“Good Value for What You Pay, Great Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

We stayed at the Bedford recently in May. The location in the heart of Bloomsbury was an ideal one from which to explore London, also very easy to access from Heathrow via the Piccadilly line. The hotel's public spaces are quite nice, including the restaurant and lobby and visitors lounge. There is also a very nice little garden in the back. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the hotel clean, and the hotel itself has an interesting history, having been the site of a WWI air attack. The rooms were simple but comfortable, clean and of an adequate size. The "Be Our Guest Offer" includes a free dinner on the first night of your stay. The Bedford is a good value for in its price category.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room overlooking the garden.

Stayed here at the end of May 2014. We had a nice room that was kept clean. One of the great things about this hotel is it's location. The British Museum is within walking distance and many major attractions of London are quick train or bus rides away (whose stations are very near by). Shops are very close by. One my first day there it was only a 5 minute walk to get to an EE store to get a sim card for my phone.

There are only 2 major negatives that stuck out to me. One was the wifi system, which requires you to go to the front desk to get a new code every 8 hours (you need to get a separate code for each device you want to connect). While annoying, this wouldn't be too bad but we found the wifi didn't work very well in our room and would constantly drop out. Fortunately, I had data through my sim card, but the experience would have been much less pleasant if I did not.

The other was the included breakfast in the morning. They serve a lot of different items, from sausage, ham, beans, scrambled eggs, etc. Unfortunately, none of it is terribly good. It's not so much disgusting as it is bland and tasteless. The beans may have been one of the better items, but even that wasn't terribly special.

Overall, I did like the hotel. The staff was very courteous and our room was always clean. Honestly, if you're coming to London as a tourist, you're probably spending most of the day outside anyways, so it's nice to come back to a nice cozy room and bed.

Room Tip: We got a room with 2 twin beds which was very nice. Our friends staying in a room with 1 queen size...

Had to find somewhere in central London at short notice: everything on "cheap hotels" sites was showing £250+ per night. Bedford was half that, including a very good buffet breakfast. Staff were first class (moving me from a room with a connecting door to another immediately). Room was not small, and recently refurbished. Free internet access. I asked for a street view, and it was noisy 11pm onwards (when the rubbish collectors come round) - but if you don't like that, ask for an inside view. There's a beautiful garden with water feature out the back. Location is great, close to Oxford circus, shopping, British Museum, and plenty of characterful restaurants down side streets. Recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for inside if you don;t want the street noise: if you like it (I do) go for street view.

Just back from a 1 night stay here while having fantastic opportunity to attend Royal Garden Party and was really happy with the location, facilities and value. Bar area outside is a real hidden gem, almost an oasis in all the hubub of the metropolis! Weather was amazing so everything was at its best, but happy to recommend a stay here.

Reception well run and efficient check-in /out.

Bedroom was nicely decorated and clean and quiet thankfully with our room facing the back of the hotel and not the main road.

Only had breakfast which was good quality although it was really busy and so teas and coffee were a bit slow.

Ate out at night at good Turkish restaurant just nearby.

The Bedford is definitely a good base from mainline stations of Kings Cross or St Pancras for seeing the sights and really enjoyed
our stay.

We've just returned from a 3 night stay, the location is great. Short access to tube and /or bus stops and only a short walk to west end, Oxford St etc. The hotel is clean but dated in the public areas although our room was quite modern, perfectly spacious enough and overlooked the garden. The housekeeping staff were pleasant and friendly as were the staff maintaining the garden areas. The reception staff were efficient and helpful. The breakfast area was a bit canteen like and the breakfast was the same choices everyday and the cutlery was sparse ( you had to use the same blunt knife for eating your bacon and spreading your toast!).
Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the back, the road at the front is extremely busy day and night!

We were very disappointed with our 4-night stay at the Bedford. Our room was on the top (6th) floor, street side. The room was very hot, though it wasn't particularly hot outside, and the only way to cool off was to keep the window open. The street was very noisy, however, and we had trouble sleeping. The toilet didn't flush consistently, and the hot water in the shower was impossible to regulate, fluctuating between scalding hot and cold.

On the positive side: the facility was clean, the staff was helpful, and the breakfast adequate. The free wi fi was fast and reliable.

We chose the Bedford because of its Bloomsbury location very near the Russell Square tube stop. We'll try another of the many hotels in this area on our next visit.

Room Tip: For a quiet room, ask for one that is not on the street side. Higher floors tend to be warmer and th...

Having stayed in a couple of different hotels in London I would recommend this one and have no hesitation to stay here again. The rooms are clean, comfortable and a good size, some of the others I have stayed in the past have been cramped but this was great. We stayed in a twin room at the rear of the building that overlooked the lovely garden area, so we had no road noise, which I expect could be very noisy and I think when it is warm you would need the windows open so a front facing room wouldn't be very comfortable. The room was serviced daily and all the staff very friendly.
The breakfast was 'adequate' but not the best I have seen! It didn't really cater for children, luckily I took some coco pops just in case! The toast was pre-cooked so tended to be cold, I personally prefer a toaster/toasting machine.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the rear of the hotel
