“Excellent Value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 October 2005

We have stayed in a variety of accomodation types in London and believe we have finally found the right combination of value, service, cleanliness, comfort and location. Our room at the Darlington was quite spacious by English standards with and ensuite bath that included a tub and shower. The staff was very helpful with everything from providing directions to dining recommendations. The breakfast was cooked to order and provided good variety. Highly recommened.

What a great start to a family holiday in London. A "family room" gave us two separate rooms (one with a double bed, one with a single bed). The rooms were joined via a small entrance way and a lovely bathroom in the middle. Each room had a television, our son's with a DVD player and a small fridge. This fufilled all the needs for us travelling with a 5 year old. The hotel was clean, safe and very convenient. The staff helpful and polite, providing extra bandaids when required! As with the reviews that led me to choose the Darlington, I would highly recommend it.

Stayed at the Darlington following a recommendation in this forum and wasn't disappointed. There's nothing extravagant about the rooms, but they are clean, well appointed, very tidy. Breakfast was continental or a cooked english, but there was plenty in the continental for me (but no croissants!).
Although booked into a single I was upgraded to a double at no extra cost. Staff were very friendly and helpful - few of them were English, most seemed French. Location is good. Although it's called the Hyde Park, it's probably best to think of this as a Paddington Hotel, since Paddington Station and Praed Street are closer than Hyde Park. Enjoyed my stay and will definitely come back.

I stayed at the Darlington based on reviews I read on this site. I was favourably impressed save that my room (a single I will admit) was the smallest hotel room I think I have ever stayed in. That said, it was spotlessly clean and my room was quiet, if a bit stuffy as there did not appear to be any air conditioning. The shower was great and as I was leaving early the next morning the receptionist offered to bring a tray to the room that evening with some breakfast I could put in the fridge to have before I left.

The staff I encountered were extremely friendly and I got a reasonable rate on laterooms. I walked from Paddington and to Marylebone stations from the hotel, Paddington about 5 and Marylebone about 10 minutes.

All in all a very good experience.

I stayed a week in August at The Darlington, my second stay there. It was geographically convenient, the breakfast staff and food were excellent, the room was great (I asked for a front room with 2 windows) and extremely clean. A couple of afternoons after pub crawls, it was a bit warm, but the staff promptly brought in a second fan. Again, I was there during a hot month, and it was uncomfortable only for a couple of hours in the afternoon. I went to just relax and enjoy the locals. There were a couple of great restaurants within a block or two (one French one to die for--Christine's, I think), and 4 pubs that are great meeting places. The prices of rooms vary a great deal, depending on whom you are booking through; I worked with LondonTown for room, theatre tickets, and transportation. They were terrific to work with.

I have stayed in London many times and for the price, this is a wonderful place.

This is a great hotel for the money. No frills, but who goes to London to sit in their hotel room anyway. If you require room service and a doorman, there is a nice Hilton nearby for about twice what the Darlington costs, and that doesn’t include breakfast!
Positives: Great rate - includes a decent breakfast. Rooms are a good size (for London). Great staff. Convenient to Paddington Station (Heathrow Express, Bakerloo, Circle, and City lines - 15 minutes to Piccadilly Circus). Walk to Hyde Park / Kensington. Many wonderful restaurants and pubs within 10 minutes walk of the hotel. Paddington is a decent neighborhood, and as with most places in London is pretty safe (much more so than other cities of comparable size).
Negatives: If you are not use to city noise, you may have trouble sleeping (the same can be said for most hotels in London).
Suggestions: Ventilation in the laundry room (the humidity and heat is unbearable while trying to iron clothes!)

Great hotel in a convenient location with extremely helpful staff. We had a blast in London and really enjoyed our stay at the Darlington.
