Our guide explained the history behind Stonehenge and Avebury. We didn't have to pull out pen and paper to take notes, though. Our guide's explanation was informative and funny simultaneously. Looking back at our pictures we still remember what our guide said. If you are looking for a tour that does more than show you pretty rocks, this is the tour for you.

I've read excellent reviews about this trip that has convinced us to get it as well. The pick up time and location was convenient for us since we were staying in kensington along cromwell road. Since it was a small group, it was easier to manage. Edward our archaeologist guide made Stonehenge come alive as he narrated with much passion and gusto. Stopping by Avebury was such a pleasant treat since it isnt in everybody's itinerary. Made us feel special going to an "unpopular" stone circle. The lunch at Bath albeit short was also pleasant. We enjoyed the trek to the English country side. Bucolic and quaint Avebury. Surreal stonehenge. Take home message: STONEHENGE isnt a HENGE!

Our guide is an actual archaeologist whose knowledge, expertise and passion for the area came through in every aspect of this tour! From the drive out of London to Salisbury and the sites (Woodhenge, Stonehenge, Bath and Avebury) we learned more about the prehistory of Britain than we expected. Edward not only explained Stonehenge but, by taking us to the surrounding associated sites, put them all in context that we know we would not have gotten on one of the big bus tours! This was not a simple photo op in front of big rocks! This was a college level education in all aspects of British prehistory! Edward made each site come alive and showed us the connections! Bath is a spectacular town with stunning architecture and a unique history that Edward enthusiastically shared with us. Tours From Antiquity is a must do for anyone who wants to go beyond the tourist level experience!

Our day trip to Stonehenge, Bath & Avebury was the highlight of our trip to London. Edward has an enthusiasm for archeology that is contagious and makes the "big rocks" tell a compelling story. His knowledge was limitless and shared in a fun and entertaining manner. We loved the architecture in Bath and the quaint town of Avebury. We ended up sitting in the back of the bus and could hear perfectly. Our seatmates were great fun and in the end we were glad to be those folks in the back of the bus! We highly recommend this tour!

This is not your typical, large group tour; lead by by professional archeologist, this small group tour (8-18 people) departs central London in a mini-bus with the first stop at Stonehenge, then moves on to Bath, Woodhenge, Silbury Hill, the West Kennent Long Barrow, and Avebury. Most of these historically significant sites are not included in the large bus tours since the country lanes are too small to accommodate the large buses. The stop in Bath for lunch and individual touring was a nice break during the day.

Our guide, Edward, was very personable, KNOWLEDGEABLE, with a passion to bring as much truth to these sites instead of the typical myths. As a working archeologist, his perspective on the history and culture of per-historic England was refreshing. This is certainly the best tour we have ever taken.

While this tour departs early, (which provides an early arrival at Stonehenge before the large bus tours arrive) allow at least 12 hours due to traffic and the distance covered. There is some walking required including a good hike up the hill to West Kennent Long Barrow. Our bus driver, John, was fantastic, no worries about our safety as he negotiated the heavy traffic and side roads with with ease and professional.
