Owner description: St Martin-in-the-Fields is a landmark. Its fine Georgian architecture and prominent location place it at the heart of the nation. Its work has valued historic tradition, but St Martin’s has always been innovative in response to changing needs. From London’s first free lending library to the first religious broadcast, St Martin’s has broken new ground in defining what it means to be a church. Solidifying its position for years to come, St Martin's has an award-winning cafe, puts on concerts with London's best musicians, and hosts fantastic events in its unique subterranean spaces. Free lunchtime concerts take place every Monday, Tuesday and Friday, a fantastic way to hear both established and emerging stars of the classical scene. As well as the fantastic food on offer in the Cafe in the Crypt, during the summer months St Martin's opens the Cafe in the Courtyard, offering a host of al fresco delights.

St. Martin in the Fields is a wonderful place to attend church, but it goes much further in offering some of the best deals for musical performances in the entire city. They have many music festivals, and one of the best happens at the same time as the BBC Proms. They do chamber music by candlelight, and every concert is highly recommended as they have only the best performers who present the finest programs. They also have many free noon recitals during the year as well as a number of other musical performances in the evenings. Visit their web site to see what is playing while you're in the city and know that whatever you select will be worthwhile. As an historic location, it's a must-see. All of the scaffolding that had plagued both the interior and the exterior in recent years is now gone and you can see everything in its bright, clean splendidness. The crypt café will give you a great place for a light snack in another historic location.

We visited this beautiful church twice during our recent week in London - once just to look around, and once to attend an evening concert. We discovered that concerts are frequently held here & it is the perfect venue to enjoy classical music. Downstairs you find a restaurant, gallery and shop - an unexpected surprise, and quite different from the serene beauty of the church upstairs. We will most definitely visit again on our next trip to London and look forward to attending another delightful concert here.

I wandered in just out of curiosity, and I found myself marveling at the splendour of this old church. It is historically and ethnically diverse, offering a little something for everyone.

We went for a concert of chamber music to St. Martin-in-the-Fields, off Trafalgar Square and near to the National Gallery in London. The concert (August 15th 2014) was in the church, a Royal church, which has excellent acoustics.

The concert of works by Handel, Vivaldi and Bach by the Belmont Ensemble of London gave us pure delight.

The concerts are thoroughly recommended.
