfortable but the TV was mounted next to the ceiling. the only way you could watch it is by standing on the opposite side of the room you could not watch it from the bed or chair. There is no on suite facilities however there are couple of bathrooms and toilets and they were very clean and modern.

Dear Stephen J,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your recent visit.

As we are a small accommodation, from time to time our reception is closed at Clapham Guest House and we run the operation from our larger guest house just 5 minutes walk down the road. However for our guests convenience there is a sign with the sister guest house telephone number that guests can call and a receptionist will be sent immediately to check-in our waiting guests.

On this occasion, which may I add is a rare occasion, it appears the paths of yourself and our receptionists have crossed over as the receptionist was on the way to check-in guests that had called the number. We do strive to ensure we contact all our guests before they check-in to see if there is anything we can help with such as directions, booking taxis and also we take this time to ask our guests for an estimated arrival time, so we can ensure a receptionist is there, ready to check-in the guests when they arrive.

We do hope this was the only setback of your visit, that you enjoyed the sights of London and we hope you will once more visit the guest house, so we can show to you we are continually listening to our guests feedback, and improving our service to you.

Kindest Regards,

Danielle Mort

We stayed for one night. It was very clean and quiet. The internet was free and unlimited. Tea and coffee making facilities were available in the room. Shampoo was available in the shower room - not all hotels have it. The staff was very friendly, helpful with directions and very caring and understanding. My friend was ill. When we left we asked the reception to call a taxi but it did not arrive. The receptionist of the house was very friendly, took good care of us and gave us another room where we could comfortably wait until she sorted it out, although it was not her problem at all. She kept calm and maintained pleasant attitude even when the taxi company and later on the driver behaved very badly towards her.

Dear Mari268,

We thank you for this kind review of our guest house.

We pride ourselves on being able to offer all the commodity's we believe guests need when staying away from home. Tea and Coffee are included in all our rooms, along with the free & unlimited Wi-Fi and soft towels.

I am pleased to see, our receptionist was able to look after all your needs and was caring and understanding. We are sorry to hear your friend was unwell during your visit, but do hope they have made a full recovery.

I have also spoken with the taxi company and dealt with this matter personally, I am sorry you had this experience with them, but I am pleased the situation was resolved effectively and efficiently by our lovely receptionist.

We do hope you will return to Clapham Guest House, and we look forward to seeing you once more.

We've spent here 10 nights. Pros - Room number 2 was very clean with modern spacious bathroom. Bed was comfortable. wardrobe was big enough. Bus stops are near the guest house. 10 mins walk is McDonald which we used for breakfast. Cons - minimum storage space, 2 little bedsides and 1 little table for tea/coffee. You could hear everything above you. Every night we've heard squeaking. During 1 night somebody in room number 1 which is next this room had a party with loud music. This night was the worst! This guest house is very good but noisy!

Dear MatejSimko,

Thank you for taking the time to review our guest house.

We are pleased to read you enjoyed your stay at the guest house. We are proud of our spacious rooms and modern en-suite bathrooms in our guest house and are glad you also enjoyed them, as well as the location of the guest house being just a few minutes walk from Clapham High street with many café, restaurants and bars to enjoy during the evening after a busy day in the city.

We are continually looking for ways to improve the guest house, and will take yours and others feedback into consideration when doing so. We hold a strict no-party policy at the guest house, and do all we can to enforce this, we were made aware of this and this is why the 'party' did not continue on any further evenings during your stay.

We look forward to seeing you at the guest house once more.

Until then, All the best.

Kind Regards,

Very clean and comfortable.
Not really an hotel, but a good room with a new bath with a shower.
Breakfast may be included, but you have to walk for a while. Good if you like English breakfast, otherwise it is better to go nerby (North Street is full of pub, bar, restaurants, ... .

There is no sign, but the street address is clearly shown so it wasn't too hard to find. It is a bit far from the train if you have a lot of baggage (about a 10 minute walk) but the very nice man at reception told us where the closest bus stop is which is much more manageable (although we just used the trains as we knew them better). Very clean room and bathroom--the room is small but if you are expecting a large room in London you will have to pay much more. It was plenty comfortable, and we never even saw another guest so it was nice and quiet. Our window opened right to the road which I was fine with but I guess if you are an incredibly light sleeper you may not like the noise from the road. Overall this is a great place to stay, after reading reviews of other hotels it seems like there are a lot of small dirty places to stay outside of London so I was very excited to arrive and see how comfortable and clean this place was. Definitely would recommend staying here.

Dear Moshan4,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review our guest house. We are pleased to see that you found the location of the guest house just right, and of course you can always hop on a bus from the station with a bus stop just outside the guest house to accommodate those guests with a lot of luggage, alternatively we can book a taxi to meet you at the station or even the airport, making your transfer that little bit easier. We are glad to read that you found the guest house quiet, and we want to make our guests feel at home when staying with us, though ensuring we give all the information we can to our guests to make travelling around the city that little less stressful.
We are very glad to see that you appreciated our efforts and hope that we will see you at our guest house again, when you next visit London. We’d like to thank you once again for this lovely review and wish you all the best!

lovely room and really nice bathroom! (big and modern shower)
situation nice, there is a lovely park at ten minutes walk
but for the centre of London we need to take the underground at 15 minutes walk.
reception very bad: they were not there most of the time and if we didn't write e-mail for our arrival they would probably not have been there!!
It's really not easy to find the address from the Clapham Junction station, we had to ask people in the street and finally take a bus...
We had a fan the first day but after 1 night they took it , and it was very hot so I asked why we didn't have a fan any more and they told us that they had to take it because an other room needed it! we were confused!!!
If you want a bathroom, be careful; some rooms don't have bathroom! There is a public bathroom and a public toilet in first floor. And I know a room doesn't have any window!

I think it'y OK for 1 night or 2 nights maybe...but like i said, it's really hard to organize ourselves because the reception is close most of the time! However it was 2 nice days for my boyfriend and me!

Dear Lynn T,

Thank you for taking the time to review our guest house. We are always pleased to hear from our guests about their experiences with us and there visit to London.

The unexpected mid-July heatwave came as a surprise to all of us, as such we were not prepared for this unusual British weather, however please note we have taken all our guests comments regarding this on board and will ensure we will be more prepared in the future.

As a small guest house, we believe one of our big advantages is the comfort and relaxed feel our guest house offers, hidden away on a busy road and with guests left to enjoy their stay without too much staff interference, our aim is to provide a home away from home for our guests.

We also are in the process of reviewing our reception hours, and this is due to comments and reviews such as yours that allow us to look into these things.

You are correct in your review, some of our rooms are not en-suite, as many of our guests like to enjoy the city whilst on a budget and all they need is a place to rest their heads after a long day of exploring the capital. All these rooms are advertised as not being en-suite so none of our guests are made to share a bathroom.

We do hope you will come back to visit us and our beautiful city of London.

Kindest Regards,

Danielle Mort
