“Stay June 23-26, 2014”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014

We stayed at The Sanctuary House Hotel from June 23-26, 2014, after a British Isle cruise. We were celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and we were very pleased with our stay at the hotel. We were in Room 505 and were surprised to find the room very large and the spacious bathroom. We had requested a nice quiet room and our wishes were filled. We were greeted at check in by Franceska and she was very pleasant. I also met Damjan and he was very nice and helpful. We had a big brownie awaiting us in our room. Also, we had a small fridge with bottled water in it. There also are tea biscuits and coffee and teas in the room. All this is replenished daily. There is some construction going on around the outside of the hotel; however, the work does not start until later in the morning and this was never a problem for us as we were off touring by the time this started. The only negative comment is the room could use more lighting at night, especially for reading. The location is perfect. We walked everywhere - Big Ben, Parliament, Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey, Albert Pub, Downing Street, and to catch the ferry for The Tower of London. We were thrilled with the location. Fuller's Pub was great to have right there. Our room included a full English Breakfast so we ate in the restaurant twice for breakfast and had room service the last morning. We had dinner in the Pub several evenings. The fish and chips were good. The service was slow at times but all the waitresses were very nice and pleasant to talk to. I would highly recommend The Sanctuary House Hotel and I look forward to returning in the future. Also, we had a knock on the door one afternoon and it was a hotel staff member asking us if we needed anything. I thought this was very nice.

Room Tip: Room 505 is very nice and roomy.

Dear J. White,

Thank you so much for your amazing review of your time spent with us.
I am elated that you chose to spend such a special occasion at our hotel and it seems as though we certainly played a part in making your 50th wedding anniversary as special as you deserve it to be. Our staff always aim to be as accommodating as possible and we try to deliver those special little touches to ensure that all guests feel at ease in our hotel. I know that both Damjan and Franceska will be thrilled that you mentioned them by name in such a positive manner. If there was any inconvenience caused by the noise of the outside construction work, then I do apologise and I will certainly be taking your comments regarding the lighting and the slightly slow service on board. I am pleased that you chose to sample some of our food in our traditional pub. The fish and chips is always a fantastic option and breakfast in bed sounds like an ideal way to spend your last morning on what was otherwise an adventure packed few days.
We look forward to seeing you again in the future and hopefully we are your hotel of choice for many more anniversaries to come.

Kind regards,

Sol Yepes, General Manager

The hotel had absolutely amazing and helpful staff. Those looking for a smaller, more personal hotel should absolutely consider Sanctuary House. The pub was a great amenity and the location is unbeatable. Walking distance from Westminster Abbey, Big Ben, Parliament, and Trafalgar Square. The service was amazing and the help we received from the front desk truly made the trip.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. My room was actually large - king size bed, sofa, and coffee table with lots of space all around. It was very clean, the front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was above average. Location couldn't have been better - just a short walk from St.James station. I would definitely stay here again. Great value for London

The rooms are small, but completely updated. A/C is a bit confusing at first. Amenities are very good and thoughtful, lots of coffee, teas, and hot chocolate. Some rooms have housecoats, fridge and safe. Bottled water provided daily. At 6pm, amenities/towels top up. Staff responsive and helpful. After trapesing around all day, it was lovely to come back for a tea and biscuts in the room, shower and then slip downstairs to the Fullers Pie & Ale house for dinner. The "pies" are fabulous.. the best pastery EVER! Light flaky excellent. A terrific convenient location and worth the money. Thanks Francesca, happy travels, perhaps we will meet again.

Room Tip: It is noisey during the day, but the area becomes quiet later in evening. Spending extra money will...

The only reason the rating is not higher is due to some carelessness of the staff regarding "wake-up calls." We stayed here (2nd week of June, 2014) for five nights, and three of the mornings the staff failed to provide the wake-up calls we'd requested the night before. This did not result in our missing anything in particular (in terms of getting to sights early enough or to our plane our last morning out of Luton Airport), but still I think travelers should be able to rely on this service. In terms of room/bathroom, the Sanctuary House was fine. The breakfast was very good. And the location (in Westminster) was superb. Very close to the St. James Park tube stop.

Dear hotel guest,

Thank you for leaving your review. It saddens me to hear that you did not receive all of your wake up calls. I know how important wake up calls are to our guests and I sincerely apologise for this.
It is lovely to hear that despite this, you still enjoyed one of our hearty breakfasts everyday and travelled around London’s must see sites with ease from our convenient location.
We hope to see you again in the future.

My husband and I stayed here only one night, but we're very pleased. Clean, comfortable, updated and nice bathroom. The location was killer...right next to St. James underground station and a block from Westminster! Restaurant attached was good, and prices for London were decent. Highly recommend.

Needless to say, location is everything. Pop your head out the window and look left and you'll see St. James tube station. Look toward the right and you'll see Westminster Abbey. If you decide to take a stroll by Westminster Abbey, you'll see Big Ben. From Big Ben, you can see the London Eye. Who needs a map, right? I didn't even bother using one and instead just walked from landmark to landmark. The staff is friendly (they had a good laugh when I couldn't figure out the kettle) and the rooms are clean. Anyone who's been to the UK knows the food isn't that great overall (they prefer a blander palette) but the breakfast is okay. Having a pub downstairs is quite nice though and the small charm of the place makes up for the slightly stuffy hallways. The pillows aren't too fluffy so if you're more of a firm pillow kind of person, you'll be in hotel heaven.
