“Very pleased with the Darlington”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 October 2005

We spent 5 nights in mid-October at the Darlington and were very pleased -- the room was larger than expected, as was the bathroom. We loved having a small fridge and the large, plush towels! The laundry room was much appreciated after having spent the 2 previous weeks on a narrow boat with no access to laundry facilities. They had even listened to the complaints about the hair dryers and supplied a brand new one in the desk drawer. The breakfast room was light and spacious, the breakfast choices were many, and the 2 young women working there were so pleasant.

The rest of the staff was also pleasant and helpful. We were leaving early on our last morning and mentioned that to the front desk staff. They kindly offered to bring up a breakfast tray for us that evening which we never expected, but certainly appreciated.

All this and only 2 block from Paddington Station and about 5 from Hyde Park.

The only drawback was the road noise, but we had ear plugs and would ask for a back room next time.

We have already recommended the Darlington to our friends. What a find!

We stayed here during october 2005 and had two rooms. Both were downstairs(Nos 2 and 3). Nos 3 appears to be right below reception and the noise of the squeaky floorboards was disconcerting and started quite early in the morning - usually about 6.00am. So our mornings started wondering about the ability of the floorboards to cope with the load. Dont get room nos 3 - in fact be careful of any of the rooms downstairs.

That said everything else is well above average and is in a good location. I would give it another try on my next visit. One suggestion would be to make the special coffee's(eg latte's etc)free rather than charging one pound. Just strikes me as a bit mean given the rates that are charged.

Our top five requirements in choosing a London Hotel were more than met at the Darlington Arms! The exceptionly located hotel had a triple security system: front door access; stair/elevator access; room access. The sparkling white walls, the spotless bathrooms and the immaculate rooms met every cleanliness standard. The young and enthusiastic staff both at the desk and in the breakfast room answered our every question and served every need we presented. The breakfast-both continental and full English-was ample as well as fresh and tasty. The accommodations (Rm 103) were more than adequate with a good-sized bedroom featuring floor to ceiling windows. The bath itself was large and sparkling clean with the same floor to ceiling windows. And finally, the bed was firm and comfortable with great cotton sheets and lots of pillows. The bath provided large absorbent towels and both rooms were freshened every day. And all this for under $200 a day. You better believe we will return to this hotel!

Our party stayed at the Darlington based on reviews in this forum, and it actually turned out to be better than I expected. The single room I had was unbelievably small, but the price was right, and the two double rooms we had for our party were adequate. We had requested rooms at the back of the hotel, so we were not bothered by any of the noise that some of the other reviewers comment on. The staff were all extremely accommodating to us and friendly, and the lower rates at the Darlington while in London allowed us to splurge on more expensive places out in the English countryside. All in all the Darlington is clean and is basically what it purports to be---not more or less---so I felt we got good value for our money. I would also recommend Geales for fish and chips over in Notting Hill, although it is hard to find and even the cabbie didn't know where it was. All in all, the Darlington was a sensible choice for us for staying two nights in London, and, given that one is rarely in a hotel room while in that fascinating city, it worked out well. Thanks, Trip Advisor, for this travel tip!

We have stayed in a variety of accomodation types in London and believe we have finally found the right combination of value, service, cleanliness, comfort and location. Our room at the Darlington was quite spacious by English standards with and ensuite bath that included a tub and shower. The staff was very helpful with everything from providing directions to dining recommendations. The breakfast was cooked to order and provided good variety. Highly recommened.

What a great start to a family holiday in London. A "family room" gave us two separate rooms (one with a double bed, one with a single bed). The rooms were joined via a small entrance way and a lovely bathroom in the middle. Each room had a television, our son's with a DVD player and a small fridge. This fufilled all the needs for us travelling with a 5 year old. The hotel was clean, safe and very convenient. The staff helpful and polite, providing extra bandaids when required! As with the reviews that led me to choose the Darlington, I would highly recommend it.

Stayed at the Darlington following a recommendation in this forum and wasn't disappointed. There's nothing extravagant about the rooms, but they are clean, well appointed, very tidy. Breakfast was continental or a cooked english, but there was plenty in the continental for me (but no croissants!).
Although booked into a single I was upgraded to a double at no extra cost. Staff were very friendly and helpful - few of them were English, most seemed French. Location is good. Although it's called the Hyde Park, it's probably best to think of this as a Paddington Hotel, since Paddington Station and Praed Street are closer than Hyde Park. Enjoyed my stay and will definitely come back.
