“Convenient for those staying around Argyle Street”
Reviewed 7 May 2014 via mobile

Perhaps not a pub that has to be visited from, say, like the Victoria area, but for us, staying above the pub at the Hotel Wardonia, a very convenient place to have that last half of the night.

They serve food at very reasonable prices and have decent ales on tap and their terrace was very popular when we stayed in late April. That said, not once during our stay at the Wardonia did we hear any noise from the pub.

If you are staying nearby, do pop in for a pint. Even though it is actually more of a local, us tourists are offered as pleasant, cheery service as are offered to the locals.

We thoroughly enjoyed our night out even when in our case "out" meant only about 50 metres, a short crawl back to the Wardonia :D

“They have a cool bar cat”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

This was our neighborhood go-to pub while in London. Had a lot of character. We enjoyed most of the employees although the person who appeared to be the boss was a bit grumpy. The kitchen is closed for part of the day, so food isn't always available. The bar cat was a big hit.

“Good value and good pub food”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

A friendly neighbourhood pub tucked away on a small street a couple of blocks south of Kings Cross. Excellent kitchen for traditional English pub food, meat pies, fish etc. All reasonably priced for the city and the area. Decent selection of real ales alongside the usual suspect beers on draught.

People there love to chat. It is so friendly. Good bar food, really a bargain price. I had good lasagna, and the pot pies are excellent too.

“Great local pub & food”
Reviewed 27 December 2013

I visited McGlynn's Free House while staying near by at Hotel California & needed somewhere to eat & spend the evening. I stayed for a meal, ordered chili con carne ( the pub has a separate kitchen/cafe attached) this was tasty, although not "a la carte" it filled a hole!

Nice atmosphere, until a group of travellers poured in & started bare chest arm wrestling! (most amusing I have to say) however they soon left so calm was restored!
Off the beaten track, worth a visit, so much better than the chain pubs taking over London & the country!
