I recently needed to stay in London and wanted a good location and a bed! I booked a single room and was upgraded to a large room with a double and single bed! Tidy and great location.
Very functional hotel. Tired rooms, but basic and even has tea and coffee making facilities. Another option to a travel lodge. Great location too!

The hotel is located near Russell Square and this is the only good thing to say about it. The room was clean but the bath not so much. No shawer gel or shampoo, just a soup. "Breakfast included" at the web-site obviosly reffers to bread, butter, jam and cornflakes. That is. If you want traditional English breakfast you must pay 5 pounds. The service is far from hospitality.

We chose this hotel due to its location and price. Before arriving we were very sceptical after reading a lot of the previous reviews - especially about the staff. I have to say that apart from 1 man in the luggage room who was fairly grumpy, every other member of staff that we encountered was very nice and extra friendly. We were hoping for an early check in if possible as our flight had us arriving early morning and we were attending a show at 3pm so it would have been great to get into our rooms early in order to get ready. We had 3 rooms booked and they managed to give us access to 1 of them at 1pm.

The rooms are quite basic and dated and the bathrooms were incredibly small but for the amount of time we spent there, they were perfectly adequate. There was a strong smell of smoke when we entered one of the rooms and I suppose we could have contacted reception about this and asked to be moved but we just got on with it as we knew we wouldnt' be in the room very much.

The room was very hot but we just kept the window open and this solved the problem. Our friends in another room couldn't stick the heat so they rang reception after midnight and were offered a change of room (even at that time of night). They didn't really want to be going to such extremes so late at night so they asked if somebody could come up and turn off the heating for them and this was done within minutes.

The breakfast is fairly poor - if on continental, like us, it only includes juice, cereal and toast or rolls. The toast can barely be called toast - it was only very lightly toasted so very floppy and pale. The tea is premade from a machine so you dont get to choose how strong or weak you would like it. It kept us going though until we got out for a more substantial meal later in the morning.

The convenience of being on the Picadilly line and having direct service from Heathrow makes the location so appealing to us and you can walk to Covent Garden or Oxford street in 15 minutes or so, so I would definitely consider staying here again if I was to return to London.

It is definitely not nearly as bad as some people are making it out to be.

Dear Guest,

Many thanks for sharing your comments regarding your stay at our Royal National Hotel. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay, our staff were attentive and extra courteous and you appreciated our convenient location, only a five minute walk to Russell Square Station, on the Piccadilly Line. Equally, our hotel operates a non-smoking policy in all rooms and we were surprised to learn of your feedback regarding the smell. Our staff are on hand twenty-four hours a day and would have been able to move you to an alternative room, whilst we investi-gated the smell. All bookings made directly with the hotel include English breakfast, please check the terms and conditions directly with your booking agent, we apologise if you did not enjoy our continental breakfast on this occasion. All of our rooms can be manually controlled and adjusted by the thermostat, so we apologise if you found your room too warm. Please do not hesitate to contact us directly if you would like to discuss your stay with us further.

Assuring you of our best intentions at all times.

This hotel is the main base for Contiki, and I stayed here for the night before my tour started.
Good facilities, there is an Irish Pub that does meals, and a pizza restaurant on site, so a nice social atmosphere.
Rooms are dated but clean and tidy, and all you really need for a place to sleep, I didn't spend any time in my room really apart from sleeping.
Easy walk to Russell Square and the Piccadilly tube line, a great convenience store selling fruit/vege and takeaway food, and cafes nearby.
Check in was great - and the staff member who checked us in held onto our bags while we popped round to the Contiki Basement - great that they go the extra mile.

Just be aware - this is mainly a youth hotel, plenty of guests running around at all hours of the night, so if peace and quiet is your thing then don't stay here.

This is a great place to stay in Central London, located in between Russel Square and Tavistock Square. Your 5 minutes away from the British Museum, you are in Bloomsbury, 10 or 15 minutes from Oxford Street, Charing Cross road, and Soho - Theatre land.
The rooms are comfortable all ensuite the foyer can be very busy as it’s popular with school and tourists groups etc . It’s always cheap and cheerful and I like it as I do all the hotels in the chain.
