My wife and I recently stayed here in July and again in August. We had 10 days here initially after arriving in the UK. After touring around the UK we stayed again at the beginning of August for 3 nights. It is a terrific location with proximity to Gloucester Rd tube station, 3 minutes walk and close to Kensington Gardens for a stroll. The bed and bathroom are small but adequate. We ate breakfast in our room each day and sometimes had lunch. Cooking bacon set off the fire alarm so we did not attempt that again! It was adequate and reasonably comfortable but a terrific location. The pubs and restaurants close by were excellent. Can recommend but if you want 5 star this is not it.

Room Tip: Higher rooms are not easy if you have heavy bags as there is no lift.

We stayed in a 'standard triple studio' room with three single beds plus a small roll-in cot (all very comfortable), a mini-kitchen that worked well, and a mini bathroom with shower that worked well. We knew that the room would be small, it did feel clean and provided all of the necessities for our one week stay. Astons Apartments lets you stay on a residential street with red brick buildings and real London flavor, rather than at a big commercial hotel. There are more expensive hotels in this upscale area, if you want to pay for the fancy extras. We used the money that we saved to see more of London. The walk to the South Kensington Tube Station is short and the walk to the Gloucester Road Tube Station is even shorter. Both stations have many good cafes, restaurants, markets and bakeries nearby. We walked to the V&A museum, no problem. Great location and very nice staff. Wherever we go, we always ask to see the hotel room before we pay for it, as rooms may vary. Good experience for our family.

5 minute walk from Gloucester Road tube with restaurants, pubs and supermarkets. Small, dirty, and untidy 1 bed studio. Bed was among the worst I have ever tried to sleep in. Staff was friendly, but could not make up for all the flaws.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on higher floors. No elevator and difficult to move suitcase in tight staircases.

Positive things first: The hotel is located in fancy Kensington, just a 5-minute walk from Gloucester Road tube station. Supermarkets, Restaurants and Pubs are within walking distance. And Astons does have beautiful rooms...I have seen them through cracked doors while housekeeping was in them. Wifi is free at ok speed.

Now the negative things: I did not get one one of those beautiful rooms. I got to stay in the basement broom-closet. Room #18 is tiny, is in dire need of refurbishment, and has a bathroom that is a plastic pod the size of an airplane lavatory. I was going to complain, but let's face it...when I am London, I spend very little time at the hotel. So I put up with it.

Anyway...if you decide to stay at Astons, ask to see the room before you hand them your credit card. And if they want to put you in #18, grab your card and run.

Room Tip: Don't let them put you in room #18!!!

Agree with others about small size of room but this is London and unless you are prepared to pay big bucks, this is what you will get. Pay more, get more. This hotel is good for its location: easy to get to public transport, restaurants, shops, etc. We had room 47 which was quiet. It overlooked a garden which was nice. The curtains did not block out much and I needed eyeshades to avoid waking at 4 am. “Kitchen” was reasonably well equipped although it is basically in a cupboard. We made our own breakfasts and one simple dinner. There is not much space for elaborate cooking.

Our only criticism would be in relation to booking a taxi for our departure. We expected a regular London cab, but think a local minicab was booked. He charged a flat fare of £23 to take us to Victoria station. As we had only paid £15 including tip (from Kings Cross), we felt that this was a rip off. Also it took over 30 mins to arrive when we had been told 10-15 minutes. I recommend walking 200 m to the nearby Old Brompton Road and hailing a (London) cab.

Room Tip: Choose a room not overlooking the street if you want quiet.

A single room as Astons Apartments for 3 nights was perfect. The room was tiny but clean and I had French Doors leading to a balcony overlooking the street. A little far to walk to the major attractions but the tube station is nearby. The bed was comfortable and I appreciated the tea kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge. There is a nice pub with a delicious Steak and Ale Pie across the street from the tube station. Everything you need in a small bundle at a great price.

Room Tip: The single room is tiny. If you are claustrophobic, go for the double.

I loved having somewhere to stay for an affordable price for just one that also included a little fridge, microwave & sink. As usual the space is tiny but that's the way it is in London. It's weird being a grown man and sleeping in a single bed but they were big enough- not children's beds. I stayed for a week and it became my home away from home. I would definitely come back here again and wanted to after my European trip but they were already booked out solid months ago for single rooms for the month of July. Book early.
