“Value for money in a great position”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2014

Had read all the previous reviews so was prepared for a small room and the expected level of city centre noise . Don't book if these bother you . However if like me cleanliness and a good price in a great location is what your looking for this is a very good hotel and I would return .

We really appreciate you taking the time to write a review and highlighting the strong points of the hotel. We offer a very clean, comfortable and reasonably priced hotel in an excellent location.
Of course we are in the city centre close to all major attraction and that can offer some challenges but this are far outweighed by the benefits as explained in your review.

This is the second time we spend nights at this little hotel. The rooms are small and the stairways are narrow but everything is clean and the beds are comfortable. Our room faced the backyard so it was very quiet and no disturbance at all from the traffic at the front of the hotel. This is an old building so you can hear people walking the stairs and shutting doors but that is normal and should not keep anyone awake.

The hotel is very clean and well kept despite the house being old and the staff is very friendly, helpful and polite. The main entrance remains locked so you must ring a doorbell every time you come. The staff at the lobby monitors closely everyone entering the hotel which gave us a sense of security.

London is one of the worlds most expensive cities to visit so getting a double room with WC/Shower for 85 GBP a night within minutes walk from Oxford Street is a really good deal. If you want a little more space and a lift to all floors then you're of course welcome to pay at least double that.

The only thing we miss from last time we were here is the breakfast basket and the small refrigerator, but we will definitely come again as this is very good for a few nights stay and the location is just perfect.

We really appreciate you taking the time to write a review and thank you very much for highlighting the positive things about the hotel.

As far the refrigerator is concerned, our feedback was that it is not being used much and is occupying space in the room. Hence we made the decision to remove them from the rooms.

Our guests were also requesting a lot more variety for the breakfast basket, which as a small hotel, we could not satisfy their demand. Therefore we have decided to offer room only rates with breakfast box as an optional extra. This box contains all the items that were in the basket.
Alternatively , we recommend them to a few cafes very close by which offer a very good selection of continental and english breakfast at very reasonable rates.

Thank you once again and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Location was really great, but that was all. Room was so small that normal size person can´t walk same time in the room, other passanger was sitting in the bed and then you could go...funny and goes 2 days, if trip would be longer we would change place. staff was friendly that is plus. wifi didn´t work at all and when I told that they wanted to sell me another, but why...if they say that they have free wifi, why I have to pay to get it work..? bed had seen better days and sleep was short. buses went near by and we had Oystercard so we really use it, so if you don´t care about other things and need good location, then this is it. I´m in London many times a year and next time hotel is not this.

Room Tip: if you go to this hotel, ask the room lower, our room was in the last floor up and climbing there wa...

Many thanks for your comments. We will revisit our wi-fi policy and make the
necessary changes.
We have tried hard to achieve a balance between space and the facilities that our customer
want in the room in the Central London Victorian buildings.
Our location and friendly services makes up for all that.

The location is undeniably fantastic. My partner and I wanted to be in the middle of things - that is exactly what we got! 5 mins to marble arch / tube. 5 mins to oxford road. I cannot fault it.

It's the other things that made our stay a little bit lack lustre -

1. We weren't allowed to hold I to our key. We had to return our key to the desk every time we left the building, which is slightly unsettling. However, the thing that makes it very unsettling is that every night we came in and said our room number... They would hand us the key without a second thought. Only once did we get asked our names.

2. The room had been smoked in - we are non smokers and the room stank of cigarettes. I asked the gentleman at the desk if we could move and got a "I will see what I can do" - nothing came from it.

3. Location of the room - we were situated next to the toilet. I paid £220 to not sleep and to listen to people slam the door, three nights in a row.

Now saying all this - I would stay there again simply on the basis of location. However, if you want a relaxing, sleep-filled stay, I would not recommend this hotel.

We appreciate you taking the time to give us your comments and please stay assured that we have made a note of them

You had booked a basic room but unfortunately all our basic rooms are next to either a shower or toilet. We were full and had no other room to offer to you. Next time please book an ensuite room which are much quieter.

As far as the keys are concerned, our experience show that the customers either lose the keys or come at different times and hence the decision to keep the keys at reception. It suits all of us.
Once we know our customers, we do not repeatedly ask them for their name.

We are a no smoking hotel and this is made very clear on check in. Yet a small minority of our guests ignore this and will smoke in the room. It is very difficult to control and or monitor this.

We look forward to seeing you again soon.

This hotel's location is so fantastic that it almost makes up for the lack of hot water in the shower. But just almost. We had one and a half short showers before the hot water was out, and then we were without for the rest of the weekend.

We slept fairly well in our top floor ensuite room. The beds were comfortable, but the room held quite a high temperature. There was a big fan installed in the room, and that helped a bit, but as we were here in March and the fan ran non-stop, I think it can get quite damp in these rooms during summer.

We were staying on the top floor (fourth, I believe), and it's not an easy task to maneuver large suitcases down the tiny staircase.

You get one key when you check in, and you have to leave this in the reception when you go out, and then ring a door bell when you return. This was not a problem for us.

Anyway, I think I might stay there again. You get what you pay for, and even though it's not a great hotel facility-wise, its location is superb and the prices friendly.

Many thanks for your comments and we regret that you did not inform us about the hot water.
We could have investigated the reasons for it as we have not received many complaints about the water pressure problem before.

As far as the keys are concerned, from our experience customers either lose their keys or come at different times and hence the decision to keep the keys at reception.
It works out good for all of us.

We have noted your other comments and look forward to seeing you again soon.

The hotel has a great location, close to Oxford Street and 5 min to the next tube station. The staff is nice and helpful. The hotel is clean, the rooms are perhaps a little small and the bed very soft.

Many thanks for your kind words.

We are a small hotel but we make every effort to make our guests feel happy and
comfortable. Our excellent location and friendly service adds to that.
We have taken note of the beds being soft and will make sure that next time we order firm
mattresses.
